Ring Night In Dallas

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS — The wait is finally over.

It’s jewelry time in Dallas.

Exactly one month after they raised their 2011 championship banner to the rafters, the Mavericks are getting their championship rings tonight (LIVE, 8 ET on NBA.com). And if there is any truth to the rumors, you better wear sunglasses if you’re going to be at American Airlines Center for the Mavericks-Timberwolves game.

As Jeff Caplan of ESPNDallas.com reports, “The Time is Now” for ring night:

Jason Terry said the thrill of this final championship celebration probably won’t hit until he holds the estimated $40,000 piece of jewelry in his hands.

“We’ve only seen a brief design of it,” Terry said. “Once you get it and see and hold it and touch it, it’s probably like a baby — you know I got four of those — so that’s probably what it’s like.”

Mavs owner Mark Cuban said he paid a total of $1.4 million for the rings for the 15 players and the entire coaching staff. The design is similar to the one chosen by the 2009-10 Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.

One side of the ring will include the player’s name engraved above the team logo with the player’s jersey number. Terry said he also believes the team’s postseason motto, “The Time is Now,” is engraved on the ring.

Having witnessed the Mavericks’ run to The Finals from start to finish last season, it’ll be an interesting night to see how the players and fans react to the rings being passed out.

It should be interesting …

  1. Just another perk of the job!

  2. Bulljean30 says:

Why did Marc Cuban had to pay for the Championship rings instead of the NBA? Also, why was the reason that Dallas did not get their rings on opening night against the Miami instead of later into the NBA season against the Minnesota Timberwolves? Thank you in advance.

  3. Bulljean30 says:

Why did Marc Cuban had pay for the Championships rings? I thought that the NBA would pay for them instead of the team owner?

  4. King James says:

Your right that’s their last with a trash record this season their lucky to make the playoffs this year. Keep dreaming Mavs fans Dwight will not going to your team because he will stay in magic until the playoffs if Dwight want a championship he should stay in magic because they have a good record so far and big threat to my team. So enjoy Dallas Mavericks because THAT IS YOUR LAST!!!!! hahahha

  5. ShakenBake says:

Haha they better enjoy it because it is their last

  6. Nowitzki!! says:

i hope they repeat this year. can they afford to get Dwight Howard before deadline?

    • KIM D. WELLS says:

they can afford dwight and also williams, or maybe both.. they have huge salary cap,

      • Nowitzki!! says:

so i think hey should think about getting dwight howard in mavs roster and him and williams come, they gave a chance for repeat

  7. chosen one says:

Congrats to the Mavericks organization, I will surely be watching this ceremony

  8. charles says:

Barea played a critical role for the championship and I’m glad they waited till this evening to make this happen so he can be part of the celebration. That little guy has a big heart. I can’t wait to see him in full health and attacking that basket.

  9. Jonathan says:

I wish they kept the full 2011 championship roster intact for this season. Chandler and Barea played important roles in winning last season and their absence is obviously felt now. Especially Tyscon Chandler’s presence in the middle.

    • MavsFan says:

How do you figure that we need Tyson? Our center dual team is paying dividends… and Barea is missed but give Roddy some time and he’ll transform to that type of player if not better. Everyone needs to keep in mind that we didnt have an offseason to gel and work as a team… Its all different personel and its going to take some time… Besides, it only matters when the REAL season begins, the playoffs!!!

      • Dave says:

Why do people say the regular season doesn’t matter? Hello, you have to win in the regular season to even get to the playoffs… so, the regular season does matter.

      • robbay2 says:

Dave it still doesnt matter if you are seed 1 2 3 4

it requires determination to win it all.

  10. Rich says:

It wil be nice to see all the 2010-11 players join the ceremony.

  11. Roy says:

They have to wait this long for championship rings? And they have to pay for them? I thought they got them shortly after winning the championship and the NBA paid for them?
