HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – They have at least two more weeks of cover, the Knicks. With the Giants heading to Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI, the Knicks will gladly concede those back page headlines in New York to their NFL counterparts for the time being.
And they’ll be doing so with good reason.
The Knicks are a discombobulated mess right now, complete with a coach under constant fire from critics, a roster that seems completely out of sync with one another and an uncertain superstar in Carmelo Anthony, who is openly questioning himself and his game in ways that would make any Knicks fans nervous this deep into his first full season with the franchise.
The way ESPNNewYork.com’s Ian Begley described the locker room scene after the Knicks’ lost their sixth straight game to the Nuggets, Anthony’s former team, the alarm should have gone off in all five boroughs. A puzzled Anthony, sitting in full uniform trying his best to formulate his own theory about what’s going wrong on a nightly basis is … again, this is not what Knicks fans signed up for:
The Knicks (6-9) had lost four home games in the past six days, two to teams with 4-9 records at the time.
In those four games, Anthony shot a combined 35-of-105 (33 percent).
“Maybe I need to not take so many shots. I don’t know,” he said. “There’s just a bunch of stuff that goes through my mind. Just [trying to figure] out ways to make other guys better. Should I pass it more?”
In the midst of questioning everything, Anthony accepted blame for the Knicks’ six-game losing streak.
“The coaches do run the offense through me, so I’ll take it. I’ll take that blame,” Anthony said.
It’s good of Carmelo to nominate himself, because someone has to take the fall for this, especially since there is really no way to make sense of the mess that this particular Knicks team has become since Christmas. And it really goes back further than the start of this season. As my main man and NBA.com’s Shaun Powell pointed out over the weekend, the Knicks are a paltry 20-28 since ‘Melo trade. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are 31-16, including playoffs, during that same span.
The addition of Tyson Chandler was supposed to help shore up the shaky defense, but that hasn’t happened. Being forced to part ways with Chauncey Billups in order to get Chandler robbed the Knicks of the sort of veteran leader they’d need to help sort things out for Anthony and All-Star big man Amar’e Stoudemire, who hasn’t looked anything like the guy who carried the Knicks before the trade last season.
We tried our best to refrain from passing judgement prematurely against a team still integrating significant new parts, and we still haven’t seen if (and what) Baron Davis can bring to this situation to improve things. But when we flipped over to the end of that Nuggets game Saturday night and watched the way Danilo Gallinari just abused his former team for a career-high 37 points and 11 rebounds, it was clear we could stay quiet no longer.
It might not be as easy as just firing coach Mike D’Antoni (who is in the final year of his contract) or trading away Stoudemire or Anthony, all things that have been and continue to be topics of discussion on blogs and beyond. These guys are all stuck with each other, at least for the time being. And no, you didn’t have the luxury of a regular training camp to sort through some of these chemistry issues and right now there is no stabilizer on the horizon.
Maybe there is no making sense of this mess that is the Knicks right now. Suggestions that the offense needs to run through Stoudemire more won’t solve the bigger issue. These parts just don’t fit without the right facilitator. The Knicks need someone to filter the offense for everyone else. D’Antoni’s “system” that worked to perfection in Phoenix did not include just pounding the ball inside to Stoudemire. It needed Steve Nash‘s hands on the controls to thrive.
There is obviously no Nash-like figure on the Knicks’ roster right now and the real Nash is still in Phoenix, so the remedy for what ails the Knicks will have to come from another source.
We’ll leave the suggestion box (below) open for you!

Clearly Mike D’Antoni has worn out his welcome in Gotham. Pat Riley was one of the few coaches to turn a mediocre Knicks team around into an instant contender with one superstar surrounded by role players. An SOS needs to be sent to Phil Jackson, Mike Fratello or Jeff Van Gundy to save this sinking ship. The New York Knicks are a franchise built under the pillars of defense. They need a coach who can teach x’s and o’s and hard nose defense. Defense wins championships. Carmelo and Amare can coexist and win, however they must develop the same principles MJ and Co did with the Chicago Bulls dynasty back in the 90′s. Without team chemistry and cohesion, whoever the Knicks acquire they will not win a title. Baron Davis cannot save this team right now. It’s going to take a team effort, coming together to form a well oiled machine. Systems don’t win championships….defense and teamwork do. Dolan is an owner and it’s going to take a great basketball mind to convince him what’s best for the Knicks. Phil Jackson….
Clint, thats exactly what I keep sayng…
A key point of what you said is Mj&CO…Who is willing to be MJ and who will settle for the very important “CO”…this is the problem on that team..Amar’e and Melo can’t …they litterally DO NOT know how to keep an offense going without taking a shot ( good or bad)…MELO GEEZ..when I saw him darn near triple teamed and HE STILLLLLLLL took the shot , it blew me away..I said in my head ” i can’t beleive i had a Melo purse ( yep i have a melo purse) had he not been out of the nuggets Jersey i wouldn’t be able to swallow this truth for what it is…What elite player can’t decipher drawing the triple team and finding an uncovered open man…As my organic chemistry teacher told me 3rd semester of undergrad,,as we went over the exam Key and pondered as to how on earth we were supposed to remember every step to CORRECTLY solve the reaction….”This is what separates the A’s from the B’s”…in this case..the Melo, Amare CHandlers…From the Mj&CO:s…..
You know, thats what kills me about knick fans the minute something seems like its going wrong its time to abandon ship, however let them get a few breaks and a few games over .500 record, you would say the knicks are going to win a ring. Make up your mind about your favorite team! booing from the fans on your home floor is highly unacceptable as well. Im not even oppose to a couple of trades but if you are stuck with what you got knicks then here it is.
Bill Walker- your nice, focus you game on strong factors: 3ball and strongly driving to the rim. as you grow as an NBA player i can see you being a jason terry 4.0
Ivan shumpt- yeah your pretty good but if we are going to give you the start(over my man toney douglas) get a routine focus your attack on the league with your team play
relendo balkman- excuse my spelling but why dont we have defense i need you to lockup you hear me lock up the best scorer and attack strongly, expect more ft attemps
yes there is hope for all knick fan but you have to get them a chance!!
Phil Jackson would be a perfect solution.
But Knicks need a PG bad.
I’m a Knix fan but they are royal trash this year.
I couldn’t agree more with Clint’s “take” on D’Antoni. I wonder in amazement that people say the success of this coach because of the regular season…..his Suns playoff teams never did anything. And I mean he had himself some outstanding teams. The second he was hired I thought he was a decent transitional coach, but he’s NOT the right fit for this team. Would have really like Avery Johnson at the time.
D’Antoni runs college basketball-style offense, whereas just outscore your opponent and you’ll do great. But it doesn’t work in the NBA. I was hoping the Knicks will look for a new coach, and then and only then can we Knick fans begin our much-needed new start. We’ve been MORE then patient without a single playoff win since Round 1 game 3 of 2001!!!
there is one solution that would make the knicks a top contender, his name is deron williams, hes a free agent after this season, and seeing how bad the nets are looking with trying to get dwight, deron can come to the knicks.
And how do you suppose they would pay for D Will?
Don’t blame the coach. As I remember it the Nicks started out great last year with the lineup they had. They were looking to be real contenders for the playoffs. Then the owner trades everyone for Melo. Now Denver is playing how NY was at the start of last season. Not that hard to figure out where the real problem is.
I’m going to weighh in on this honestly and objectively. There was a reason the Bulls or the Lakers didn’t trade for Carmelo last spring. He DOES NOT make your team better. Exciting maybe, but not better. You never hear the question about building a team around Carmelo…it’s ususally James, Durant, Howard, Paul, or Rose, but never Carmelo Anthony. He is an elite scorer and offensive talent, but I don’t think he can play together with other star players. And to answer his question, YES, YOU SHOOT TOO DAMN MUCH!!!!!!!!
Is this totally Carmelo’s fault? No. Tyson Chandler is very good anchor and help defender, but the WHOLE team must play defenae. Defense wins championships and that discipline starts and ends with the coach. Fire D’Antoni. There ae still other major problems, but these are main culprits of this mess they call the Knicks.
I totally agree. He can just score. He has no defense whatsoever. His shot selection is questionable at times. He is somewhat like JR Smith. He takes bad shots even though he makes some of them.
