Analytics Art: Playoff Point Differentials

Here’s a look at the average point differentials for each round of the playoffs compared to the regular season.

During the regular season, the average differential for all games was 10.9 points. In the first round of the playoffs we saw an abundance of close calls and buzzer-beaters as the 16 teams fought to stay on the bracket.

Wins became a bit more defined in the conference semifinals, and the conference finals have been all about domination with an average differential of 14.4 points.
