Reports: Odom to move to L.A., start physical therapy, walking

The next steps in Lamar Odom’s recovery are literally taking his next steps.

The former NBA forward has made enough progress at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas to begin physical therapy, which includes trying to walk, according to a report by Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.

Odom has not experienced any setbacks after breathing without the help of a ventilator in the past three days. He showing marked improvement with his breathing, vision and the ability to have simple conversations, sources said.

Odom is slated to begin physical therapy that will show whether the 35-year-old former basketball player can walk, said sources familiar with Odom’s progression. But it remains unclear how well he can navigate that challenge.

Odom has experienced frequent fatigue and has received constant treatment on his lungs and kidneys, sources said. Odom could also have serious brain damage considering a 911 call released last Wednesday reported Odom took cocaine and 10 doses of a sexual performance enhancer over three days.

In addition, E! News is reporting that Odom is now well enough to be transferred to a Los Angeles area hospital to continue his recovery.

E! News has learned that the former NBA star, who has been getting care from doctors at Sunrise Hospital in Nevada for nearly a week now, will be transferred to a Los Angeles hospital to continue his recovery in southern California.

We’re told Odom is expected to leave the hospital in the next day and a half, pending his condition remaining stable. They are in the early stages of working out the logistics of how they may transport him back to L.A. As we previously reported, Lamar’s stature prohibited him from being able to airlifted in a helicopter, so privately chartering a medical flight is one of several options that is being considered at this time.
