MVP Ladder: Masked LeBron Still The 1!

VIDEO: The man in the mask, LeBron James, resembles the superstar who worked 52 games this season without the mask

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS — Mask or not, LeBron James is ready for a three-peat run with the Miami Heat. If we’ve learned anything about the reigning two-time NBA and Finals MVP over the past few seasons, it’s that when he’s ready to take his game to the next level it’s hard for anyone to match him.

James has lifted the Heat back up the past month and put them right back into position as the best team in the league, the records say otherwise but we all know the Heat would be favored against anyone in a best-of-7 series if we started the postseason right now. James also holds on to the top spot in the KIA Race to the MVP Ladder this week, his jaw-dropping work all month punctuated by a wicked performance in the mask Thursday night against the New York Knicks on TNT.

Shaquille O’Neal (in 2003) and Wilt Chamberlain (in 1966) are the only players to put together a month worth of work like LeBron has produced for the Heat (30 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and shooting better than 57 percent for a calendar month), winners of six straight games. That’s elite historical company by any measure.

Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Paul George and Steph Curry round out the top five of the Ladder this week with Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves joining the party at No. 9.

Dive in here for more on who made the cut on this week’s KIA Race To The MVP Ladder!

I watched LBJ as a kid on the court in a building or on the playground. This young man has always showed a competitive attitude and once he makes his mind up to do something it’s like he wills it to be done. That’s the sign of a champion along with making sure his teammates share in the process of winning. There is nothing anyone could say about Labron James to make me thank bad of him. Labron if you read this, keep on being the man that God created you to be. Look up the history of the North Akron Black Hawks and you will see that you have the spirit of the Black Hawks surrounding you. Never fearing anything but your mother or God.

Where’s the love for Blake Griffin? He is exciting as LeBron. He scores with ease just as KD. He is the reason that the Clippers didn’t falter when Chris Paul was out. He doesn’t get enough love.

still lebron james is the best!!!

  4. LBJ has to be MVP this year, u guys r just jealous that he won MVP last year

  5. LBJ has to be MVP this year u guys r just jealous tht he was MVP last year

you have got to be kidding KD did better than that in the month of Jan. with better numbers than LBJ for Feb. This tells me that no matter what any player does the basketball media will still say no one has done what LBJ has done for his team. With this attitude it almost make the MVP a laughable title and not worth having. I don’t see why they just don’t put LBJ name on it at the beginning so the other players want kill themselves trying to earn it when it just going to go to LBJ.

    • ?????? says:

the list changes based on who’s performing the best at the moment. so lebron being #1 now doesn’t mean he’s #1 for the season or that he deserves the award. with that in mind, KD doesn’t have better numbers than lebron in Feb.

      KD: 33 ppg, 8 rpg, 7 apg, 1.3 spg, 50 FG%, 33 3FG%, 5 TO
      LBJ: 31 ppg, 8rpg, 7 apg, 2.7 spg, 58 FG%, 36 3FG%, 4 TO

They have been fairly even statistically, with lebron being a tad more efficient. Also, Lebron has finally decided to focus and play some defense. Overall I think he had a better February than KD, though I agree it did not match KD’s January.

  7. Miami fan says:

Before the last few games I had KD the leader as the league MVP. Lebrun has step on the gas pedal as of late. If both players continue to play the right now then Lebrun will take it. But if KD goes back to the way he was playing before all star break then he deserves it. I think he loose points because he is still trying to figure out how to play with Westbrook coming back. Tuff decision down the stretch and both superstar deserves it.

  8. Fefe (Nets) says:

    KD will be the MVP!!!
If he isn’t this year, it’s a robbery!!! KD has been superior since opening day till around the end of February!
LBJ has had the “upper-hand” for several days but for 2/3 or the season it has been KD all day!
And I think that OKC will finish with a better record (in the tough west)!
LBJ is great & the better basketball player, but KD will win the MVP this year like he SHOULD!

  9. BlowOUT!!!!! says:

If you have to choose a player between those 2 for your team, would you go for Kevin Durant? Be honest!
Lebron James is the Must Valuable Player PERIOD! KD is the best shouter THAT’s ALL!
KD can not carry a team on his shoulders. Do you remember Miami vs Boston last season? come on guys!

  10. TheAll-Star136 says:

    2010-2019 will be LeBron’s and Durant’s decade.

This season, the MVP should go to the LeBron if the Heat can maintain a better record than the Thunder.

  11. KDfan says:

Alas Sekou the LBJ Kool-aid drinker won’t let go. He’s already artificially set LBJ as the bar to beat for the MVP race. What you don’t understand Sekou is that as ambitious as KD is to be the number one, his eyes and mind (along with the Thunder organization and fans) are set on winning a championship this year. No focus on MVP’s (Masked Valuable Player). Again as I’ve said before, LBJ is a great player but has been severely overhyped by the media even before his inception into the NBA. And now a word to the NBA fans: Most of the persons who vote for the MVP award are the media and they have already secured it for LBJ this year. So if you are an LJB fan go ahead and rejoice already, if not just enjoy the beautiful game of basketball.

    • krishawn-MIA says:

Really?! Lebron has exceeded any hype that surrounded him, now I will agree that sekous is really infatuated with Lebron and KD is still the MVP thus altho as of late Lebron has made it a race but someone elses love for a player shudnt be the reason to discredit that individual…

      • Pakyaw says:

I would say, if both of them keep up their stats the way it’s now till end of reg season, then it’s a tie.. To break the tie , go for the winning record…

      • okckd35 says:

Only problem with a tie is the heat play in the much much weaker eastern conference. How is this never talen into account? Miami always has one of the easiest schedules in the nba.

    • kek says:

youre a moron, if you mean lebron is overhyped? He got the media etention at an early age because he was the most talented kid ever to play high school basketball, and he was has been the best player in the world since his 4th year in the league. And he gets better and better every year, Isnt that what an MVP should be? the best player? Lebron is just better than youre boy KD, KD is playing amazing basketball, lebron is just playing better this month, it will be an close MVP race.
