SAN FRANCISCO — The Denver Nuggets will hire former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Malone as their next coach, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Malone was fired by the Kings 24 games into the 2014-15 season, just months into his second season on the job. He takes over a Nuggets team that suffered through a tumultuous 30-52 season that included the firing of head coach Brian Shaw in March.

Melvin Hunt replaced Shaw as the interim coach for the remainder of the season and was a strong candidate to replace him, before Malone entered the mix and won over Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly and president Josh Kroenke.

Malone, a longtime assistant before ascending to the top job in Sacramento, has a history with helping reshape the culture of organizations. He was an assistant with the Golden State Warriors from 2011-13 and Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005-10, having a hand in the development of the players and systems of the teams currently battling it out for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Sometimes I feel like they just keep recycling the same coaches around and around. I want to see Scotty Brooks somewhere. lol

Didn’t the Nuggets want to get back to run and gun? Malone arent exactly a great hire for that style.
