Get Lin In Rising Stars Challenge Draft!

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal have a chance tonight to do what 30 other NBA executives couldn’t, and that’s draft Jeremy Lin.

What more does the Knicks’ sensational point guard have to do to crash the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge draft party tonight? (7 p.m. ET on NBA TV.) All he’s done is spark the Knicks to seven straight wins and author the greatest underdog story in sports most anyone has ever seen.

So what if he wasn’t on the initial list of players considered for the game that will be played Friday night of All-Star Weekend in Orlando, pitting a mix of first and second year players selected by general managers Barkley and O’Neal.

With their TNT colleague Kenny Smith serving as the commissioner of the draft, all it would take is an executive order from him to grant Lin, and perhaps another deserving player who didn’t make the initial cut of 18 draft-eligible players, entrance into the draft pool. That would give us an even 20 and guarantee that Linsanity spreads its wings all the way through All-Star Weekend (the rumblings are he’ll be there anyway, might as well make it official).

The best part? The real heavy lifting has already been done for Charles and Shaq. The Hang Time vs. All-Ball Rising Stars Challenge draft took place last week, with the home team taking care of business as usual. All the big boys have to do is follow our lead and the team will make complete sense to them and anyone else observing.

And we’ll make this easy for you, with an assist from my main man Micah Hart of the All-Ball Blog, the Top Plays Ladder and the Hang Time Podcast (notice Micah did his best to jumpstart the Lin write-in campaign).

Sekou’s Squad (in order of draft selection):

F Blake Griffin
G Ricky Rubio
G Kyrie Irving
G/F Paul George
F Derrick Williams
G/F Evan Turner

F Tristan Thompson
F/C Tiago Splitter
F Markieff Morris

Micah’s Men:

G John Wall
C DeMarcus Cousins
C Greg Monroe
G Kemba Walker
G/F MarShon Brooks
F Gordon Hayward
G/F Kawhi Leonard
G Jeremy Lin G Landry Fields
G Brandon Knight

Is there anyone out there that objects to Lin finding his way into the draft pool at this point?

And is there any basketball lover in his right mind that thinks All-Star Weekend retains its luster without Lin being in Orlando? This is the easiest and most reasonable way to make sure that Lin is going to be on someone’s couch in Orlando — preferably the one in his suite at the players’ hotel — for the league’s showcase event.

If you’re down for Lin going to Orlando, cast your ballot below and we’ll make sure the right people see these results in time to do the right thing!

Put Lin in this game. Think about the 1.3Billion audience in Asia watching NBA.

  3. Carlo says:

Yes, bring Jeremy Lin to Orlando for the All-Star Weekend.. Let Orlando feel the “LINSANITY”.. Best of LUCK to you my Asian Brother..

  4. edwardv says:

A lot of deserving players like Shumpert,Jimmer,Pekovic,Parsons and especially Lin aren’t going to be there.I myself will probably boycott it and see it as a glorified combine scrimmage.Linsanity is the rage of the nation and the league and without him there it just seems like an incomplete pickup game.

  5. Shawn says:

Jeremy Lin definitely deserves being in this game. If they want to put him in the game they should put another rookie in the draft pool like Iman Shumpert. Iman also deserved to be in this game.

  6. Simone says:

please, don’t ask for Lin to reach Orlando!
I’m a huge fan of the Knicks and of course I fell in love with his plays but all he needs now is to keep calm: all the lights are focused on him, join the rising stars challenge without playing an incredible game like his latest ones could be a problem mentally for the point guard because of all the pressure.

On the other hand I have to admit that if he will join the challenge playing like he’s doing now . . . it will be HELL for the other team

  7. djacob says:

put in shumpert for rooks and lin for sophs

  8. Why Norris Cole isn´t there in the Rookies? He has been playing very good basketball maybe not in the spotlight but very solid basketball.

  9. Rabbi says:

BREAK UP THE KNICKS, THEY MAY NOT LOSE ANOTHER GAME!

  10. Mark Revering says:

My suggestion is to add both Linsanity and Pekovic, the godfather!

  11. Ryan says:

IT FEELS REALLY GOOD TO BE A KNICKS FAN BUT TO BE HONEST I DONT WANT JEREMY LIN TO BE IN THE BBVA RISING CHALLENGE ALTHOUGH HE DESERVES IT MORE THEN ANYBODY HE NEEDS TO RELAX DURING THE ALL STAR BREAK AND GET READY FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON BECAUSE HE’S GOING UP AGAINST TOP TEAMS LIKE THE HEAT AND TOP POINT GUARDS LIKE CHRIS PAUL THEY WANT TO END LINSANITY

  12. Phillip says:

I don’t know who I need to direct this to but I watch the show weekly “Open Court” Love it!
I have a strange but SERIOUS request. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get information about the leather sofa the guys sit on 😄 Maybe someone from set/design can help!!! I would appreciate it greatly. THANKS

  13. Travis says:

Make each team have 10 players. Add both Jeremy Lin and Iman Shumpert onto either team because Shumpert is a better lock-down defensive player than any player in this event. Lin is playing like an all-star and discluding him from a game like this is outrages. Not one other player in this games besides maybe Blake Griffin won player of the week.