Melo has the same issues as allen iverson, amazing individual talent but somehow makes the team worse. He is taking a high volume of shots with a large proportion being poor, yet where is his help? Amare struggling, chandler dunking lobs but not much else on offense, shumpert who looks like he will be very good in a few years trying far too much and forcing the issue and the rest…… it might be time for them to show up and start contributing.
Uhmmmmm. this may be too little too late..but waiting for Anthony to become a FA, keeping Gallo and a upcoming soon to be All-star pg in Felton and having chandler as that sg on the wing..probably looks like a Grand idea right now. As a Nuggets fan ( i proudly say)…that just can’t be, now can it? I say ship STAT out..(sorry) and find an All-Star pg like today..May d will is willing to come for pennies on the dollar ( doubts) is CP3 still willing to join his friends after 2013? Maybe Steve Nash wants to rejoin STAT if he is kept ( again for pennies on the dollar or for trident layers gum) My point is they need a PG STAT ( no pun intended) and they need him basically for free…
Wow go Nuggets.. The-feel-good- we’re-gonna be -the- red headed step children- of the league after MElo’s- gone..but -oh Look no were not -kinda story!
Knicks didn’t need Melo. Thsy should have traded George Karl for D’Antoni
I agree with you.
Dolan is to blame.
Walsh was going to wait it out.
If the man’s agent says he plans to join NYK when he becomes a free agent.
Let him become a free agent and sign with the team.
No No No Lets trade the entire team for 1 guy.
Why don’t they just let us loyal Knicks fans suit up n go on the court ??
Just wait baron Davis come that will make things beter
I hate watching this team go through his, i believe we can win but they play like elementary kids, we need a coach that can bring this bunch together or we are doomed we also need a PG not a backup a PG that can control the pace of the game. This group can win its just a very big lack of effort, id rather watch Gallo, Chandler, Felton, stoudemire, fields thats a team this is just a joke we need to deal amare while we can cuz it aint happening with this group of guys
Really Stat??
I would trade Melo first thing.
they never should have traded for gallo… him alone is worth two melos.
we the knicks need to trade amare and tyson to magic for dwight and glen davis, the trade melo and shump to nets for deron williams and deshawn stevenson or marshawn
Why in the world would Orland take a straight up trade involving ONLY Tyson Chandler for Howard AND Davis???????
I can see the trade with Melo and Derrin Williams, but your Tyson for Davis and Howard seems like a rookie remark. OMG…………………………………GO HEAT
Im sorry, even if you involve Amare in the trade This is stll VERY lop sided
I don’t know. Dallas could land D-Will & Howard.
Maybe Howard could land in OKC for Perkins via trade.
I highly doubt Howard will end up on the NYK.
I would trade Melo for D-Will @ this point.
Its obvious D-Will isn’t going to stay in NJ.
Why would you trade ‘melo? Trade Ama’re for DWill if anything! Dwill and Lopez for Ama’re, some picks and Shumpert or Davis and Bibby or all of the above. They need players who can add to the team in more ways than scoring.
I wouldn’t recomend them to start a panic. I think they have a good roster but to make a team work they need a solid point guard and I think Steve Nash would make a nice fit. They just have to figure it out how to get him. And about Mike. I really don’t think is all his fault. more on the players.
I always love writing the same thing about the knicks !
Carmelo Anthony = Gleen “Big Dog ” Robinson => Does this guy looks like a guy that can take a team farther than the first round ??
Amare Stoudamire = Keith Van Horn without the 3pt shot but with some dunks => soft PF who can’t rebound and can’t play any D!!
How is it possible for a team to win with those two as best players ?? The knicks need to find a TRUE star, not those wannabes, and then they might think about contending or something alike.
Ok, melo = glen is pretty good or I’ll say he’s like glen Rice but STAT = KVH? Hell no!
@jacknohara that was dumb for you to compare our great players to those low lives. Name 10 players in the NBA who can play defense. Its a team game so you cant blame it all on Amare and Melo. It starts at the point guard position. You have to have a coach on the court to make the ingame adjustments and that something that the Knicks dont have. Now if I was you I would reconsider your writings and pick up a basketball guide and choose your player comparasions wisely
Sounds like its time to trade 4 Nash!
A trade for Nash will completely hurt the Knicks not help them, Its clear that the Knicks are a first round Playoff team this season even if they land Nash, They should forget about him and launch a bid for pieces that work, Luke Ridnour and Raja Bell, and a deeper front court with someone like Tayshaun Prince, Anderson Varejao. The Knicks need toughness, and a better bench, right now they are running on the hopes that Melo gets somewhere close to a 30-8-5 and Amare becomes a solid 20-15 player on a consistent basis as well as hoping Iman Shumpert and Landry Fields can provide some kinda offensive spark without hurting the D, Dougles is a good PG off the bench but he is no floor General and the Knicks don’t have the pieces to play without one. Nash cannot solve all these problems, he can facilitate but as the season grows Baron and Nash would seem like a risky backcourt an old one too.
Problem in New York is simple…They traded a good team for a Marquee name who is one of the most over-rated players in the League, he is over-rated as people refer to him as a superstar when he is only a superstar on one end of the court (offensive) but defensively he is a below average player. The spacing last season for the Knicks offensively was excellent. Gallo,Felton, Chandler could knock down open 3′s they swung the ball they played defense (remember Gallo taking a game winning charge from melo when the Knicks played the Nuggets), Gallo had like a Ginobili like x-factor to him and Amare thrived with them guys around him as the focal point…..They traded all of that for an isolation and volume shooter…Billups however still covered up a lot of cracks on that team but since they used there amnesty on him and way over paid for Chandler, the Knicks are in trouble!! Chandler is an excellent anchor but in Dallas he had excellent perimeter defenders in front of him (Marion, Kidd, Stevenson the list goes on) now he sees waves of players attacking him. However pushed that trade through from the Knicks front office are responsible Dantoni didnt want the trade so donesnt deserve a lot of the flack he is getting
Don’t blame it on Melo! Guy is doin everything he can and whats best for this team every night! FIRE D’ANTONI!!!!!
I don’t agree. Melo stops ball movement.
Once DEN wanted R.Felton, NYK should of walked away.
The entire team takes 3 pointers every other second.
Get in the paint. Maybe Dolan should just get Anthony Mason & Charles Oakley back.
This Dolan guy really grinds my gears.
I don’t think that firing their coach is a solution. The problem of this team is the team itself. Blame it on the 1 week training camp? You already have 15 games and counting and you’re still thinking about the chemistry? First off, Carmelo shoots way too much. Amare was less explosive because he is now a secondary option. When your primary option is a ball hog, we got a problem. Second, I like the rookie Iman but he shoots way too much for a rookie aside from the fact that he plays PG position. If you want some improvement, use Bibby more and move Iman to the bench. Third, do some plays! Don’t rely too much on isolation plays. Move the ball around..
Coach D’Antoni does need to be fired. Why do you take out a player such as Bill Walker who is red hot (might actually get contagious) and never bring him back into the game? He was hot and nobody else was doing anything. To me its like he makes some bad decisions. You always stay with the hot hand.
Knicks Rock
Rock Loses !!!
The Knicks are not renowned for patience/maturity, but they are trying to adopt a new style, which requires those traits off court and on. The have a high post defensive center, two inside mauler forward, a rookie wingman, and no proven pressure point guard in the early stats. A swingman is the other in the top five scoring. The need time to adjust, and a healthy pressure point guard, not a new coach. When there is no Wilt/Kareem/Shaq/Artis/etc. available, with or without a shot clock, point guard needs to step up from least respected to most respected position. The Knicks don`t have John Stockton, but no one else does either. Small ball, which the Suns learned from Coach Wooden`s firwst chapions, having had Erickson, Hazzared, Goodrich on the team (all also Lakers), NEEDSD a healthy Baron Davis, or some such.
All this melo down play is crazy melo is 1 of the top players(if not the top player)in the nba. Everyone goes thru a slump. You will praise him when he hit game winners and then doubt him when he struggles. Smh true fans ???
Top Player in the NBA???!!!! Pushing it…
If he was so top notch, wouldnt have to rely on game winning shots.
Beat teams from the jump. Stop taking so many 3 pointers.
The team is soft. I think its a locker room full of nice guys.
