HANG TIME NEW JERSEY — Spurs-Mavericks is the enjoy-it-while-it-lasts series. For the sixth time in their Hall-of-Fame careers, Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki will face off in the playoffs. They’ve been representing the same teams for 17 and 16 years respectively.

The Spurs have won four of the five previous meetings and are the favorites to advance again this year. San Antonio registered the league’s best record, was the only team to rank in the top six in both offensive and defensive efficiency, and swept the season series, 4-0.

Here are some statistical nuggets regarding the No. 1 and 8 seeds in the Western Conference, as well as the four regular-season games they played against each other.

How did Duncan beat the Mas 4 of 5 in their play-off meetings?didn’t the Mavs beat them in 2006&2009?

  2. SoCoooooool says:

I was one of the few that put their money on the Mavs in 2011, but now I have to say there is just absolutely no chance the mavs can win against the Spurs, let alone make another run for the championship.
They have a horrible defense, they cant stop anybody. Green will absolutely kill them from 3-point-land.

If they could trade Dalembert for Tyson Chandler next season and play more Zone-Defense, you could maybe hope for another run.

  3. pete says:

the key for the mavs are devin harris and jae crowder..
I still believe that the mavs have a legitimate chance to bother and upset this years spurs team…

  4. DJSurprise says:

Your both dreaming wouldn’t be surprised if heat dont make finals this year as they are looking tiered and pacers wile not playing at their best will be a tough match up; if the heat or lebrone have an off night thats it game over. Spurs vs OKC maybe OKC can win that series, they have before with a much softer and less experienced team. But KD dont have the killer to beat the heat or the pacers in the final. Clippers and Golden State and Huston will have a chance to mix it up as well since wile they dont have champion experience they do have a tone of all stars and top players and some very very god coaches.

  5. patrickmarc says:

It will not be so easy for Spurs

  6. jdub455 says:

I love dirk, but the spurs are just too smart and deep for the mavs… the defensive rotation of the mavs will not be as fast as the ball movement of the spurs which will be their downfall. They can hold their own offensively coz the pick and roll bet ellis and dirk is one of the toughest to check in the nba. But that’s all there is. Calderon will have his hands full in this one, trying to create for his teammates and read the D, plus of course, keepin up w/ TP3 which is needless to say, a hands full already,,, hoping that this wud reach game 6 to tire the spurs a little bit… coz I’m a heat fan, and I believe this spurs team is the only team with the solid chance to beat the champs in a 7 game series… go mavs! Lol!

  7. okc2014 says:

This will be the most boring series in the first round. I’ll tune in for the last 2 minutes to see the Spurs rap it up in 4 games. With no problem. The Spurs will win straight thru. Until they get to the Western Conference Finals. Go OKC!

    • OKC HUH says:

You should be thankful that mavs didnt beat the griz. If mavs win vs the griz, Mavs can beat the hell out of OKC in just 4-5 games. Go OKC ur mom.