  14. Vince says:

Put in Jeremy Lin (Sophomore) and Iman Shumpert (Rookie) to balance the rookie/sophomore ratio to 10 each

  15. Daniel says:

The question of whether or not a 7 game hot streak is enough to deserve Lin an All-Star spot aside, it may be better to consider what is best for Lin’s career and level of play at the moment. The All-star game may be sparkly and inviting, but I am sure there is little argument in it being a showcase event, rather than an environment where young and talented players can actually learn anything to further develop their game. Thrusting Lin into that spot would only pour more media pressure on him to entertain the fans, rather than to play the unselfish and smart basketball that has earned him the appreciation of his star-studded team mates. At the end of the season, I have a feeling Lin would be much more appreciative of a chance to lead New York to a play-off appearance rather than lingering on the All-star weekend.

  16. trueballer says:

    PUT LIN IN!

  17. Don’t make” Silly Warrior & Rocky Mistake”! Jeremy Lin has to be there! Good for both commercial and audience, good for everybody! Good for all the people like basketball!!! If All star miss it, It’s will another “Silly Warrior & Rocky Mistake”!

  18. Gary says:

I don’t normally post on these but I have to say my piece. It would be a TRAVESTY if Lin is not added to the rising stars challenge. He’s a sophomore and this is his only opportunity to play in the game. Its just right to reward him and just makes good business sense to add him to the draft pool. I mean seriously. Kenny Smith has got to get this done.

  19. Michael says:

Add: Jereme Lin and Klay Thompson. DONE.

  20. mharon says:

Lin is flexible, its either of that gruop. i hope lin will get in…lots of his past team regrets!

  21. FSU 4 Champisionship says:

Its the BBVA RISING STAR CHALLENGE….

Hmmm, who has been the RISING STAR OF THE NBA, during the last 2 weeks, Jeremy Lin #17 ofcourse.

    7 games, 7 wins, 20+ points, 8.5+ asts…. says it all…

Kenny Smith serving as the commissioner, you have the authority to put JLin.
Do the right thing, “Just do it.” It’s what the fan wants, and what the BBVA Rising Star Challenge represents.

  22. José says:

Lin is the main reason for his team’s 7 game winning streak, there is no other rookie or sophomore with this kind of run in their resume. So yes, of course he deserves a spot in the rising stars challenge, even if he have to take someone’s else spot.

  23. micky says:

why must be 9 players on each team? make it 10 and put Lin in that draft pool together with an unselected rookie. it makes sense Kenny, do it!

  24. Gotti says:

THE TAIWAN PYTHON IS HEADED 2 ORLANDO…….AN BOY DOES HE DESERVE IT…..DREAMS DO COME TRUE WITH ENOUGH HARD WORK

  25. alexrows says:

How come they didn’t select Iman Shumpert for this game? pick both Lin and Shumpert for each squad.

  26. mharky says:

Put Lin in Sekou’s squad and let him school John Wall once again like what he did in the NBA Summer League.

  27. peter says:

ricky with blake griffin …. buufff the best connection!

  28. Ben says:

Right on Sekou. They need to make an exception of some kind to get Lin into this game. There are plenty of deserving rookies you can add to balance it out.

  29. Eddie says:

PUT THAT BOY LIN IN!! Either he is for real, or we’re all under his “Linception”. Let this day be the deciding factor!!

  30. Joel Molina says:

Jeremy Lin have to be there!!!! is not going to be the same without him, he’s a Rising Star of the NBA!

  31. Fefe says:

Yes we need to see Lin in the All-Star Weekend, but maybe not on this challenge but something like Shooting Stars or Skills competition.

The pb is, if we want to add Lin, we need to add someone else. And the only other player I see who is deserving but is overlooked just because he is not playing in a big city, is Nikola Pekovic. Look at his play, he is awesome. But like Lin, he is a 2nd year, so adding 2 sophomore to the crop of players for the Rising Stars is a problem, but adding only Lin to the Challenge and changing the rule only for him, and not taking Pekovic too just because it’s not “as sexy” would not do good.

Having said that……ALL I DO IS LIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope he continues his crazy run

  32. UnbaisedlyBiased says:

If Rose’s nagging back problems persist and force him to miss the All Star Game (knock on wood that this is not the case), I would love to see Jeremy Lin get the call up to fill out the reserve guards, as one of the selected guards will have to start in place of the missing reigning MVP.

    • Tony says:

7 good games and your donning him an all star replacement….just stop right there

      • CASH says:

        Amen!!!

      • Jeremy Lin: Allstar says:

Although I’d love to see J-Lin in the AllStar lineup, Rondo will probably be called up before Jeremy. But if Rondo was out of the question, Jeremy Lin would have to be the reserve all star guard. He definitely deserves it. Even though it’s been 7 (amazing) games, no other PG in the east has the kind of consistency J-Lin’s been showing. If you can name one…good luck with that.

      • O says:

Word, I mean Jeremy Lin si good and all but Derrick Rose is out for the all star game then Rondo will be the Replacement!

  33. Mitch says:

If Shaq drafts Rubio on top of BG, this will be fun. If they are going to stick Lin in as well, why not someone like Jimmer, Iman Shumpert or Chandler Parsons?

  34. David says:

Blake Griffin is a all star starter, so who ever picks first will have a high chance of winning.

  35. prix says:

Micah´s team have more balance..just take Leonard off and put Lin, he could be great back up for Wall or make a two guard combo to make fast plays… I think they will win against Blake and company… can´t wait to see Lin and Rubio again…this could be epic…