I’m a Knix fan too. Just my honest opinion.
they need steve nash and amare!
make a trade with celtics… perhaps rondo could run da offense…. x)
Well…they could actually backed off from Melo and gone with STAT and the rest of the bunch. And they would look for a point guard this past offseason and could also get Chandler. For Melo to be effective he needs a point guard to deliver the rock to him and actually shoot as much (because that’s the only way we know he is effective) and be the team’s undisputed leading scorer. And then you need a rebounding and defending center to back those aspects of his game on which he is not that good. Stoudemire has not been rebounding efficiently. Anthony’s actually pretty good, top 3 in offense in the league, but he is very high maintenance and needs vast talent to back him up.
Knicks should find a way to trade amare’s and tyson for Superman Dwghit.
In this entire Blog, this is the first suggestion anyone made that would actually make the Knicks better. The rest is just blab, blah, blah blah – SMH ROTF
i been said this go up
Take it easy on Melo. He is scoring atleast 30 PPG. This could be brutally honest, STAT is a great finisher. But he is damn worthless without a great floor general. I say take Raymond Felton back or get Steve Nash.
Sure he is scoring 30PPG and taking 30 shots per game to do that. Thats pretty inefficient!
The Knicks ruined the chances they had at a good future of contention and eventually championships with the Melo trade. They could have just waited it out and signed as a free agent (Melo himself said he didn’t want a trade to the Nets) and kept most of their roster intact, and most importantly, keeping Felton and Gallinari to form what would have been one of the best starting lineups in the league. (Felton, Fields, Anthony, Gallinari, Stoudemire) This is what happens when you get greedy and try to hoard stars just to fill up the seats.
I give a starting line up that would of been even better going into this year if the knicks would have just waited until the summer to sign melo they still could have picked up chandler because they would have never signed billups in the first place so there lineup going into this year would have been (Chandler, Stoudamire, Melo, Galanari, and Felton).
Jamel, Why wait when you can trade your whole team for 1 guy ??
Dolan is to blame bro. Another Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys.
Dont know when to stay in their lane.
I agree with what Clint said up at the top. He was the 1st that commented. But I do think D Antoni needs to go for starters. A coach looking bewildered during an NBA game won’t help the Team-mates…
give them some time to make it work. i’m sure the Knicks will play better in the near future. Melo is THE BEST CLUTCH performer in the nba, and stat is a great pf. Also Tyson may help, and if Baron doesn’t work out, then try a trade for Nash. Simple as that!
Melo only hits so many clutch shots because he takes so many. Example….against the wizards this year, Melo hits the go-ahead 3 pointer with 15 seconds remaining. If you saw the preceding minute of play you would see melo single handedly blow 3 opportunities to take the lead by bricking shots or commiting turnovers. This is just one example but it’s a similar scenario almost everytime (and I’m a fan of Anthony and the Knicks, so there is no bias here).
New York’s biggest problem is that they cannot score the basketball. This stems from the fact that they lack a true point guard. The Knicks are ranked 17th in the NBA in scoring at 94.3 points per game. Seventeenth. This is the first time since D’Antoni became head coach in 2008 that the Knicks have averaged less than 100 points per game.
Although Tyson Chandler has not totally revamped New York’s defense yet, they are allowing fewer points per game (96.7) than they ever have under D’Antoni. In fact this is the first time that New York has allowed fewer than 100 points per game since the 2004-2005 season when they held opponents to 99.7 points a game.
Defense hasn’t really been the problem in New York. The Knicks’ inability to put the ball in the basket is what is truly killing them. For New York Knicks fans everywhere, hopefully a healthy Baron Davis (whenever he returns) will be able to help the Knicks put some points on the board.
I think a great idea would be to get nash to the knicks. Nash still has a good 2-3 yrs left in him and if anyone deserves a chance at a title its him. And lets not forget that he is an outstanding play-maker, which is exactly what the knicks need right now. Nash at the helm with the weapons of amare, carmelo, and chandler would be more than a playoff contending team.
The answer for these guys is clear, they need a veteran PG who can run the offense because neither Shumpert or Douglas have been able to do it. I don’t think Nash would be the best fit for the Knicks either as he keeps the ball way too much. He needs to be surrounded by guys who can catch and shoot. I would make a Push for Tony Parker
Well if they needed a point guard with New York savvy why not get that pg from Utah Jamaal Tinsley who can still create, score and has some basketball acumen. The Knicks are too much Melo and not enough everybody else. Stoudermire is lost and so is the coach. They let Nate Robinson go who is flourishing. Baron has a bad back and is a layup away from disaster. I know about herniated discs personally its no joke. Jerome Jordan needs to be developed like they did with Mozgov. I like the other knicks with Chandler Gallinari Felton Mozgov and Stoudermire. They had fire desire and hunger in them. Not to say this bunch doesn’t. It just ashame that Melo doesnt get it that its a team sport and he can get his numbers if he plays within the system. Its a ashame he don’t stop shooting them out of oblivion.
FIRE THE COACH WILL FIX THE PROBLEM
Who wants to coach this bunch. Mark Jackson is with Golden State. Phil Jackson doesnt want to come to this mess. Van Gundy no. Who then Patrick Ewing?
That’s what you get when you put three overrated players together and expect something special to happen. Carmello and Stoudamire are ball hogs. They will never be at a championship level until they are the robbin to someone’s batman. Neither one is batman. New York would be better off trading Stoudamire for a team first player like Rondo. He has won a championship and has played with three historic players and would be capable of staring carmelo down.
Carmelo always reminded me of Iverson, with slightly less talent. I always felt there just wasn’t a team you could build around Iverson that could gel and win a championship. If Carmelo wants to win, he needs to take a back seat and understand he’s a go-to guy on offense, but not the only guy…plus learn to D up. With just a decent PG managing the offense, they could contend in the East.
They gave up way to mucb for Melo and this has left the cubbard bear!
Dont blame Melo, Melo-trade destroyed this team. Blame Dolan, not Melo nor Mike. Now we must rebuild, so Dolan must pay for Nash and more talented role players
I agree Dolan is to blame & Nash is needed.
The Knicks should of never give up Raymon Felton and Wilson Chandler. It is that simple. Now,since they got what they got, they now have to just complete a deal to get a good point guard to play with these guys. Bibby and Davis are non lasting athlets. Douglas and Shumper are only good for back up. So, the New York Knicks need a pint guard and a good shooter from the peremeter (two players) besides Anthony.
D’Antoni doesn’t need to be fired, he just needs better peaces to get his team ahead. Who’s to be blamed? Simple, James Dolan, Mr I’m in charge. If he would not have mees around with Walsh, he would still be around and I’m sure the Knicks would be having a better team right now. But Noooo (Dolan) -I have to have my nose stuck in all this. Then there you go, are you happy now. God only knows what kind of things they told Chandler to convinse him to join them. I’m sure is not working that way.
So, here’s a tip for those exsecutives who handle this type of things. Get Wilson Chandler back and a good point guard like Raymon Felton and things will get sooooo much better for NY.
I TOTALLY agree with my fellow Knicks fans on here who are calling for D’Antoni to BE FIRED. This man has brought disaster on our team. Why does he still think that his discredited “7 seconds or less” offense actually works? It NEVER worked in the postseason in all of those years in Phoenix and it’s STILL NOT WORKING. How awful is it to see our players rushing blindly to take 3 pointer after 3 pointer after 3 pointer, only to see the ball CLANG off the rim or the backboard EVERY SINGLE TIME??? I’m sorry but THATS NOT BASKETBALL. Mike D’Antoni promotes a culture of losing by relentlessly encouraging stupid 3 point shots and a breakneck offensive tempo that doesn’t even allow a decent scheme to be set up. D’Antoni’s time is up, this man MUST GO IMMEDIATELY!!!!!
Look please dont Blame Melo He is not the Problem but of course he is going to get the blame being the best palyer on the team. It alll lies with the coach you cant shake up a rotation when a player is Hot . Everyone is talking about the old kinicks with chandler galo and mozcov they would not have even been close to a playoff Run. Amare has never been the same since his knees surgery so why keep him he is anaother overpriced Carlos Boozer Fire Dantoni and trade amare for a solid Pf who can defend and rebound and a floor general at Pg
FIRE THE COACH PLEASE
I CANT TAKE THIS NOMORE
MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS UP
Carmelo Is not the balme for the Knicks struggles. He is the best player on the team so it gets to be another Denver situation Look it starts with coaching and the front office For instance You pay a overrated Amare stoudamire $100 million a year he over priced another Carlos Boozer and he cant Defend or rebound . You Release a legit PG in billups now you stuck with Bibby shumpert and Tony Douglas Barron davis is not the Answer. Carmelo is puutting his career on the line each night and puts his team in a position to win and they cant Do it. They need to fire dantoni then trade Amare Tony Douglas and Landry fields to houston for kyle Lowry and Louis Scola .
Here’s what the Knicks should have done over the course of the past 2-3 years up until now:
a. fire everyone in the front office. They need a new general manager. Not an ex-player, not a coach, but someone who knows how to manage a team or a business as a whole and someone that is willing to take risks on young athletes, develop them, and then put them out on the court. This team needs to build through the draft!
b. not to go after free agents. The Carmelo trade might have been the worst decision ever for any franchise to do. He doesn’t play hard, he’s not that flashy, he doesn’t play defense, he’s lazy and he’s simply not good, PERIOD! He’s not a leader in the locker room, he has a poor shooting percentage, and overall, he’s a ball hog! Who’s evaluating the talent up in NY? And what did they see in him?? Not a whole lot of teams wanted him to begin with, I think NY just needed a big name guy in town, and that’s what they received, A BIG BUST. The knicks had previously also traded for Stephon Marbury… where the heck is he now??? ….. exactly!
c. They need to start off by building the team around the back court, with a shooting guard, to compliment the point guard, with a defensive minded Center in the middle.
d. They definitely need to Trade Carmelo Anthony, as his stock value has decreased significantly.
e. They need a better bench, a bench that can actually score!!
f. they should also think about changing the logo!! It’s a great way to start fresh and to sell merchandise. The logo they have now is outdated and boring! Change the colors, just do something different!
Tyson Chandler was a great pick up, but he’s definitely loosing a step in his game. The perfect roster would have been:
C – Tyson Chandler / Darcko Milicic (develop him)
F – Danilo Gallinari / David Lee / Wilson Chandler (off the bench)
F – Zach Randolph / Amare Stoudamire
PG – Raymond Felton / Nate Robinson
SG – Chauncey Billups
I apologize for writing out such a long and detailed outline of what the Knicks should have done, but as a fan of the game and as a fan of the Knicks, a former high school player, and growing up watching the good ole days of Patrick Ewing, John Starks, Charles Oakley, Larry Johnson, etc. I felt like I needed to say something because this is just plain ridiculous and silly. The Knicks front office have dug themselves in a hole in which they can’t seem to get out of.
I have a bachelors degree in advertising and communications. And a masters in common sense. If anyone reads this from the NBA or someone from the Knicks organization stumbles upon this, please feel free to contact me as I am willing to offer my consultation services.
Trade Amare and Tyson for Howard.
I love how everyone was excited for the melo trade, everyone was excited to have Melo come to New York. And then we got Tyson Chandler and everybody thought it was going to be a great fit. Now they’re going through a slump, and they had a VERY short training camp and everybody is screaming to abandon ship? Wow. Melo is the best scorer in the NBA. Period. He doesn’t need a point guard, or anybody else to get his buckets. His issue right now is his injuries, he still has the injured right wrist and the ankle injury. Why is he still shooting so much? Nobody else will step up for him. Plain and simple. He doesn’t trust anyone to do it and he is right in thinking they won’t. They have major chemistry issues, which WILL be resolved by April. Thats two months away, and by that time you’ll also have Baron Davis. So for all of you that are saying that we should trade melo or STAT, don’t you dare be saying you were behind their back all along when they get everything together, because if you can’t support a team in a slump, you aren’t a true fan.
Agree Melo7. So much hype and certainty when Melo arrived, then the addition of Tyson was the missing defensive link – damn we had it all wrapped up! Now we dont have instant results the player haters all come out. Give it time. Give Davis a chance.
I will go further to say that there is repeated poor decision making being made on the floor and in my opinion, this is coming from D’Antoni.
Where’s Phil?
NASH is the ASNWER.
They need Steve nash? are you serious. The problem with the knicks is they bring stars just to make money not to compete. If you want to compete you have to be patient and make the good choices. Give up Billups for Chandler was the biggest mistake, and now they have no point guard to guide this team. Plus, Chandler need an atheletic point guard to be productive, Melo won’t move enough in the field to follow Nash.
Sorry for my bad english
Phil Jackson is officially retired and by the way, he is the most overrated coach in history. Even if he were in good health, he would never take over a team that is not already championship ready. The Knicks have too many challenges, and to compare Melo to Jordan is ridiculous. Jordan had a complete game and played like a “player-coach” since he was such a leader on the floor, pushing his team to be better, something Melo completely lacks, and something a coach cannot fix, especially Jackson.
I don’t understand why melo has a large fan base. Yes I know he is a good scorer but its obvious hes the type of player who just want to win it for himself (I can see it in his behavior), like he don’t care about the team’s ranking and a championship, etc. It seems like he only care for himself, a true ball hoger who misses a lot of shots. I think melo doesn’t even get care about the fans, if he is that is just more acting involve and some force empathy.
Dr. Phil
Mike D’antoni CANNOT COACH, full STOP. He doesn’t believe in accountability, discipline or have a strategy out there. The Knicks need a MENTOR. In professional sports, coaching is about providing mentorship, bringing about accountability & teaching the team about roles/responsibilities. That is not evident from D’antoni’s coaching style. It’s a dog’s breakfast. There is no sense of order.
Coaching a team of superstars somewhat commands a military-like approach. This is what defined/defines the Phil Jacksons, Doug Collins, Jerry Sloans & Doc Rivers of the world. We can see the fury on each of their faces when mistakes are made yet maintaining their composure to provide constructive criticism. NYC doesn’t need some wussy little feeble minded guy who screams, “Let’s go, Let’s go, Let’s go” as the solution to every missed shot or rebound out there. This is a man’s game. Mike is held to his nepotism towards Amar’e and is too scared to take action for poor shot selection and lazy defense.
Mike lived and breathed off Nash, as did Stoudemire. In the big city, especially NYC, we need a coach who has authority and commands discipline by making DEFENSE the primary responsibility of EVERY member out there. As the old saying goes, “DEFENSE WINS YOU GAMES.”
Trade both D’antoni and Amar’e for Howard.
trade melo for love an rubio
D’antoni and toney douglas as a PG are the main problem. A couple games have been ugly (Bucks,Raptors, etc), but if you look at alot of the other loses, their are actually a few key moments in the game where 1 of 2 things happens. D’antoni puts out a terrible team and we lose lead and he refuses to change or call T.O. untl lead is gone, Douglas chucks the ball 2-3 times in a row or we miss open shots repetitively. The defense is fine, but STAT needs to run PnR with Iman AND Melo. Dantoni has no offense. He is an absolute joke and Nash made him look decent for years.
solution
jerry sloan or jeff van gundy
Cant say I think Baron Davis is the cure. He might be, but at that age and a body that is falling apart, I dont buy it. Chauncey can do it still, I doubt Baron Davis can. And when was the last time Baron Davis was truly dominating? I’d say when Carmelo’s Nuggets barely edged out Davis’ Warriors for the final playoff spot a few years back. There is no answer for this team other than a roster restructure. They have 3 great players in chandler amare and melo, but other than that?? At least the Heat have a few role players. The 4th best player on the Knicks roster from what I saw at the beginning of the Nuggets game is Bill Walker. If Bill Walker is your 4th best player, your team will have issues. And if you want to consider Shumpert their 4th best player, still doesnt show a whole lot when your 4th best player is a rookie playing alongside the blackhole of basketball (Anthony). Just fyi, I am a Knicks fan, but im not sold on them being as dominating as they thought theyd be.
Well first i’d like to write i agree with PUNI5HER here:
Despite personal dislike, I cant blame D’Antoni for the trade that brought Melo to the Knicks.
That was done by the front office. Its a shame that Donny Walsh agreed to such a deal, leaving
the Knicks in such a messy situation! This guy was capable and did a great job for the Knicks but this?
To add more, Just take a look at the bench and you see the reason for the poor performances.
In fact theres not much more than a starting five. No add talent in sight.(No Gallo, no Chandler, no Robinson, no…)
The only good development is Shumpert, the Rookie guard. In Absence of Davis, he got precious minutes of playing time,
and I hope that works out when both Davis and Shumpert are going to play together to form a stronger backcourt with Landry Fields than before.
Personally, I think that Davis still has it and he can help the Knicks big. In creating some offensive flow, directing the offense,
including Amare in the system. He’s a veteran player. He’s most definately capable to do that!
To conclude, theres no better day ahead for the Knicks than Davis return to the court.
I mean, do you want Bibby to run the Knicks offence??? No? Ok.
Lets hope Davis is both physically and mentally fit.
I really can’t see this situation as Melo’s fault…more D’Antoni’s fault and also rest of the roster…nobody has the balls to shot the damn ball, isted they want Melo (injured) to play all alone practicly and just stand there watching will be or not be a basket….give the guy real players nothing spectacular and then it will bw Melo with 30 – 35+ pts taking 15-20 shots because this crysis he is in will not last forever….once again…he is not at 100 %
Ever considered it might be the GM’s fault? It takes 8 solid players to win a championship…. the Knicks have 3, maybe 4. You can’t blame the players or the coach for that.
Melo is the MOST overrated player in the league, only reason they reached WCF was Billups and he is proving that in the Clips #3 in the West, the Knicks?? #10 or #11. Felton is a really underrated PG watch a Portland game and you will see he is already finding the rhythm he had in N.Y. last season.
They traded one of the most promising young teams in years (Felton, Gallinari, Chandler, Mozgov) for a so-so player, ‘Melo is a top 30 maybe top 25, i don’t know why people like him so much, he is not that good. Same goes for Stoudemire, a big and strong PF who can’t play defense for god’s sake! It seems these two had success in the past thanks to their outstanding teammates, Nash & Billups: the two best leaders in the entire league.
Tyson Chandler was a nice acquisition but if Knicks don’t change the way they’re playin’ right know, they will miss playoffs.
Kniicks should have never gave up chauncy billups they would have been better off signing samuel dalerbert and other role players to surround amre and melo with dalerbert would have been cheaper and does the same thing chandler does except sammy can shoot the ball better
We need to see when Davis is healthy if the team can work on a different kind of play. D Antoni must run the offense trough Amar´e distributed by Davis, if this doesnt work fire D Antoni, trade Douglas and bring Van Gundy and another young PG whos heart will be in the court.
Nash aint goin to Knicks, as much as i would appreciate his PG skills in NY, its almost like adding another guy who will be needing to get paid a little to fix a Goulash lol. I also dont think NASH is the ANSWER, since hes getting a little older, for a few years hes still gonna be a force, but i wouldnt bank my money on him being a main culprit of the rebuild. I agree with Deron WIlliams trade, would be nice, But Amare, Melo and Chandler should be working together, just try talking with EACH OTHER!!! its like a marriage, if u dont talk about issue as it arises, forget it, it will skyrocket into a disaster. TALK KNICKS, TALK!!!
WIth that said, i still go for my HEAT, but good luck to NYK, i really hope they get it together!
They got to get Steve Nash as of yesterday.
Carmelo Anthony = Paul Pierce = OVER RATED! Period!
Paul Pierce – 3pt Champ, NBA Champ, Finals MVP. Period!
the problem with the Knicks is that they got rid of Billups a future hall of fame point guard who can still perform at an all star level (as he is proving in Lob city with the clippers) for an overated/overpriced Center in Tyson chandler know they have no point gaurd to run the offense propperly and they have to put all the pressure on poor Carmelo who everyone all of a sudden is saying cant play ball especially on defense. but does kevin durrant play any great deffense NO he doesnt he’s just 6ft 11inches and plays Small Forward so he gets couple blocks which he should be getting being that tall and guarding shorting players all night. Knicks GET A POINT GUARD.
The Knicks need a point guard Tony Douglas is not a starter Baron Davis is going to help but we need another guard i don’t understand what is going on with “Mike Bibby”….. Carmelo Feels as if he has to carry the team because they are in a tailspin if other players would come around an stand up for one of there stars like he is taking the blame for them you would see a change….. “Stat” has to pick his game up cause he disappeared an that’s not cool he is a force in the paint an he has a mid range jump shot an can hit the 3 but he needs to take control of the inside. Instead of blaming “Melo” help him by hitting shots!!!! He was the one that saved us against the nuggets (by saved i mean overtime) he saved us many times get him a “POINT GUARD”. People talk about “James” but guess what he had to give up on his home town team to go run wit “D Wade an Bosh” or lets not forget “KG” running with “Paul an Ray Ray” in boston everyone needs help an the key to those teams they have a point guard an a coach that talks “DEFENSE” not just “OFFENSE”. But hey i am just a fan with views that loves his “Knicks” i just know this we have one of the BEST teams in the league an when the turn around happens all the people that are hating an judging us please don’t be shocked nor hop on the bandwagon…..
Clint is on the right path.
I want some defense that intimidates people with an offense that is more team orientated.
I think, Sekou, you are not giving enough credit to the Knicks defense. Most of the time they kept teams under 100 points. The only problem is the shot selection and the movement offensively. When the ball goes to Melo, everybody stops. That isnt working because Melo isnt taking good shots. He takes a lot of contested jumpers, although he could get inside on just about any defender in the league. So i think Steve Nash would make this team better, but the problems the Knicks have right now can be solved without him
THIS ANSWER IS THE LACK OF A TRUE POINT GUARD PEOPLE! I feel sorry for Tony Douglas because he’s the only one left to run the team’s offense after all that trading they did to fill the stadium seats. He is a back up point guard and that’s all. The Knicks are forcing him to be something that he is not, which is unfair for him. Right now this team needs a player like Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Rondo etc. to operate the offense and be a leader(Not saying to trade for them just as example). I am not a Carmelo fan at all, in fact I think he is very overrated! But in his defense he needs a point guard to set him up. He was GREAT in Denver because of Chauncey. And his so-called wrist injury and ankle, come on man, Kobe has torn ligaments in his wrist and still throwing up big numbers, although Kobe IS a heck of a lot better player and probably not a fair comparison., but just as far as injuries go. I am a REAL Heat fan, they have 3 BIG players, I don’t know maybe I would watch and learn their system a little bit and jot down some pointers from their offense, just saying. The Knicks problems can be solved with one adjustment or many, we dont know because right now nothing is being done! I do wish they would become a more competitive team though for the rest of the NBA. Their game is just ugly right now!! They have way more potential than that! FYI Iman Shumpert is gonna be awesome. Just give him some time.
d’antoni should pack up and take laundry fields along. then get chauncey back and a decent 2. id go for raja bell or someone
ALSO Nash is not the answer. That would be a stupid trade because he might would retire after the next couple seasons, and then what. Back to where the Knicks are now! Nash stay in Phoenix and enjoy the rest of your days!!
knicks need a coach not a sissi
i don´t understand why trading for a guy who wanted to come to NY????
And then lose soo much felton, gallinary, chandler and mozgof . Imagin the team whe haad now…
Looks more like Haywood and McAdoo than Pearl and Clyde.
Knicks need a new coach he shouldve been fired after the first lost to the Charollette Bobcats i been saying this they need to bring Jeff Van Gundy out of the announcing booth and give him the coaching Job
How about a neighborly trade, melo to nets for d-will. May make sense for both teams.
Nets need a superstar for their upcoming move to Brooklyn while Knic\ks badly needs
a PG.
I agree with that Trade.
I really don’t think they should trade Stat or Chandler.
Trade Stod for Deron Williams & Humphries.
Bring back Van Gundy.
There is one guy in Europe Steve Nash alike. Milos Teodosic, he plays for CASK Moscow. Pls check youtube and you’ll see the needed piece of puzzle.
They need Steve Nash. He knows Dantoni’s system and could make them an instant contender. Imagine Nash penetrating and giving the ball to Mello on the elbow or Amare pick and roll…. lobs to Chandler! Instant title contender… if only they would play D !!!!
the knicks have been a mess no matter who they have on the roster. the management is awful but nyc is such a money machine it doesn’t matter, but they need a brain running the operations.
They don’t need 5 point guards, but one floor general and a good defender like Stevenson
I don’t think that Steve Nash will change things. Yes the team will be better but not as much as you probably think. Look at the team there are two of three key players whose absolutly don’t fit with D’Antoni system. Soloution?? If it’s on me I’ll wait two matches. If the knicks lose both of them I’ll fire D’Antoni and hire new coach (the best will be Phil Jackson but this is probably and sadly just a dream) and wait again for Baron Davis.
