All-Star starters announced tonight on TNT

HANG TIME BIG CITY — The polls are officially closed, and now it’s just a matter of time before we find out if Kobe Bryant will go out on top.

The 2016 NBA All-Star Game starters will be announced tonight, live on TNT at 7 p.m. ET. In this his final NBA season, Bryant has led the NBA in All-Star voting since initial totals were announced, with 1,533,432 overall votes in the latest returns. Bryant has maintained a consistent lead over last year’s leading vote-getter and MVP, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, and has already surpassed Curry’s league-leading total of 1,513,324 votes from last season.

NBA All-Star 2016Curry (1,206,467) was second overall in the most recent voting returns, and was joined in the potential Western Conference starting five by his Warriors teammate Draymond Green (499,947), who was clinging to a slim lead over San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard (487,626) in the last update. The Warriors, of course, have put together a historic first half of the season, with a 39-4 record through today, while Leonard’s Spurs are right behind them at 36-6.

Another contest worth watching is in the Eastern Conference backcourt. While Miami’s Dwyane Wade (736,732) seems to have a starting spot secured, in the most recent updates his probable backcourt mate was Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving, who had 399,757 votes. Just behind Irving was Toronto’s Kyle Lowry, with 367,472 votes. Last season Lowry overcame a similar deficit in the final days to vault into the starting line-up. With the 2016 All-Star game in Toronto, it will be interesting to see if Raptors fans across Canada were able to marshall sufficient support for Lowry as the clock ticked down.

In the Eastern Conference frontcourt, while LeBron James and Paul George appear to have starting sports secured, the third position may still be up in the air. In the most recent voting returns, New York’s Carmelo Anthony (368,336) passed Detroit’s Andre Drummond (361,307) and was holding a slim lead for the final starting nod.

The starting lineups will be revealed during a special one-hour edition of “NBA Tipoff presented by Autotrader” featuring Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith. The special will air prior to TNT’s exclusive doubleheader featuring the Clippers at the Cavaliers (8 p.m. ET) and the Spurs at the Suns (10:30 p.m. ET).

NBA All-Star 2016 in Toronto will bring together some of the most talented and passionate players in the league’s history for a global celebration of the game. Along with the NBA All-Star Game, the Air Canada Centre will also host the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, Feb. 12 and State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Saturday, Feb. 13. Other events at NBA All-Star 2016 include the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and the NBA Development League All-Star Game presented by Kumho Tire.

I can’t believe how much of a popularity contest this is. So sad Cousins does not get exposure. If more games were on national TV, he would have way more votes. People around the country should see what this guy is doing on a game to game basis. He is playing some of the best ball in his career right now. He has had over 30 pts in 7 of last 9 games and is the only player in the league avging over 30 this month. He is totally containing himself, not whining nearly as much, is moving the ball very well out of double teams, can shoot from outside and punishes people down low nightly. Coaches better vote him in. It is a complete joke that Pachulia got more votes than him, LOL!!!

  2. John Lewis says:

Draymond Green is great, but Anthony Davis is better and should be starting. Green doesn’t score quite enough in my opinion.

  3. axgx23 says:

All Star Night is all about the fans…so whoever on the court the fans voted

So ya’ll can stop complaining bout this dude dont deserve it and other dude does

Whoever plays ‘deserve’ it coz they got voted,,if the fans voted white mamba to play by god he will

thats just how the system works

So quit whining and just enjoy it

  4. njegos says:

nikola vucevic must play on all-star , at least as a reserve! he play really good for 2,3 years and it would be fair to play with best becouse he is one of them! montenegro is with you Nik !

  5. Giorgi says:

    DMN!!! WHERE IS ZAZA PACHULIA?!

  6. Natia Kutchukhidze says:

Zaza Pachulia deservers to be a port of the ALL STAR game. This seasen he show his real ability. what a terrific performance from Zaza

  7. lothario says:

Kobe Bryant received his votes because the voters want him to gun the ball every chance he gets. Kobe has the chance to rewrite the all star record books. Imagine if Kobe won the MVP of the all star game after scoring 81 points. This will be the greatest all star game of all time because Kobe will have the chance to prove he is better than Curry or LeBron. Kobe has done more for the NBA than any active player playing today. He should not only play but he should start as well. Everyone knows that the fix was in. Kobe didn’t get all of those votes. Nonetheless, I can’t wait to see him shoot the ball every time he gets it.

