Report: Metta World Peace working out with Lakers, closing in on deal

VIDEO: Is Metta World Peace nearing a Lakers reunion?

Oh yes, Metta World Peace might soon be back in the NBA. Looks like all those post-ups and pasta dinners in Italy were worth it for the former Ron Artest. It might even mark Year One of his five-year plan to retire.

Here’s more from Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, who first broke the news:

Free agent Metta World Peace has begun to work out daily at the Los Angeles Lakers’ practice facility, inching closer to a return to the franchise on a one-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

World Peace, 35, started participating in informal workouts with Lakers players this week at the team’s facility in El Segundo, Calif., and is expected to continue through the start of Lakers training camp later this month, league sources said. No deal has been agreed upon, but there’s an increasing expectation that will happen this month, league sources said.

World Peace had been in the Lakers’ practice facility earlier this summer, too, working against 2014 first-round pick Julius Randle, sources said.

World Peace has been out of the NBA since the New York Knicks waived him during the 2013-14 season. He played last season in China and Italy. Lakers officials are growing in the belief that World Peace, formerly Ron Artest, has evolved into a mature veteran who can impact a young roster with his toughness and resolve, league sources said.

wow…lakers are really desperate to get back some respectability as a franchise….clippers have officially taken over as the city top team….never thought I would see the day….what goes up must come down

Big move lakers need some type of toughness and dirty play someone who won’t back down get those young guys mind right Metta might have to punch a couple of of down but he is a champion he know what it takes and he is all about defense something the lakers DO NOT HAVE AT ALL WHATSOEVER

All of you are missing the point! They might bring him back as a role model for Randel. Metta could still give 10- 15 good minutes while resting the other players. Obviously, they won´t win, but they are rebuilding.

Metta is well past his best now. He’ll be very close to turning 36 when the season starts. It’s the same as Charles Barkley said about Roy Hibbert – “He won’t hep dem. He won’t hep dem”.

The Fakers are so dysfunctional. Enough said.

Not gonna make a difference in my opinion. LAL is not making playoffs for a 3rd consecutive year. NOPE. Can’t see it happen as long as western conference remains a battle

He’s already old to do what he did before. They have let go all their core players and Kobe is coming back from injury they don’t have a back up all star caliber. Only Clarkson is the legit player they have unless their rookies would step up. Lakers dynasty is finished Still Golden State would be the winner in the west.