People calm down as soon as they get a pg back who understands the game thy might even get deep into the playoffz
I honestly believe that they never should have traded for Melo. The Knicks were doing so well with Amare ripping it up and Felton running the point. What a shame
IT WOULD BE ALL BETTER IF MELO DDIDNT SHOOT SO DANG MUCH…….GAMES THE KNICKS DID WIN WRE MINUTESFROM MORE LOSES BECAUSE MELO DOESN’T STOP SHOOTING!!!! AND HE MISSES WAY MORE THAN HE MAKES!!! LAST I CHECKED DANTONI WAS THE COACH….HE NEEDS TO GROW A SET AND TELL MELON TO STOP SHOOOTIN SO MUCH!!! AND NY CANT TRADE MELON CAUSE TEAMS SEE HE’S A TEAM OBLITORATOR( A LA SKIP BAYLESS)……………ISIAH THOMAS MESSED UP THE TEAM FOR YEARS……DONNIE WALSH REPAIRED THINGS IN A SHORT TIME……..(STUPID) MANAGEMENT WENT AFTER MELON LIKE HE WAS JORDAN, (WHICH DONNIE WAS PROBABLY AGAINST……AFTER RESTORING RESPECT TO A TEAM THAT WAS A JOKE) THEN THEY LET DONNIE GO?!?!?!?! FOR WHAT WE HAVE NOW!?!? LET BILLLUPS GO FOR CHANDLER??? ISIAH THOMAS IS RUNNING THINGS BEHIND THE SCENES……..WHATS HAPPENING IS ALL TOO FAMILIAR……
Melo is NOT shooting to much he is doing what he was expected to do when they signed him he just has to start making those shots. this situation is from a whole team standpoint. Amare is playing down, they need a pg, and their defense has been terrible. I believe Melo, Amare, or tyson has to go for a true pg that knows how to set and keep the tone of a game. That could be Baron Davis which would be great because they will be even better with everyone but we have to wait to see how that works out.
I Agree with the many who have said you can’t build a team around ‘Melo, he is the focal point of the offence (or wants to be) at all times, trade him for lowry scola williams (and whoever else to make it work).
Need to Trade, Davis, Chandler & a Pick for Nash and Lopez
Maybe Orlando would take Melo for Dwight Howard with a few other pieces. Just think, Howard, Stoudemire, Chandler on the front line and find a way to get Nash. Stoudemire would average over 30 pts a game with two great defenders.
And 3 players playing PF/C would coexist howexactly? You don’t think much do you? Dwight and Stoudamire play the same offense and are used to getting ball much. Howard is simply Chandler and stoudamire put together. Smart move would be to trade one of them of DH not Melo you idiot. This team needs a player that can score when it’s necesary like in the clutch and STAT and Dwight are not those guys.
as the magic front office you would be insane to make that trade! dwight is the franchise player on a winning franchise, melo is the scorer on a struggling franchise. dwight for melo isnt even a good trade let alone dwight + pieces for melo. Also stoudemire’s numbers already prove he plays worse on offense when chandler is on the floor because the lane is clogged already. Having 2 low post players at centre and a driving power forward like stoudemire would not work, the key is too busy.
Also free agents cant be traded till after march first.
looking to get deron williams would be a good pick up but mello made it very clear last season that he didnt want to play in new jersey so the nets front office would most likely reject this trade.
FIRST OFF THE KNICKS HAS AN ATHLETIC AND TALENTED TEAM WITH OFFENSE FROM MELO AND AMARI AND DEFENSE FROM CHANDLER AND ECT. HOWEVER WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DEFENSE OF THE KNICKS IT IS OUT OF ORDER. MIKE D’ANTONI NEEDS TO BE FIRED. WHEN HE WAS WITH THE SUNS THEY WERE AN OFFENSE POWER HOUSE BUT WHEN DEFENSE NEED TO BE PLAYED TO SEAL A WIN IT WAS NOT PRESENT, AND RIGHT NOW THAT IS WHAT WRONG WITH THE KNICKS. THERE OFFENSE ISNT REALLY GREAT EITHER BUT IT COULD BE. WITH MELO AT THE 3 AMARI AT THE 4 AND CHANDLER AT THE 5 AND A OK POINT GUARD THIS TEAM WILL SEE WINS. IN A NUT SHELL FIRED D’ANTONI, HIRE JEFF VAN GUNDY FOR THE SECOND TIME!
what are you idiots saying
You idiots think its so easy to just go and get a player…lol…get rid of D’antoni his system is not working with that personel…they need a pg…there problem fixed. Every guard on that team is terrible…Knicks front office is the worst in the NBA…its like that yankees spending more than anyone and still cant win.
In my opinion it needs one more offseason to make the Knicks able to compete with other championship candidates. NY has 5 point guards and no bench player who can bring solid energy or hard defense from the bench. They are almost all 8th or 9th men.So in the coming free agency fitting role players must be added. Currently I think it could be a possibility to wait until we have got an impression how Baron Davis fits in the team. Then I think Walker has to get more minutes an Shumpert should shoot less and come from the bench.
The defense must be improved and D’Antoni has to introduce a clear structure which makes Melo less shooting and STAT playing more effective. The only trade which would make sense is to reduce the number of ineffective point guards and get instead a hard one on one defender like Stevenson who is able to defend SG’s as well as SF’s, and a real playmaker. Personally I don’t believe in D’Antonis coaching system, because only hard TEAM DEFENSE wins titles. Besides I think Harrellson can be developed as Mozgov, but he must earn his minutes behind Chandler who is a good acquisition, but only in a strong team defense.
I am sure Melo will do everything for the team and same STAT will do!
GO MELO, GO KNICKS!!!
Kurt come on…you think Dwight would take a back seat to Amare? Really?
knicks need to trade for nash im sure the rookie shumpert would be a good trade because the suns are looking for youth or even toney douglas but we defiantly dont need both plus bibby and baron. Melo and amari need to run the pick and roll much more than they do it should be there top offensive play since thats our best players strong point. maybe a trade for a soild sg that can play good defense would complement tyson much better. someone like a stefolsha or ron artest. just need a lock down first player. not looking to score but can score when open
It is to early to panic. The Knicks need to improve their defense with more energy and learn to play help defense with everyone being on a string so the speak.
As far as the offense is concerned, you have one of the greatest scoring talents in Anthony, you have one of the greatest power
forwards in Amar’e, Landry Fields palyed well last season.
You just need to run your pffense, limit you turn overs and trust your team mates. If I was the coach I would go back and look at
film of games that we looked great in and model the future games based on when we did well.
Thank you.
Okayy. I still blame walsh for trading away Danillo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgozv and not re-siging Al Harrignton. They got Carmelo Anhtony in exchange and Chauncey Billups ( which they could of used badly at this point, but nooo, it had to be Tyson Chandler, who without a point guard is useless.) Danillo Galinari, Al Harrington and Wilson Chandler are guys who each can score 20 points “consistantly” with great shooting percentages, who are not ball hogs, who are clutch shooters, play with a team, aren’t media frenzy and the nuggets got the good deal in that one. The knicks got carmelo anthony. Whoo isn’t a superstar. He can score 20-30 inconsistantly with poor shooting percentages, and the Knicks got robbed of all the their good talent and 5 years of hard work for one, lousy, “All-Star.” Mike D’Antoni isn’t the one to blame, they just don’t have enough talent on the team now, since they lost a whole team for Melo and A’mare and Tyson ( who again, are useless with a Steve Nash or Chauncey Billups)
Not such a bad concept… Nash needs to contend in the twilight of his career? Put him in a Knick uniform and you’ll have a contender alright…
When an explosive player like Stoudemire doesn’t take a shot in the 4th or the overtimes against Denver, you know Carmelo is a ball hog and it almost seems like D’Antoni just doesn’t want anyone but Anthony to take shots. They should’ve stuck with Felton, Chandler and Gallo!
What we need to do is fire Mike (1st Step) , 2nd would be to stop running iso’s all the time with the ball in Melo’s hand. Its getting repetitive, he gets the ball, dribbles once and takes a jumper. Defenders are beginning to read that play more ofter. We need him to begin to get Amare and Tyson involved, since Melo can run an offense as good as any other top player in the league and try to adapt to the 2-3 Zone defense. With Melo, Amare, and Tyson, i honestly believe that would be the answer to the defensive problems instead of the Man defense, and quit switching on every since pick the opposing team does.
ALTHOUGH AMARI MAY BE A GREAT POWER FORWARD HE DOESNT WANT TO PLAY IN THE POST ANY MORE THE MORE I WATCH THE KNICKS THE MORE I SEE AMARI SHOOTING JUMPSHOTS INSTEAD OF BANGING IN THE POST EITHER MELO OR AMARI NEED TO START HITTING THE BLOCK IT WOULD ALSO PUT TEAMS IN FOUL TROUBLE THAT COULD PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN THE FOURTH QUARTER WHEN THINGS USUALLY GO TERRIBLE FOR US
melo has done nothing: no rings, no mvp’s, no trips to the finals. just a good offensive player who takes a lot of ill-advised shots. granted he does always rank in the top 5 in scoring, but at what cost? poor shooting % thats what. stop defending this guy. he’ s good, not great, and will one day retire with over 20,000 points and ZERO rings to show for it. good job melo, way to be mediocre.
I think what the Knicks need right now is a Motivator and a Facilitator, he maybe a Coach or a Point Guard. Clearly this Knicks team doesn’t co-exist on the Court and Melo is used to taking so many shots because of his Denver and Syracuse Days and you can’t simply just take that away from him. They just need to run good offense for him and not just give him the ball and expect him to do something great. I have to be honest thought, He’s not a very good defender and he needs to work on that a lot.
Mickael Pietrus, Jason Maxiell, Steve Nash ALL FREE AGENTS WE NEED TO MAKE A PUSH HELP OUR BENCH AND PROVIDE SOME DEFENSE AND A FLOOR GENERAL. WE CANT GET RID OF ANTONIO THAT EASY SO WE MINDS WELL GIVE HIM HIS POINT GUARD. SEE WHAT HE IS MADE OF
I think it’s hilarious that the Knicks are struggling and the Nuggets are playing great TEAM basketball; something that the Knicks will never experience with their current lineup. “Who wouldn’t want Melo and Stoudemire on the floor at the same time?” as Melo put it after the trade. By the look-of-things, I sure wouldn’t!
Go Nuggets!
Letting go of BILLUPS messed everything up for the Knicks…look what he has done to the Clippers so far? An immediate impact…even when CP3 is sidelined.
Pause the video on with the game recap on 0:57 and on 2:13 and look at the guy who is all alone on the tree point line… This is the problem:)
could’ve, shoudl’ve,would’ve…….can’t blame dolan…he just gave the fans what they asked for…..melo….we have to be thankful we have two superstars in our team in melo and amare…..other teams like sixers are desperate to have one….they just need some time…they’re gonna be alright…
The Knicks need something. And its 2 things. A point guard. Has anyone watched billups this year? He’s really good. A terrible move to let him go. Even though its understandable why. So they have to deal with this until they can get a point guard capable of running the dantone system. This team does not run anything. All they do is throw up bad 3′s and stand and watch anthony just like all the paying fans. With a team like this. They need a coach that can handle the personalities on this team and control the ball hogging of anthony. The team was great before the trade. And should have never made it. Typical knicks..
I prefer the underdog , that can “upset the Miami Heat” type of Kinicks Team.
Amare is the Heart and soul of this Team.. remember 1 or 2 seasons ago
w/ Felton and Gallinari around, watching the Knick was like watching ROCKY Balboa getting ready for the championship match!
You knew there was somthing BIG going to happen….
But now, man..whew!
I love Melo, dont get me wrong.
Youre right man…the substance is lost. The spirit too. Its more shine now. Melos energy is weird…dont know if a team with him will ever win a ring! If he works his a.. off for defense maybe they get one. but hes not a leader, Amare is more of that!
Who the Knicks need is Sam Mitchell!!!!!
i think knicks have to find a real pg to run the team shumpert douglas is a good player but they’re are not a real pg, the knicks don’t a scorer they had lots of scorer out there, they a player who knows how the game and knows how to share the ball so the to all stars will complement each other…andre miller or a jarret jack would be a good fit for knicks
fire coach mike and hire jerry sloan.
Am I the only one that thinks that New York was a better overall team BEFORE the Melo trade? They were much more balanced, had ONE legit star (I don’t know why everyone thinks you need 2 or 3 nowadays), a deep bench, and good outside shooting.
Bring back JEFF VAN GUNDY i say
First of all melo and amare cannot play defence they rely on team defence. All they need is a better coach and they will fire this coach if there not winning games
The best option is to get STEVE NASH coz he know’s this system by D’Antoni. But at this time, it’s almost impossible to get NASH. correct me if I’m wrong, NASH is still one of the best PG in the NBA right now.
You cannot blame melo or amare, the truth is the KNICKS badly need a good PG.
Thye need a decent PG nash, rondo, williams or felton would do.
Melo shoots to much..I’m the only guy in the NBA who should be shooting 30 times a game.Phil just called and said he will coach The Knicks by next year
BRING AI ( ALLEN IVERSON ) in NEW YORK…and im sure that will be a hell of a TEAM that will dominate in the NBA….sure of that…..
Melo is terrible!!! TERRIBLE!!!! As far as the problems on the court go, he is 100% the problem!!! He has no understanding of the game of basketball and never will. NONE!!! How can a player be this far along in his career and wondering what he’s doing wrong? Basketball moron, that’s how!!! If he gets hurt and can’t play for a while, Knicks will get better and win more games with the exact same players they have now. If that happened, he still wouldn’t get that he’s the problem. The other night he was taunting his defender with “you can’t stop me, I can’t be stopped” while his team was losing by 20 points. PATHETIC!!! They stand NO CHANCE with him on the court. I don’t care what point guard comes to NY, he will be ruined just like Stoudamire, Chandler and the rest of the Knicks players have been ruined by playing with him. He’s a CANCER that needs to be wiped out. Outside the court, Knicks ownership/management is the worst in the league. An absolute joke!!! Maybe, just maybe, Michael Jordan is a worse owner. It’s too close to call. Sorry.
you people are crazy!!!! knicks coach isnt the problem and sure isnt melo!!!! reason melo shoot to much is because he is trying to win so hard but u cannot blaim him.his team has no depht at all!!!! and truthfully who else other than melo or sometimese amare is gonna give u at least 25 or more on a daily basis? no one!!!! i say trade who u can to get either another star like amare for another star or a rising star and trade some of them other players for some good role players so melo can sit down and get a break sometimes…u cannot trade melo for anyone right now and why would u? melo is top 3 scorer in the lg and top 10 active player so clearly u dont trade him,u trade whats around him and build around him point blank, everything else is non sense
rondo is coming up for free agency he would be perfect except with mike coaching he doesnt know how to make plays
XNBAer,
No truer words were ever uttered.
The Knicks gave up Gallo, Felton, Mozgov. Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, 2 first round picks, and Eddy Curry’s 11.3m cap space to get Melo. Of course they also got Billups, but they amnestied him and had to pay Washington to take Turiaf to get Tyson Chandler.
They could have just as easily kept their old squad, let Curry’s contract expire, moved Turiaf the way they did and signed Chandler. Then they would have Chandler, Amare, Gallo, Wilson Chandler, and Felton starting with Fields, Douglas, Shumpert, Randolph, Harrelson etc.. off the bench, That team would run rings around the current one and they’d still have their draft picks and upside from the development of Gallo, Wilson Chandler, Fields, Douglas, Randolph, Shumpert, and Harrelson.
Terrible deal for NY
The team needs true and positive leadership, should be a veteran player with big character or a new coach that can bring to the players new motivation through the work , defensive effort and team game.
We’ll never know who really pulled the trigger on the Melo deal (Donnie Walsh or Dolan with input from Isiah), but IMO it’s going to go down as one of the worst in NBA history.
Trade for Nash! He’s not worth anything at all, the Suns need to ditch him, and he can lead the Knicks to the playoffs no problem. The guy’s a little old, but he needs a ring before he retires anyway.
