Kia Race To The MVP Ladder: The Clippers’ Chris Paul Takes Over The No. 1 Spot

VIDEO: Chris Paul dominates in Clippers’ victory over Wolves

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – Well, that didn’t take long.

After just one week atop the heap on the KIA Race To The MVP Ladder, the two-time reigning MVP has been displaced. Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul takes over at No. 1 this week, replacing the Miami Heat’s LeBron James., whose tumble down the Ladder has more to do with the work of the new faces near the top than it does with anything James has or has not done.

Kevin Love, Paul George, James and Kevin Durant complete the top five of a star-studded list, while Tony Parker, James Harden, Stephen Curry and newcomers Anthony Davis and Eric Bledsoe round out the second half of the Ladder.

Paul is off to a historic start, joining point guard luminaries Magic Johnson and John Stockton as the only players to score 10 or more points and dish out 10 or more assists in the first nine games of a season. And despite being dismissed already as a championship contender by TNT’s Charles Barkley, Paul and the Clippers are right where they need to be at this stage of the season.

  1. Wilt The Stilt says:

MVP is interpreted as Most VALUABLE player. Not just BEST player. Being valuable is being helpful to your team. Chris Paul wins. All the hate is unnecessary. Best PG in the League. Period.

  2. kellogs says:

everything else CP’s doing is masking his terrible fg%

  3. wuu2 says:

CP3 aint even the BEST PG in the game. Tony Parker all way m8… &I’m a Houston fan lol.

Don’t get me wrong, CP3 is a good player, he is a superstar but with it comes to BIGTIME and PRESSURE all CP3 does is choke. You can’t rely on CP3 when its PLAYOFF time. CP3 aint a MVP. If anyhing, the best 3 players of this season so far are Kevin Love, Paul George and Lebron James.

  4. Kp says:

I don’t think MVP is interpreted correctly… Always thought it meant whose most valuable to their team, meaning if they don’t play at all or play well then the chances of their respected team winning is diminished 10 fold.. In that case Chris Paul is undoubtedly MVP and has been for the last year or two

  5. Jay says:

LeBrons 2nd in scoring and shooting 62% from the field and over 50% from the 3 .. If you still doubt this man than you really need to stop watching basketball. He’s only gonna get better WATCH..

  6. PC3 @SwHTown20 says:

I PICKED PAUL GEORGE BEFORE THE SEASON TO BE THE MVP & MAN HE S MAKING ME LOOK LIKE A GENUIS.But Parker & George are tied for MVP votes so far

    • Ton says:

LeBron’s PIE of 21,3 is already the best in the league. Maybe people are tired of him and his supremacy. But he’s the MVP for years to come, his qualities, skills and impact on the game are unmatched. And he’s improving again in FG%, 3P FG%, and he will get 80% in FT%. Only real contenders for MVP are Kevin Durant and Kevin Love.

  7. james says:

LBj is still doing what he does the only thing wrong about his game is rebounding his scoring is good, fg% is goog and its still only the beginning of the season so he can increase all his other states

  8. Storm says:

I can see a changed list next week considering Lebron’s game for the past 3 games. Scoring 30 or more with over 69 % fg. Keep talkin idiots

  9. watcher says:

Stockton averaged 17, 13+ and over 3 steals, shooting over 50% for a number of seasons yet never received the brown nosed treatment Paul gets, who will also never win a title. Over the Paul love. Dude aint mvp period.

  10. watcher says:

Love 2nd in scoring first in rebounds first in efficiency and you give it to Paul? Ridiculous.

  11. pacquiaoverated says:

Paul George is a joke the reason they are winning is the coach great coach who maximizes his team, and that pacers team is stacked 1-12 no wonder they are winning, Kevin love is the real deal he can dominate Paul George anytime any day, ask Paul George to grab 20 rebounds in a game if he can, that Kevin love is a beast

  12. Marcus says:

Sekou is an idiot. Why is he still employed?

  13. Unkle Daddy says:

I don’t know if Paul is MVP of the league, yet. It depends how deep the clippers go into the playoffs. And on a side note, the next time Barnes acts like he’s tough someone please, knock that woman beater out.

  14. Rick says:

This is ridiculous, Lebron hasn’t done anything this yr, if Lebron gets the MVP this yr I’m done with the NBA!!!! Lebron is overrated ….. I wish I could be on First Take and tell the world how the NBA is Rigged!!!

    • Devin Young says:

I agree with you that Lebron hasn’t done anything this year but it’s only the beginning of the season. I don’t see why you think he is Overrated. He is without a doubt the most dominant force on the planet right now and I bet your favorite player and team have nightmares about this man.

      • Enzo says:

39 points against the MAVS on 18 shots,
“Miami scored 16 points in the final 2:59 of the third, nine of those points coming on a combined 74 feet worth of jump shots from James, and the Heat took an 86-78 lead into the final 12 minutes.
James is shooting 69 percent in his last three games, 61 percent for the season.”
Yeah, I guess hasn’t done anything extraordinary IN COMPARISON TO HIS USUAL.

    • Alan says:

I guess you might as well be done then cause its his award to lose. 30ppg 70% fg 61%3pt is nothing to you? I guess he has to walk on water to impress you huh? Please go watch the NHL.

    • kenny says:

I totally agree Durant should of got it last year I’ve said the NBA is rigged for James for the past 4 years

  15. Bballfan says:

Paul George, Kevin Love, CP3 not in any particular order

  16. jb says:

Cp3 has been bringing it this I agree Kevin love should be number 2 everyone else putting up what they usually do.

    • Jose says:

Honestly cp3 has done some crAzy things this week nth second should Paul George comparing last years season and this one we got unbeaten pacers and George playing like never before so cp3 first George second and Kevin love 3rd even though he too is playing like a beast and bringing Minnesota I step closer to playoffs

  17. Ryan C says:
