MVP Ladder: LeBron or Kobe?

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – You’re supposed to respect your elders.

And no one has more respect for Pacers president and Hall of Famer Larry Bird. But his choice of Kobe Bryant for the player he’d like to play one season with if he could, doesn’t jive with the KIA Race to the MVP Ladder.

We’ve got LeBron James, Kevin Durant and then Bryant in a 1-2-3 finish this week. Sure, James and Durant are five championship rings behind Bryant right now. But if we’re talking about the here and now, the youngsters are currently ruling the day.

That Bryant remains in this realm is a testament to not only his game but his ability to persevere while some of his peers that came into the league around the same time (Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan come to mind) clearly look their age.

Speaking of the old heads, we had another one join the party this week. Check out the list to see who fits where. And remember, this is a fluid list. You can play your way on or you can play your way off, but nothing is guaranteed.

You people are determine to down play Kobe’s greatness at same pretend Lebron is so great. Lebron as a solid team that can win without him you guys inflates everthing he does by showing it over and over again to make it seem he is special. he not special, Kobe bryant is the special one. Lebron is really a good player, but really special that is Kobe Bryant he is rare, we see a player like once in a life time. The NBA mistreat Kobe every chance they get they dogg him fine, allow players foul him, abuse him and no calsl no fines its okay if they injure Kobe, but Kobe if does anything or say anything the NBA is quick to hit him with a big fine or suspension, they all will vote for someone other than Kobe. If the NBA was a fair body Kobe would have 4 MVP’s!
Those guy will make a case for someone who does not deserve is over Kobe. So I say The NBA MVP award is bogus! Cheater!
Haters! Go Kobe you are the real NBA MVP. Lebron don’t deserve tobe compared to Kobe!

Yall Kidding me mehn, Guys please dont deviate from the days topic, LeBron or Kobe for this year not for the last ten years ago or the future, I would go for the King easily check his stats this year and his contribution no wonder the Miami heat was preview to be this years champs and they’re having it executed in a clean and professional way, go go go Lebron and the Maimi heat, sorry haters!!!

  4. Renato says:

The best player is Kobe. But we know that MVP doesn´t stand for best player in the league. It takes many factors into consideration.Specially, the spot the player´s team is in the current season,if it has improved from past season and its correlation with the player´s stats.Stats dont mean everything, last season is the perfect example.James would have been choosen the MVP by that cryteria alone, instead of Rose.So after all,i believe that if the OKC keeps this spot till the end of the regular season,Durant will be named MVP,even though,he´s still far from being the best player in the league (he´s got to improve his playmaking abilities a lot).

LEBRON JAMES IS THE MVP NO DOUBT !!! HE’S THE BEST PLAYER ON EARTH !!

Wow.. When he gets his sixth ring.. Every kobe hater would be doubled.. Just wait and see when arenas comes to Lakers..

  8. Niccolo says:

    LET US STOP THE HATE..

LET US THANK GOD FOR AFFORDING US THE TIME AND OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE WITNESSED TWO OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS IN NBA, NAMELY: MICHAEL JORDAN AND KOBE BRYANT.

WHY DOES KOBE BRYANT DO NOT DESERVE THE K\IND OF LOVE AND RESPECT FOR MJ?

EVEN MJ23 RECOGNIZES KB24, WHOM HE SAID THE ONLY PLAYER WHO DESERVES COMPARISON AGAINST HIM..

GREATNESS NO MATTER WHAT IS GREATNESS..

I HAVE DEEP RESPECT FOR LEBRON JAMES, KEVIN DURANT AND DWAYNE WADE, HOWEVER, YOU CANNOT EQUATE OR PUT IN THE SAME LEVEL AND PLACE KOBE BRYANT WITH THOSE GUYS..

KOBE BRYANT IS ABOVE AND BEYOND THEM EVEN IF AT THIS POINT IN TIME HE LACKS THE ATHLETICISM AND SPEED TO PLAY WITH THEM BUT THE BASKETBALL MATURITY, ACCOLADES AND EVEN DEEP RESPECT FROM NBA GREATS SUCH AS MICHAEL JORDAN, LARRY BIRD, SHAQ O’NEAL AND OTHERS.

LET US STOP HATING GREATNESS, THE GREATNESS OF KOBE BRYANT BECAUSE THERE WILL COME A TIME THAT WE WILL BE DEPRIVED OF WATCHING GREAT PLAYER, GREAT SHOOTING GUARD SUCH AS KOBE BRYANT.. SHOOTING GUARDS WITH THE SAME SKILLS, MATURITY AND MASTERY OF GAME AS TO MICHAEL JORDAN AND KOBE BRYANT WILL BECOME A RARITY, AN ENDANGERED SPECIES THUS, WE WILL NEVER WITNESS THEM AGAIN ONCE THEY’RE GONE..

SO, ONCE AND FOR ALL, LOVE KOBE LOVE MJ LOVE LEBRON LOVE DURANT, LOVE WADE..

BUT MOST OF ALL, RESPECT KOBE AT THIS POINT IN TIME WHERE LEBRON, WADE, DURANT AND DERRICK ROSE THRIVE…

LOVE KOBE BRYANT AND KEEP WATCHING THE GREATEST SHOOTING GUARD THIS ERA…

with 2 seconds left on the clock and down 1 point who do you give the ball to? Lebron or Kobe? A rational person would give it to Kobe. For the simple reason that Kobe is clutch and a game winner he deserves to be MVP more than Lebron.

  11. MVP 2012 says:

LeBron for M.V.P. without a doubt.
Despite the criticism and mockery he received, he’s still the best player in the game.
Not only does he average close to triple double numbers, the Heat wouldn’t have one of the top standings without him.
Kobe should be out of the question because despite his points average the Lakers aren’t doing well.
People shouldn’t be biased towards Kobe just because he’s aging and can’t win another ring.
Kevin Durant should be #2 on the list.

  12. Sherwin Chase says:

I’M PRETTY SURE NO MATTER HOW YOU HATE OR LOVE HIM, WE WILL ALL SURELY MISS KOBE WHEN HE RETIRES! Dat is, if u will only be true and honest 2 yourselves! HE GOT ONLY A FEW YEARS TO SHOWCASE HIS GOD GIVEN TALENTS! COME ON GIVE KOBE A LITTLE BIT OF LOVE!

  14. samtotheg says:

I hear all kinds of silly things from you uniformed sports fans /slash kobe groupies

kobes game is hard to stop its more fluid, really, the guy is shootin a PATHETIC 44 percent from the field and his team is 3 games above 500, and 2nd kobe is not the mvp his play hurts the team yesterday when he didnt shoot in the 1st quarter his team was up by 15 or some number like that , when he started shot jacking in the 4th his team won by 2, can someone explain how the lead shrrinks the more kobe shoots,

and also he is NOT CLUTCH the guy shoots in the high 20′s percenetage wise in the clutch , thats pathetic in fact lakers offense ranks middle of the pack in the last 6 minutes of the game ,cuz kobe predicatable ball hog bryant makes the lakers easy to defend wit his ballhoggery and shotjacking, he shouldnt even been in the discussion for MVP,

hes got 2 other all stars with him bynum and gasol , who both are not playing bad pau is averaging 16 ppg 10 rebounds 50 percent shooting and bynum is averagin 16 ppg on 54 percent shooting and 12 rebs, those are not scrub numbers , what happens is kobe starts hoisting stupid shots ,and he freezes the bigs out , and throws them off their rhythm,

seriouly tho find another team where the 2nd and 3rd best guys avaraging at least 16 ppg and over 10 rebounds and shooting 50 percent I bet their record is not 3 games over 500 or some pathetic number like that.

KOBE is considered as the CLOSEST THING WE’VE SEEN TO MICHAEL JORDAN! DEBATED AS ONE OF THE ALL-TIME TOP 5 PLAYERS OF THE NBA! AND YET his VALUE as a player is only 1 mvp award! SAD! SUCH A DEBATE ABOUT HOW KOBE IS ONE OF D ALL-TIME GREATS AND BEING COMPARED TO MICHAEL JORDAN AS D ONLY LEGITIMATE REPLICA SIMPLY SPEAK OF HOW VALUABLE KOBE HAS BECOME TO THE ENTIRE NBA! DAT TO ME IS D MVP!

  18. Lets face the facts the folks at NBA.COM and NBA TV they all hate Kobe, so does the NBA commissioner and ESPN aswell, They are working together promote Lebron as the best player. If you notice they are forever using Lebron in ads, they are always saying negative things about Kobe, and good stuff and praises L. James when ever has a negative issue the hide it from the public. They are hard at work to build Lebron James as the best player and the face of the NBA, They are trying to convince the fans that Labron is the best player. But really he will never be as good as Kobe! Lebron has said it himself, ” Kobe is the best in the NBA”.

  19. Sherwin Chase says:

KOBE is PLAYING at a high level despite his age and injuries! HE’S PLAYING EACH AND EVERY SINGLE GAME as a leader on and off d court, through his game, and by way of an example! HE’S PLAYING EACH AND EVERY SINGLE GAME AS IF THERE’S NO TOMORROW! and yet, he deserves no mvp!

  20. LeBron does not deserve it says:

I am a HUGE heat fan but I don’t think LeBron deserves this award. He is putting up MVP type numbers BUT he has Wade and Bosh to help him out. LeBron has played a significant role in the HEAT’s success but he also averages more minutes than Wade who I think is in the top 15 of the race to MVP (I may be wrong). If two players are this close in the race doesn’t that cancel each other out? The entire point of the award is that if a team doesn’t have that player than they would crumble. The HEAT would suffer a huge loss but certainly not crumble. Same goes the Durant and the Thunder. The Thunder would not crumble without him but they would still be a decent team. However, the Lakers would be destroyed without Kobe. Kobe is the only one who is consistently putting up points to get his team the W with some help from Bynum. Pau is lost without Phil Jackson.

  26. rolly says:

i did’nt blame why lebron went to heat that’s because of the championship ring…,speking of an mvp race i think lebron does it again coz in a way they have a big three he score almost a triple double in a game compare to others

  27. pete111 says:

Kobe is clutch and Lebron is not, to me that means a lot. Kobe also has a more fluid style that’s harder to shut down. How many times have we seen him be double teamed only to drain a fade away baseline jump shot? Lebron is a simpler player I believe without as many nuances in his game as Kobe. Teams come playoffs work out and can counter Lebron’s game, there’s no countering Kobe’s game. I’m not the biggest Kobe fan but I do think he’s the best player in the league and the way he’s going should be MVP.

  28. laurence345 says:

funny thing is, kobe may score 40 points per game, they would still lose to a weak team. hence, iys useless weather u score a lot when u cant even win. kobe still has it, it hasnt changed, he’s still a good player with good team mates. the only thing he doesnt have now is a good coach. which he had all along his career. he wouldnt b this far either if it wasnt for phil.

  29. Messiah says:

Everyone says Lebron shouldn’t win because he’s playing with to other all-stars last time I checked when Jordan won his Last MVP he had Scottie and Rodman who were both All stars those years so please!!!!!

  30. Messiah says:

When Lebron won MVP the Cavs had the Best record back to back.. The Cavs I might add… He deserved both i hate how the game of basketball is fared now a days. It’s no longer what someone does it’s who’s more popular. A lot of you people don’t like Lebron so naturally you would try to discredit the man for what he does on the court.. LBJ MVP for right now a lot more ball left!!!!!

  31. Bridgepa23 says:

Thats funny, Lebron had no body at the CAVS and yet he took them to the finals, top in the East a number of times, Whats Kobe’s Excuse, he still has Gasol, DFish and Meta? Hands down Lebron, look at stats and shooting percentage.

  32. Iknowhtefacts says:

Lebron deserves the MVP because of his stats. He came up with 28 Points per game, alongside with 8.2 Rebs, and 8 asts.

    That’s an absolute MVP level.

  33. JordanL says:

Sekou… how can u say the youngsters are currently ruling the NBA; when the 33 year old man is leading the league in scoring by nearly 2 points and is still the best closer in the game today. Not to mention Kobe is MUCH more important to his team’s success than Kevin Durant and LeBron are to the Heat and Thunder’s success becuz LBJ and Durant both have legit 2nd options on the perimeter unlike the Lakers who get NO production the perimeter besides Kobe,

So… 29.3pts, 6reb, 5ast and the best FT shooting by far outta LBJ and Durant is not taking over the league?

I sometimes think people think when u get to a certain age (unless ur MJ); you just can’t be the best player in the league. Becuz when I hear Charles Barkely talk; I never hear him give a legit reason why he thinks LeBron is better than Kobe besides the fact that Kobe is 33 years old and LeBron is 27.

  34. HeatKingOfEast says:

for all anti lebron out der, the stats of lebron can tell why he is at top 1 at mvp list. he is the most efficient player in the nba. just go by the stats. if ur going to say that its not all about statistics then think about this: what made a college student be a cum laude? the grades right? it just applies in any sport like nba. what made lebron no. 1 in the mvp list? obviously is his stats.
Another thing, if you’ll go by the standings, clearly kobe is out of the picture here. so it will be lebron, durant and rose we are talking about at no.1 spot. mia, okc, and chi standings are just next to each other, chi has just more games, and okc had just 6 loss because of the controversial goal tending call on portland. if okc loss that game and should have, these 3 teams would have same losses at 7 games loss.
Just a thought, what is harder? score points in a weak team with only you as an all-star or to score in a good team with 2 all-star players aside from you. just think about it.
Bottom line! lebron just take around 15-17 shots a game but can score around 30+pts playing for 37/38mins. how about kobe? or durant? ahahhhahha

    • OKCKD35 says:

Lebron and Durant are within 1 minute per game, 1 shot per game and 1 point per game, so to your answer yes kevin durant can, and has (see back to back socring titles) and the standings say 6 losses and the best record in the NBA. Not 7 losses and tied with the heat and bulls.

  35. WOW says:

Everyone says Kobe is aging, I saw the game against Toronto and I saw him hit the game winner, as usual. I think he had 11 in the 4th, THAT is how you finish a game….maybe Lebron should take notes. An MVP in my opinion is who you want to have the ball at the end of the game. Kobe is the best closer in the game, he lives for these moments. He should have won that MVP when he had that monster season years ago, he just doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Sekou Smith this means you….
@Roly Junior: Lebron is NOT the best player in the game, that’s how I know your a little kid, MJ is the best to ever play and IDC what the stats say, watch a Bulls game and come talk to me.

  36. what says:

Call Kobe a ball hog but can you imagine Lakers without Kobe? Who’s got the confidence to take those difficult shots right now? and besides can you please visit the ladder of this seasons turnover leaders? He may be a ball hog but with lots of reasons. the season has a long way to go so let’s wait who is really fit for that MVP award.

  37. mcado says:

    MVP
KOBE should’ve had 4 MVP by now.
Is KOBE good enough to be this year MVP ? Yes
Should Lebron get the MVP? No Why he’s on a team that have 2 other Superstars. Two other franchise players.

What is the criteria for being the MVP? Each year the sports writers change their script on what makes the MVP.

IMO Kobe is owed a MVP if the Lakers finish top in their division. Why? Because what Kobe is doing is short of a miracle?
After 16 seasons in the NBA and to be playing at this HIGH level, is just UNBELIEVABLE! I just don’t think people are really taking the time to think what this guy is doing.

However, I know KOBE will not get the MVP. So its has to go to some else, who? Durant or Rose or Wall or ???

    • kvndrnt says:

if lakers were n the top 3 han kobe deserves it this year .. but loo at it lebron single hadedy use to take cabaliers to the conference finals .. kobe should prove that hes better than lebron by taking a weak team to the conference finals or atleast the semis.. how can u consider kobe to be the mvp wen lakers r on number 7 in their conference right now and mght even miss out on th play offfs lol

  38. VonDon Brady says:

    1. Wade
    2. Lebron

    4. Derrick Rose
    5. Kevin Durant

i personally think you are the STUPIDEST person on the planet. you actuallly think wade is better than lebron, thats why they are like 14-1 WITHOUT dwayne wade right.

      • Carl says:

YOU are the dumbest person in the world. Let’s not forget how that guy you ride disappeared in the Finals.

    • Brock says:

Dumb….MOST VALUABLE PLAYER award kinda means the single player that is most valuable to their team. You are saying Wade and LBJ are both more valuable to their team? defeats the purpose of MOST! The only way they should get the award is as a combined MVP….but this award is not the MVD! (Most valuable Duo)

  39. Roly Junior says:

LeBron James is the best player had ever live just check his stats he is the BEST!

    LeBRON MVP!

    4. Kobe
    5. Wade

  41. SImonCa says:

Dwyane Wade should be on the ladder. 27.2 ppg 4.4 apg 3.5 rpg in only 33.5 mpg (!!!!) in last 5…..

  42. Sam Robinson says:

Kobe or lebron you mean Lin or Lebron

  43. Vince says:

All candidates deserve to be in the MVP race; However, I feel that Kobe is the MVP of the season so far. Without Kobe the Lakers might be in last place in their division. New coach, weakest bench in the league and an aging team with big stars like Pau Gasol struggling, Kobe has been the sole reason the Lakers are even close to being in the playoff picture plus Kobe’s string of 4 straight 40point games was very impressive for someone who is 33 years old.

    • kvndrnt says:

how can kobe be the mvo wen his team lakers are barey in the play offs contention .. if lakers were in the top 3 then cud condifer him to be the mvp .. but look at ther record even a new guy like lin outscored him in the knicks game …are u kidding me? wats kobe doing that deserves the mvp award, his team is barely in the playoffs contention thats wat hes doing?

  44. Mr. Lebron says:

@aaron… Are you idiot?. Are you saying Durant is better than Lebron because of he have Wade and Bosh. That’s the most ridiculous comment i have ever seen. 1st, Durant have a all star teammate as well that is Russel Westbrook. 2nd, Lebron still putting up MVP numbers even if he have Wade and Bosh (that can score 20+ points a game). 3rd Durant have not prove anything in his career. ok he is two time scoring champ. that’s it?.. 4th this article is all about Lebron and Kobe not Durant…

    • OKCKD35 says:

whhat has Lebron proven? nothing either, you have no logic. I think Durant should have won 2 years ago when his team improved from 23 wins to 50 wins and he won the scoring title, same year lebrons team won less games than the year before, he trailed durant in scoring and still got the MVP. Last year is was Derrick Rose in a landslide, yet him and Westbrook had a very similar stat line. Lets call this what this is and make it known that the medai decides the MVP not the fans, not the stats!

  45. Sure.. but don't talk about KG says:

Sure Kobe’s still playing at a high level… but he didn’t have to LITERALLY carry a Timberwolves team on his shoulders for so many years like Garnett, that guy definitely deserves to look his age.

  46. RFN says:

Kobe scores a lot, because he takes a lot of shots. You Kobe fans aren’t this stupid, are you? It’s James’ award. Get over it.

  47. Alen says:

    Jeremy Lin.

  48. Spurs fan says:

also Kobe did come in at 18 or 19 years old like KG ..Duncan and Dirk came in the league at age 21 22 so Kobe has an advantage age wise as well ..their all bigs Kobe isn’t as a guard your not stuck down low so you can capitalize on fastbreaks easier then big as well as your smaller and quicker..the Spurs are obviously still holding there own and btw TD has help so he don’t have to do much at this point in his career ..he got his mvps ,rings etc…Kg has help , dirk has help but dirk has to perform for dallas to survive

  49. Patrickmarc says:

Kobe is still motivated and no injuries!
He is the man I would choose first for the national team.
May be Durand when Kobe will retire. But the young mamba is still alive.

  50. c0achdesigns says:

    @Sekou

Well, that’s what this week says (maybe Shao-Lin would also be in the top 3 MVP contenders). The season is still far from over. It’s not all stats that makes an MVP – an MVP. With Steve Blake back on the roster of the L.A., expect changes from my MVP and the Lakers to win more ball games the rest of the season. I’m still anticipating what they’ll do before the trade deadline ends. Then the excitement will go from there.

  51. aaron says:

how is lebron #1 it doesnt make any sense, the thunder have the better record and definately not as good a team. Why? Kevin Durant. And this week, he averaged 30, 9 and 2 blocks, how does that not make him #1? Look at it this way, if you take Lebron off Miami, they have Wade and Bosh (two all stars who can score 30 on any given night, especially this year with Bosh playing very well). If you take KD off the Thunder, they dont have a 20-6 record. NO WAY! They have Westbrook, yes, but they do not close to the same record. Any team with a all star trio can win alot of games. Lebrons numbers and the Heats record dont impress me when he’s on such a good team. The measure of a great player and an MVP is making others around them better. Lebron does not need to make Wade and Bosh better because they are already good players, but Durant’s team has a better record with a team that is not as good, that makes him the MVP…i simply dont get this infactuation people have with lebron james saying he’s the reason miami is so good and deserves the MVP when they have 3 all stars. gimme a break.

    • Sick says:

it’s not about the MVP of the week stupid….

    • Brock says:

Yeah and if you take Kobe off the Lakers, they MAY be better than the Bobcats. Kobe is 100% of this team. Without Kobe the Lakers would be so long forgotten. With Kobe they are never completely out of a game. Without LBJ? The heat are still fine with Wade and Bosh. Without Durant there is plenty of talent and Westbrook is a leader in his own right, even outscoring Durant a lot of times, for the Thunder to win. Chris Paul is the closest to Kobe in terms of value. He has turned the Clippers into a scary bunch of contenders. (if he was on the Lakers I would not think that Kobe could be the MVP, because he wouldnt have to do near as much) Even Rose, and believe me, I LOVE DRose. BUT! W/o him the Bulls are still one of the deepest teams in the league and would still win many many games. Not to mention his numbers are so pedestrian this year, and he is only on the list right now because he is the reigning MVP. Dwight Howard? Well I’ll admit, he should be pretty high up there, he is the only reason the Magic have been contenders the last few years. He is the Def. POY every year and only continues to get better, but they have a lot of good leadership outside of him to get it done on the court. What about KLove? Well he is the game’s best PF, but as proven with him out of the game, the wolves can still win and get it done. And he had one of the most amazing seasons last year with all the double doubles, but was not able to lead the Twolves to wins. So he’s not really a candidate for MVP. Really outside of these 6, LBJ, Durant, Kobe, Paul, Rose, and Howard there is no one who even warrents a spot on this list.

Another point I want to make is how can there be 2 “Most Valuable Players” on the same team? That is contradictory of the meaning of this award. With Durant and Westbrook on this list, it is just foolishness to even consider either of them as the MVP. They are both amazing talents and are the REASONS (plural) that the Thunder are 20-6.

I will say, LBJ, Wade,Howard, Durant, probably even Paul and Rose are currently more athletic, more talented, and overall better than Kobe at this stage of his career (though, give me Kobe 6-7 years ago over any of them any day). But in terms of being more valuable to their team? In terms of competitive drive? In terms of Leadership? In terms of Sheer willpower to win? There is no question. None at all. KB24, The Black Mamba, Kobe Bryant.

      • JJ says:

Hey you contradict your self. MVP doesn’t mean an average player in the league but best among the team members. Kobe is a hero for his tema. As you mentiond above there are players outsmart him in the league. Kobe has those numbers because he is allowed to hold the ball as long as he is inside the game. Others play differently. They trust their team mates and also have good numbers like him. Thus, Kobe doesn’t deserve the top No.1 Spot at this time.

    • THE TRUTH says:

KEVIN DURANT DOESN,T PLAY DEFENSE. LEBRON IS THE BEST IN THE NBA OFFENSIVELY, AND ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSIVELY. KEVIN DURANT IS JUST BERNARD KING REINCARNATED (I KNOW HE’S STILL ALIVE), BERNARD COULD SCORE 40 EASILY BUT HE NEVER PLAYED DEFENSE.

  52. I agree with all of you guys but today my opinion has changed because Lyn from New York Knicks. I hate New York Knicks but this guy is playing good basketball with a little of fortune as well. He is no more than Derrick Rose or Steve Nash and He is not the Bruce Lee of basketball due he is from China. I dont have nothing against him but Media and crazy New York Fans hAve created a superstar where is no place to elevete him.
It annoys me that situation , when a regular no pro player ,as Lyn, is in the spotlight, New York times like the messias, it is really annoys me so hard.
Kobe …well i dont know…I stay with Lebron.
And that chinese it is just a lapses in the season. I reapet I hate his game…NO BALLS.
Crowd in Madison Square Garden yelling MVP TO LYN!!! …………….no words pathetic all those rich fans yanke fans with no style…they are only rich crowd fans…and I tell this cuz I used to live on the Big Apple…..
They go where the sun is shining as same as Lakers and Chicago fans.
too bad. Just my humble opinion.:)

It’s called enthusiasm. And that’s 4 win in a row, leads by Lin. I’m not a New Yorker and any city will be excited if they got this situation. I feel hatred inside you.

Hey Sekou, move Lin into top 10 !

  53. prix says:

Kobe don´t deserve the talk…it´s Lebron and Durant this year…Dwight on 3rd …Kobe 11th…Lakers are dying, Kobe is aging..

  54. zenun says:

lebron desrves to be the 1st in the race no doubt.team record and stats prove that

  55. JordanL says:

If u compare Kobe’s team to LeBron or Durant’s; you see Why Kobe is in the MVP race and why this team is struggling. Lakers LITERALLY only have 3 options (and at times 2 if Pau doesnt wnna show up) and Lakers are the worst 3 point shooting team in the league, with the worst bench in the NBA, with the worst starting point guard in the NBA, and with the worst starting small forward in the NBA; yet they are 15-11 and are in position to still land a top 4-6 seed in the west.
Also Kobe is leading the NBA in scoring at age 33 in his 16th year.

If Lakers can go on a winning streak; then Kobe should be MVP becuz of wat he has to work with as far as his team being the least deep team in the league and having no shooters or athletes.

  56. Larry levendosky says:

Who has turned a perpetually moribund franchise into a division leading title contender overnight with great stats and better leadership?

There’s only one right answer for MVP: Chris Paul. Dwight Howard second. LeBron third. Kobe not even in contention.

    • OKCKD35 says:

what about Durant? he too a team from 23 wins, to 50 wins, to 55 wins and playing in the conference championship, yet he;s not even in the debate? oh not to mention the best record in the league right now!

  57. JohnZ says:

No faith in the MVP award whatsoever. If I point out I’m a Kobe fan,you might not be very suprised.Honestly I feel this would be the 2nd season Lebron actually deserves an MVP award….little to early to say, since Rose might finish hard

Kobe vs Lebron? As in who gets the MVP? Comeon Kobe lead his team to 65-17 in 08-09,no MVP(got the title though),why in gods name would you give him the MVP now?And don’t you tell me he didn’t have a good season!!I’m just saying these MVP choices make no sense to me.There’s no logic no common sense. It’s not about whose really most valuable,it’s about team record, player stats and the voters own preference.

    • c0achdesigns says:

B’coz, they are stats MVPs. More like M-V-P stands for MOST VIRTUAL PLAYER. It’s not how valuable a player to a team now. Individual awards are not the ultimate goal anyway. D.Rose deserved it though beating LBJ last year coz he really is the most valuable bull out there. That is how MVPs are awarded.

  58. Angie says:

When you look at Kobe’s peers and how the winds of change have taken them out of the top tier (KG, Timmy, Dirk, Vince), or off the cliff altogether (Tmac, AI, Starbury) the fact that Kobe is still bossin is just amazing. He’s literally the last one left from his generation that is still in that top tier of player. We debate on these boards, sports pundits debate against each other, people calling into talk radio all day, kobe or bron? Kobe or Wade? Kobe or Durant? Who’s better? Who would you rather have? The story IMO isn’t who’s better. The story is that at 33 years of age and 16 YEARS in the league, there is a still a LEGITIMATE debate. Kobe is still holding his own against these spectacular players entering their prime. I can’t wait to see what these kids look like 16 years into their careers.

    • OKCKD35 says:

Kobe is one of the greatest to play the game, that being said i would not consider him for MVP. He has the lowest shooting % of him, durant , and James yet he takes more shots that anyone else. As per the precidence set a league MVP has to be on a top teir team. (that is the only arguement for Lebron winning the MVP 2 years ago when KD deserved it more) That being said if the lakers were near the top of the conference MVP talk. but they are not so lets automatically hand it to James since you all ride his jock anyways.

  59. SikWitIt says:

I don’t see why Kobe should be considered simply because he’s averaging 29pts. Lakers are still struggling so what does that tell you? I mean if we put Kobe in the race simply for putting up numbers why not add Steve Nash as well? He’s much older and averaging about the same numbers he did when he won an MVP.

    Anyhow, Durant for MVP.

    • kobe says:

well lets see..they have no bench..no point guard and r last in the league in 3 point shooting..Gasol shows up half the time and besides Kobe who else can create own shot of dribble..thats why he is a candidate..

      • eli says:

dats true but kobe has been in da league longer but is still no match for lebron james bcuz he cannot shut him down on da court n besides kobe has no game!

    • Carl says:

Kobe has no game? …You are now the dumbest person on this planet.

      • JJ says:

Guys, Kobe is self centered, he always hold the ball and scores. He is a good player. Look at Durant he shoots better, when we come to Jems, 1st of all he is one of the best intertainer, share the balls with anybody who has better position to shoot. He also scores and defend. In my opinion I ranked the MVP ladder Jems, Durant and Kobe to 3rd.