  8. Adnan says:

Like what is the matter with you people!!!!!! Drummond should definitely be starting and so does Jimmy! Really!? Melo and Kyrie?! What is going on!?

  9. Joshua luganis says:

Hope Karl anthony to be selected to the all star game

  10. Dave says:

I have no clue why ZAZA is even up this high in the votes. Demarcus cousins is clearly the best center in the WEST if not the NBA. ZAZA is no more than a mediocre player.

  11. Bob says:

THE GREEK FREAK GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO MUST BE AN ALL-STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Drift Gangsta says:

The King’s dominance with the ball will be once again witnessed by the non-believers.
He will be three-and-half steps ahead of everybody.
This will be another showcase of his talents and will make
the other all-stars regret not to join his team.

I will most definitely buy His shoes and I recommend that everybody do the same!

  13. Eric says:

Cousins is the best centre by a long ways. Drummond is like Jordan and can’t hit a free throw. What did he miss yesterday? 22? Gasol averages 17 pts and 8 boards. Cousins 26 and 11. Defensive ratings are nearly identical. Next best front court player out west is Davis followed by Green or Leonard.

  14. Bill says:

If Kawhi isn’t a starter, then Charles Barkley is right and us fans are idiots.

  15. Lloyd G says:

So..It appears that the All Star selections will all be black players. Wonder if Jada Pinkett Smith will be boycotting the game? I wonder if I should boycott the game?

  16. blebleh says:

    TD, sorry but you’re wrong.
What you describe is true for the ALL NBA-TEAM(S)
The All STAR Game is, as its name states, there to show off the most popular, celebrity-like players – therefore voted by fans, influenced by media. It actually makes perfect sense

  17. Truth says:

Isaiah Thomas of the Celtics was right when he lamented that it’s a popularity contest and not one of skill, example Kobe voted in even though stats not enviable

    • lebron says:

tell me something i don’t ready know…and your point is? if the allstar game really tells you who’s the greatest when they win that game, then it shouldnt be played like a joke.

    • Daniel says:

Serious!!!, though I may not be Kobe Bryant biggest fan, he is an NBA legend who cares of what his season stats look like he deserves more than anyone in the league to play this All Star game which will be the last one in his career.

  18. laulau says:

    pachuliaaa must play in NBA-allstar

  19. laulaj says:

PACHULIA MUST PLAY IN ALL-STAR!!! HOPE THAT THE VOTES ARE NOT FALSIFIED

  20. Rlc says:

Hope Jimmy Butler be part of the game… he is a great player

  21. KELZBEBALLIN says:

How is D Wade and Kyrie even in the conversation to begin with. Neither of them barely play

    • drucar says:

Check your facts. Wade plays more than other players of the same age. Hes one of the best veterans in the league and deserves the recognition. Look at his season stats. Even if he does play limited minutes he takes advantage of every single second on the court.

  22. David roman says:

Kyle Lowry must be a starter !

  23. alexander says:

what a joke of an ego booster for some players.

  24. Rob says:

After the first returns came in and I saw how ridiculous it was I stopped voting. I wasn’t interested in having anything to do with the farce.

  25. TR says:

    @ osyres

A player shouldn’t be able to shoot 34.5% from the field and 25% from three point range and be an all-star with numerous better and more deserving players around, but of course a certain Mr Popular gets voted in anyway.

  26. John CEna says:

well… reggie jacksons stats are better than lowry yet hell be lucky to crack top 50 in voting, drummond having a historic season on boards and alley oops so… pistons are the real deal and they will be in the all star game for a while now……….

    • NateH says:

You clearly know nothing. KLow has better numbers than RJackson. Get your facts right before you start commenting. Also the Raptors are the 2nd best team in the East and are one of few teams top 10 in both Off and Def.
Your right about AndreDrummond but your talking pure nonsense about RJackson being better than KLow.

  27. Jey says:

Kyle Lowry must be a starter. Kyrie Irving didn’t even play much games and not scoring much either. Lowry & DeRozan must be starters!

  28. Jacob says:

It’s a who do you want to see play the most type Game. I mean I myself want to see the best the NBA has to offer. That is what the NBA all-star game is all about. I look at it sort of like watching the globetrotters but wayyy better!!🙂

In the east I voted for Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Butler, Lebron James, Paul George & Pau Gasol.

In the west I voted for Stephen Curry, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant & Marc Gasol.

