Mavs don antlers for Rangers

The baseball fever gripping Dallas-Fort Worth isn’t lost on the area hoopsters. The Mavericks taped the above message to show their support for the Texas Rangers, who are currently tied 1-1 in the ALCS with the Yankees. Game 3 is Monday night (8 p.m. ET, TBS) in New York, with Texas sending out ace Cliff Lee to the mound.

Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, Caron Butler and Co. shout in unison, “Go Rangers!” The Mavs also sport “antlers” — a Rangers hand sign for someone making a hustle play. The “claw” and “antlers” are big in North Texas these days.

Just a few months ago, Mark Cuban fanned on his attempt to buy the Rangers in bankruptcy court. But that hasn’t stopped the Mavs owner from backing the club at every turn. Cuban said any time an area team does well, it’s good for everyone around. Asked recently if the Rangers could compete for World Series title, he didn’t hesitate.

“Hell yeah, with pitching like that,” he said. “Yes they can. Absolutely.”

Maybe the Mavs will consider taping an inspirational message for the Cowboys…
