MVP Ladder: A Little Love For Blake!

VIDEO: The Clippers’ Blake Griffin is one just four players in the league averaging 20 and 10 this season

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS — A grand total of four players, just four, can boast of averaging 21 or more points and 10 or more rebounds a night this season in the NBA. The Los Angeles Clippers’ Blake Griffin is one of them, along with Kevin Love, DeMarcus Cousins and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Three of the four are firmly entrenched on the KIA Race to the MVP Ladder this week, Griffin joins the party this week at No. 8, and some folks would argue that Cousins should be included in that mix as well (if he keeps up his current level of play he might gain entry in the coming weeks).

Griffin’s ascent this season, however, has come with the added pleasure of watching one of the league’s true highlight players add some substance to all of that style. This is a tougher, feistier and much more rugged version of the dunk machine we’ve all watched the past few years.

“It’s really cool to be on his team these two years and watch the growth he’s made,” Clippers guard Jamal Crawford told the Los Angeles Daily News. Griffin will only continue to get better under the tutelage of Clippers coach Doc Rivers, whose ability to get the best out of his players is well-known.

Griffin’s task is even more complicated right now with fellow captain, All-Star and MVP candidate Chris Paul sidelined for six weeks with a separated shoulder. But Griffin seems more than up to the task, having increased his production (16 assists in the three games Paul has been out) in certain areas while maintaining his steady flow everywhere else.

And the best part, he hasn’t had to sacrifice his penchant for making highlights — as Kris Humphries can attest — in the meantime.

Dive in here for more on Griffin and a shake up involving Kevin Durant and LeBron James at the top of this week’s KIA Race To The MVP Ladder!

But in this yrs all star, Kevin Love should start! just sayin =)

  2. same same guy - total loss of credibility says:

    4 times lol – it’s been 6 years – and it exists since 95 so 19 years

  3. LBJ looks like he's turning 47 says:

Stop hating on Lowry, he has done an amazing job leading the raptors to top the atlantic division and to the #4 seed in the East. They only made the playoffs once in their 16 year existence. MVP means who brings and leads his team the furthest, and given the limitations of the raptors, I would still leave him there. While I agree you cannot compare him to LBJ or Durant, if the raptors keep on surprising thanks to him (like a deep playoff run), he should be in the discussion. Not sure about Griffin though, he can only dunk. Can he do anything else? not sure.

    • same guy says:

Raptors actually made actually made it 3 times to the playoffs. But it’s been 12 years since!

ARGH!!! Stop deleting my cool comments! ARGH!! 🙂

  5. okc2014 says:

I still say Blake Griffin is way overrated. Love his commercials though. They make me laugh every time because they are just so stupid.

    • Joshua Greenfarb says:

I don’t know about that. They’re pretty hilarious. Blake Griffin usually stretching his legs a lot. Good idea. Got to stretch a lot. Helps avoid injuries. He’s been on fire lately, though. Putting up MVP numbers. Not gonna lie. I’d love to have him on the Thunder team. Back to OKC!

    • Joshua Greenfarb says:

Like Shaq once said, Blake Griffin is like a “cool Shawn Kemp.”

  6. jim says:

Blake isn’t even the best player on his team.

  7. Vit says:

Blake Griffin? Kyle Lowry? Maybe it’s time to shorten the list to just 5 players…

  8. Tj says:

No James harden? Even after averaging 37 points over 3 games? Bewilders me

  9. Jason says:

I think you literally forgot Melo. Not the biggest fan but the knicks have won 4 of 5 with him leading the way and I mean you put Lowry up there…

  10. Joe says:

My question is, where is James Harden, the undisputed leader of a 23-13 team in the west?

  11. realist says:

what i wanted to say is people should stop hating on kd,rose, lebron.westbrook
90 % of the people that hate on them watches nba every day to see iz they have a bad game
    just sad
    nba fans are discusting
    sry for my bad english

  12. realist says:

main reason for durants strugles are 3 pt shots
    last 2 games 3 of 14 and 1 od 7
    poor shooting % is 50 % than ok ( excuse me 49.2 % )
and playing only 25 min vs denver was a real suprise to me

  13. jim says:

Good player, getting better, very awkward at times. MVP? No way.

    • Caldron Pool says:

Could say the same thing about everyone on this list besides Lebron and Durant. Griffin’s numbers are the same as Aldridge. So many people are player hatin’ on Griffin. Other players are so jealous of his fame and money. People need to get over it. Most people are only seeing a few games a year with him. I watch every Clippers game and this guy is ballin’ as well as anybody in the league. Doesn’t have the versatility of LeBron or Durant . . . . nobody does. Relax, he is no. 8 on the list. If the list was made up of only people with a realistic chance of winning MVP there would only be two players on it – LBJ and Durant.

  14. llol says:

wait you’re counting lebron’s loss to knicks but not durant’s poor shooting % or almost half his points beig FTs? the league really wants to do the same they did with rose in 2011.