  29. osyres says:

Why is Drummond a allstar ? lopez = better center than him. U can t shoot 37 % ft and be a allstar no way. there are a player called whiteside who is more allstar like drummond.

    • Pete says:

Lopez is not better than Drummond.

All Lopez can do is score. He’s been a garbage rebounder his entire life and is too slow to defend anything that moves.

  30. G-Ram says:

Seriously!? Irving has only been playing for a few months!!! And Drummond should absolutely be a starter this year. I understand the poetry behind the Kobe vote, but this very well might be Tim Duncan’s last year too (especially if they win) so why not make him a starter? TImmy’s just not making a media spectacle of the whole thing… #lettheplayersandcoachesdecide

  31. Doug Gilmore says:

I say if golden state is that good put all of them against the best from the east. Then little boy curry and big mouth green would keep there mouths closed. When they lose by a lot then we can laugh at them. Curry you are not the best LEBRON JAMES is. .

    • Darren says:

Doug Glimore, do you actually watch the NBA? Do you watch NBA games? I’m being serious. No one doubts that Lebron is a beast of a player. But your comment sounds a little more like bitterness than true to the facts. The Warriors just dismantled arguably the two best teams in the East by more than 60 points in that past two games, I do think that it is possible that the Warriors as a team could beat the East All-Stars. This is not a stretch to think this…and why disrespect Curry and Green when the rest of the players in the NBA respect their game?

    • Rain says:

Actually I think an all GSW All-Star team would be better than the one they’re about to announce, sounds a bit funny. but if you think about it… They’d be like a well oiled machine against against a team that has never played together

  32. dante says:

lebron should go because he is the best in the east

  33. Luis says:

This is a popularity contest. People shouldn’t take this seriously.

  34. tonichi says:

Let the coaches and players and all you non-fan voters, vote DRUMMOND and KAWHI and KLAY and IGOUDLA AND BOGUT AND HARRISON BARNES (the Warriors deserve at least 5 players (IF ATLANTA had four last year and Detroit when they won the ring had four that year WHY NOT THE WARRIORS NOW?) into the All-Star second team.

  35. Mohamed says:

I voted for kobe because its his last year

  36. cobra says:

so many stupid people. maybe next year the coaches players can vote fans don’t watch how there play in the season its about. there only look at the names

  37. Tarajayne says:

Totally cousins is the best center in the nba

  38. Mek says:

This is absolutely ridiculous. What happened to taking the vote leaders of every position to start. I don’t understand how for the west you have three guards a small forward and a power forward. The east you have two guards and three small fowards. There are no centers in this years starters. Drummond deserved to start way more than Anthony. This is terrible.

    • Eddie says:

      Na Melo all day.

    • Blake says:

Drummond is good but all he does for 40 minutes is stand in the lane he should be averaging 15 boards a game. Deandre Jordan averaged 15 rebounds last year that doesn’t make u a all star. Carmelo is playing great all around basketball both ends of the floor but the stigma of him being a ball hog and playing no defense is sticking with people who haven’t watched him play consistently this season. And he coming off a knee injury but since he not scoring 30 again people don’t care. The Knicks are on the edge of the playoffs and if they win 45-50 games this season he should be in the running for mvp.

      • Daniel says:

Drummond does average 15 boards a game. And Melo has been nowhere near MVP status nor should he even be in that conversation. Drummond has made much more of an impact on his teams “success” or wins than Melo has.

  39. Kyle kato says:

Cousins deserves to be a starter…. having the kings at the 8th best record in the west has to account for something.

    • Drew says:

The disrespect Cousins gets as a player baffles me. And I’m not a big fan of him to be honest.

      • Peter says:

Agreed – he has been the bet big in the NBA for something like 3 years running now. He should be a no brainer as a starter in the West.

Draymond Green is good and I’m glad he’s getting recognition, but this is one year of great numbers – Cousins has been putting up elite numbers (up there with the greatest centers of all time) for the past 2-3 seasons and hasn’t had a single start.

        Rediculous.

  40. Albert Ware Jr. says:

Fans show appreciation of Kobe’s greatness…nothing wrong with at all…

    • Mohamed says:

I voted for kobe because its his last year

      • TD says:

That’s the problem with fans voting. Too many people vote for the wrong players for the wrong reasons. The All-Star game is supposed to be about the best players in the league of the current season all playing in one game not the usual “It’s who the fans want to see” and “It’s for the fans” excuses .
