Kobe Has Fracture in Knee, Out Six Weeks

The Lakers announced this late Thursday afternoon ET

and the news spread across Twitter immediately.

The big takeaways in the early moments after the news was announced:

Bryant had played in six games this season, averaging 13.8 points and 6.3 assists since returning from an Achilles’ tendon injury he suffered late last season.  In November, the 35-year-old Bryant signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension.

Bryant is injury prone. He will never be same player. La has to move on and rebuild.

  2. JimmyLakers says:

Hopefully this mishap will lead to something special for the Lakersland like hitting the jackpot in the draft lottery at the end of the season.

  3. Eaglos says:

Best piece of news for the team because they will be forced to think ahead
without having Kobe on their back.

  4. theking0522 says:

Well, now Lebron can’t destroy him on Christmas day. I was looking forward to that game. I wanted Kobe to play soon because I wanted to see Lebron beat him, ONCE AGAIN! I love competition and the game won’t be the same without Kobe vs Lebron

  5. Ballin for life says:

    retire?

  6. pej says:

I got fractured knee before and it took eight weeks to recover. So six weeks for Kobe is realistic.

  7. jordi says:

Good luck Kobe. You will be ok soon and fighting for the playoffs! it will make you stronger!

  8. pej says:

During my working years I got an accident that fractured my right knee. It took ten weeks before it was fully healed. So six weeks for Kobe to recover is realistic. Take a break Kobe and you’re on the way to play off run again.

  9. J-man says:

It all started with the vetoed Chris Paul trade.

  10. 3PEAT says:

he just doesn’t want to play against heat…

  11. Dat says:

This is a blessing in disguise. This force the Lakers to rebuild while not upsetting Kobe or the fans. Hopefully the Lakers can get a high draft pick this year and get a free agent. Just like what the Spurs did with Duncan and David Robinson

  12. soso says:

so are they gonna sign gilbert arenas to be agent zero again?

  13. sleeplessbull says:

ok Kobe.. its time!!! you have won it all… now enjoy your retirement…!!

  14. Ken says:

    Blame it on Mike D’Antoni

  15. KOBE says:

positives; doesnt need surgery one it, can look back at film and see what he been doing wrong in the games and get his achillies in more basketball shape, and just fight back harder to be the real kobe!!!

negatives: less wins :( not the same with out kobe

  16. Michael McBride says:

I FEEL BAD FOR KOBE, ON THE BRIGHT SIDE THE INJURIES HAPPEND AFTER 5 RINGS AND SOLIDIFYING HOF STATUS AND ARGUIBLY THE TOP 5 TO EVER PLAY. GRANT HILL, PENNY,TMAC, VC, ALL WENT DOWN AT THE MOST UNFORTUNATE TIMES IN THEIR CAREER. SO AT THE END OF THE DAY KOBE YOUR STILL A PHENOM. REHAB, ENJOY YOUR FAMLIY AND START GETTING IN SOME EARS FOR THIS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED OFF SEASON.

  17. Javier says:

Kobe doesn’t deserve it, but Fakers fans do.

    That’s karma, children.

  18. Nick Richen says:

Let the Tanking for wiggins begin, move gasol and kaman to some teams that will use them

  19. madmaxx says:

lakers finish this season…kobe retire while your on top of the game before further injuries causes you….

  20. PG says:

Wow, this is clearly one of the biggest shocks around the NBA. Even though I don’t like the Lakers very much it is still sad to see great players suffer injury after injury. I thought they would get into the crazy mix of playoff contenders in the west at mid-season.
Hope Kobe gets healthy enough to play so he beats up some teams later on, except the Mavs :-D

  21. thewalrus says:

So…. what happens if a team just completely runs out of point guards? Start grabbing one lucky fan from the stands? Actually… that’d be kind of awesome.

  22. laker4life says:

Maybe it’s time for tanking ….. kobe should take rehab for 2 or 3 months instead of 6 weeks and landind a lottery pick luckily plus a superstar free agent they will be just fine next year … This year is just bad man!!

  23. DWade says:

Lucky Lakers.. Now they can actually win some games…

  24. Dan says:

None of these guys can play forever. Eventually father time catches them all. I’m not a big Kobe fan, but I would hate to see him go out like this.

  25. Destro says:

    He will be okey.

  26. Bersem says:

    Career over… :-(

  27. laker4life says:

come ooon…. that happens when u play injured the last 6 minutes of a game…. :/

  28. Mussublack says:

    Kobe must’ve been going HARD!

  29. Josh says:

    Ugggghhhhh

  30. Jimmy says:

U cant fight father time Kobe

  31. B-Baller says:

This is such a bummer. The league isn’t the same without the Mamba around. Although, I can’t feel too bad for laker fans. You guys have never really had to deal with something like this. I had to deal with 5 years of Greg Oden and Roy always being hurt.

  32. h-town fan says:

he might as well retire unless he wants to come off the bench

  33. ADubba says:

Gosh just started and back to rehab

  34. phibetafunkay says:
