McALLEN, Texas — Finally, Royce White will answer the questions on a basketball court.
The Rockets rookie hopes to make his season debut with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League tonight against the Maine Red Claws (8:30 ET).
The 6-foot-8 power forward, who was the 16th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, had twice previously rejected assignments to the D-League as he demanded a “protocol” to deal his anxiety disorder, which makes traveling — especially air travel — difficult.
White opened the season on the Rockets roster, but did not play and left the team in early November. With a nose for crashing the boards and knack for passing, he would seem to be a perfect complement to the NBA’s fastest-paced offense.
White passed a physical by the Rockets over the weekend, arrived in the Rio Grande Valley on Sunday and met with Vipers team president Bert Garcia on Monday. Coach Nick Nurse will make the final determination at a pregame workout, but White is expected to be in the lineup.

Good to see that he’s slowly making it back. The way the situation has been handled was very poor though. I understand that he suffers from anxiety, but its come to a point where I’m now thinking he just needs to man up. Millions of kids out there would kill to be in his position, to have the talent to be an NBA player. If he throws it away he’s a fool

He does have a great opportunity in front of him, but only someone with an anxiety disorder would understand what it is like to have one. Having said that I think people are being a little harsh one the guy. I’m sure he’s worked hard to get out on the floor.
I applaud his fight to be recognized as someone with a medical issue and the rockets seem high enough on him to work things through, to their credit. I really just hope he shows up in shape and ready to go from day one because I fear people will have little patience with Royce.

About time, hopefully he plays well and his condition is better.
This guy has serious potential to dominate in the NBA. Im really glad hes feeling better and ready to play.
