Report: Shaq To Play In Mexico?

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – Shaquille O’Neal‘s playing days might not be over for good.

The TNT analyst is currently being wooed by a team in the Mexican league to play a “couple of games” next month. According to a report from Xavier Cabello of ESPNDeportes.com, O’Neal, a 15-time NBA All-Star, is getting the full court press from Sergio Ganem, president of Fuerza Regia:

The 40-year-old retired NBA center received the invitation this past August during a visit to Monterrey, where he did some social work at a community center for youth in wheelchairs.

No deal is in place, but Ganem spoke with O’Neal by phone in an attempt to convince him to return to action, and the team expects a response from O’Neal next week. Ganem noted that O’Neal’s availability will depend, in large part, upon his schedule as analyst for TNT’s Inside the NBA.

Fuerza Regia has distinguished itself for attention-grabbing contracts in the past. The team brought in Dennis Rodman in 2004 for two games and 7 foot, 9-inch player Sun Ming Ming, of China. The season started Sept. 4.

If a stint in Mexico will keep O’Neal out of traffic and clothed (below), then a short stint in Mexico might be a good thing.

    Well done jesse, 100% agree.

  11. bunbury says:

Why not, Monterrey is one of the best Mexican cities and he will be dominant again. I hope….. I think NBA superstars should do this kind of stuff, why play in the nba from 36 through 40 averaging 7-8 points per game. go to europe and average 15-20 points per game and continue to be in the spotlight.

  12. Scott says:

    That’s pretty hilarious.

  13. jesse says:

you know, I like shaq. and I really want him to be funny. But sadly he is not. And he has no reason to be on that stellar tnt cast.

SO ITS BASH ON THE LAKERS OR THIS.. LOL

NBA.COM SURE IS GETTING IT DONE. LOTS OF INTERESTING FACTUAL STORIES TO READ.

With the way things have turned out the last 6 months (Heat winning a championship 8v5, Lakers getting even more stacked and smaller teams not making any real improvements) they are going to do everything they can to keep the spotlight on basketball because a lot of people are starting to give up on this rigged scam of a sport that looks more and more like the Harlem Globetrotters every year.

    • Belizeboy says:

There hasn’t been an article (on this blog) posted specifically about the Lakers since the Aug 31st, and that was about Shaq having his jersey retired. They had something about Howard saying goodbye on Sep 2nd which would be the next closest thing, but even then it wasn’t focused on the Lakers. Plus if you go to the main page of NBA.com, none of the main articles or links go to anything related to the Lakers. Hop over to the All Ball blog and guess what? Also nothing about the Lakers. Where did you even come the conclusion that everything is about bashing on the Lakers?

I don’t see how this helps Shaq at all. It’s not like he needs the money. Though there are a lot of people who aren’t exactly fond of him on TNT. http://bit.ly/RFFFsN

I Love Shaq on TNT, exept when he shows his dislike of Bosh

      • dmontani says:

its probably because bosh is one of the most overrated players in the league

      • Keon R. says:

You can tell he thinks Bosh is really soft. I disagree, Bosh is the only reliable front court Miami has. He does a good job in my opinion. Shaq could stand to be a bit more unbiased.

      • scott the magician says:

        How can anyone hate Bosh?
He sacraficed personal stature/ego/stats/ etc etc.. for the good of “the team”
any player who puts aside his ego to be a champion is in the good books over here.
I respect guys who want to win over ball hogs any day!!
Lets not forget that when Bron and Wade were out he wasnt just good, he was awesome!!
and the season before Miami he averaged 24pts 11rbs
Keep up the work Big Bosh man!! Much respect from Toronto!!