Nash+Melo+Amare+Chandler=Unstoppable.
get rid of carmelo
Knicks are cursed no matter how much talent they have they’ll never be good
It’s not Melo or Amare or Tyson It’s the fact that the Knicks need a change in Philosophy. D Antoni Is a west coast run and Gun Coach. That philosophy has never worked. It works in NBA Jam videos but serves NO purpose. It does not work in the Pros. people that don’t understand the game have been trying since the 70′s there is a reason why Paul Westphal (As much as I loved him when he Played) can’t even keep a gig in Sacremento or at a major college program.
Run and Gun is Not a plus its a deficientcy
Running uptempo has a purpose in the confines of an overall offensive stategy but as a way to run a team Defense Ball control and distribution balanced scoring will always be the way of champions.
I get tired of these come and go NEW Way to play the Game types. There’s a reason why the Giants are going to the Super Bowl. But thats another topic for another forum.
The Knicks need to find a coach that can make it work. Styles change, players change but the GAME remains the same. THAT’S WHY WE STILL LOVE THE GAME.
Okay, stepping down off of the soap box …….. Sorry Guys
The problem with the knicks lies solely with MIKE D. He has no idea what he is doing as a coach except to run up and down on the court and shoot with no defense whatsoever…he needs to be fired like yesterday….melo and amare can work….we just need a coach who can do just that….
D’Antoni is no coach. He has talent at his disposal but has failed to use them in the right way or get the best out of them so he has to go. I knew Mark Jackson should have been given the chance over him at the time but that’s in the past now so we look forward as there as a few good unemployed coaches that are far better than D’Antoni.
coach K can coach a bunch of all stars … he can make a difference in NYC
bring in Steve Nash now to NY Knicks. Whatever it takes and whatever the cost.
As a Knicks fan who did not want this trade to happen in the first place, I say to the rest of you that you had this coming. Looking back at last years team and watching us give up the “next Durk” in Danillo, as well as a great hussle player in Wilson Chandler, and promising big guy Mosgov, I hope that you now all see that we did not need a superstar like Melo to be a contender, all we need was to further develope what young and great talent we already had.
they shouldnt have traded felton or have gotten tyson and melo
This NY team needs a different caching. Triangle offense will do.
keep tyson and amare and d’antoni then trade melo for steve nash and see the knicks in finals. i bet you melo cant carry the team. he is overated and very inconsistent.
keep tyson, amare and D’antoni then trade melo for steve nash and see the knicks in the finals. melo is overated and very inconsistent. melo doesnt have a chance!!!!
The Knicks need only one thing!!! Carlos Arroyo and Im going to say why Carlos…….If you put the Puertorrican team to play the Knicks The puertorrican team will kick their …… tha way Carlos Arroyo distributes the game with Renaldo Balkman on the court is awesome!! Take a moment and watch in youtube the Puertorrican national Team videos… Thx!!
All the Nugget fans that are on here posting really miss Melo and wish he was still there. Denver tried their hardest to keep him there and waited until the deadline to unload him. If you guys didn’t want him than why do that? A player like that comes along only once in a while. And if you think the Nuggets are going to get past the 1st round of the playoffs, keep dreaming! There was no way that anyone was going to get Melo as a FA. No one is that stupid to let a player of that caliber get away for nothing. Lebron made sure of that with his really bad “decision.” One of the stipulations of trading for Melo was that he sign that extension or no deal. He was not signing that to go to NJ. He wanted NYC and he got what he wished for. And from all the players that they got for Melo only Gallo and Timofey is still on their roster. Big Will is gone to china and Felton is in Portland. And if you think Gallo is going to be better than Melo than I gotta a bridge in Brooklyn I wanna sell you. When Gallo was in NYC he said it himself that he was never going to be a superstar but just a very good player and that’s what you got, so be happy. No need for the Knicks to panic. We are missing a General to run the team and that will come when Baron gets healthy. And remember Donnie Walsh signed Raymond Felton to a two year contract that expires at the end of this year. So we can get Raymond Felton back as a FA or even Wilson Chandler. He doesn’t want to play in Denver because they will never be better than the Thunder, Grizzlies, Lakers, Mavericks or Portland! We just gotta sit tight and let things unfold. Hey it could be worse we could have landed Lebron whos going to choke in the playoffs and finals for the rest of his life. The Heat fans will only have bragging rights in the regular season and never when it counts.
Mike Fratello should never never be an option. That dude can not coach. He is turrible (Barkley). Our only two options should be,if we get rid of Dantoni, Van Gundy and Phil Jackson! But I think Mike deserves a chance he sat through some serious BS and deserves a fair chance with a complete roster.
The knicks should trade melo for deron williams then trade amare for dwight then trade chandler for whatever they can get SG SF PF whatever they can get to go along good with dwight and deron the their problems will be solved.
If we all go back to the beginning (for me at least) was the late 80′s through the 90′s knicks with Riley paving the way. I only say this because it could have been possible if a power struggle was stopped way back then when PAT himself wanted total control of the knicks like he has now in Miami. All this could have been solved long ago, and it may have been possible for the knicks to have won a championship with Ewing on the team back then, and or today it could have been LeBron, and Wade in the Big Apple we will NEVER know now the out come…BUT unlike many i can NEVER give up on the Knicks today. Reasons YES we have Mello, Stat and Chandler, BUT we also have Tony, Iman, and when he comes back Baron Davis. The big picture is NO ONE has to take the task on ALONE. Specially Mello…..i see the frustration in his face nightly at the games. STAT has to come back to the light himself and step up and STOP COMPLAINING and getting T’s for dumb reasons. Knicks need to play there game and stop playing the Other teams games. WHEN i see BALL movement great things happen. When Melo stops the play and tries the 1 on 1 approach the rest of the team just stands there expecting him to make the shot. MOVE AROUND GUYS!!!!! Melo has great game IQ he knows that if he can’t take the shot he will FIND you! The man had been a PG at one point of his career so he will be able to get the job done if not scoring himself but helping and allowing another team member to put the ball in the basket. When melo is Doubled up anyone else is free to make some moves. PLAY YOUR INDIVIDUAL GAMES and learn off that.
PS…i feel as if knicks loos when Walt Clyde Fraiser says the words “Perculating”..hahah!
amre stoudemire cant get the job done for the knicks… it doesnt matter how many big men will be added to new york’s roster, if nash is still in phoenix… the knicks will likely fail every season… right mike?
Is there something going on internally that is preventing the Knicks from excelling? Possibly. Is the coaching staff to blame here? Maybe. This is something that non of us outside the franchise can know for sure. The one thing that is in fact clear to me is that the talent is there, but there seems to be an issue with this teams dedication, and lack of coming together. All this talk about trading Melo and Amare is entirely not needed! Here is my take on what each key player (Starters) should focus on to reach the success they seek.
Carmelo Anthony – I have nothing but respect for the fellow. I mean to come out and question his game in order to try and better the team is worthy of recognition. If anything, I believe he needs to commit to playing better defense, instead of criticizing/questioning his own shot attempts. Great scorers will always take more shots, but HE NEEDS TO COMMIT TO NOTHING OTHER THAN CHANGING HIS VIEW ON DEFENSE. Dive for that ball, nag opponents, steal the ball, block shots, put hands in opponents face etc etc. If he commits to this, he will become an even greater player than what he already is.
Amare Stoudemire – His explosiveness is recognized around the league and its fans, but there are some concerns here. His defense is by far the worst of all Knick players, at least for this season. He has the tendency to stop playing momentarily after an opponent makes him look bad, instead of battling back immediately. Man look, if you are reading this, forget how you look on the court! You of all Knick players need to dedicate yourself to the defense end more so than any other. Also, if I were in your shoes, considering that you are now in the power forward position, I would be shooting outside perimeter shots for ever in practice just to better my outside shot. You can do it man, but you have to dedicate yourself. Your inside explosiveness will always be there, as this a god given talent you possess (natural talent), but to become a better player, you have to work on your outside perimeter shooting, and your DEFENSE. Dedication is the key!
Tyson Chandler – Your defense and dedication should be imitated by all Knick players. No question about that, but there is a definite need for improvement of the offensive end. I can clearly see the possibility in you to become a more productive scorer. If anything, you can try and replicate the explosiveness of Amare on the inside (last season) and become a great offensive player. Your defense needs no adjusting, so there is no need to focus on bettering that (this is your god given talent), but your driving to the basket and offense can surely use much improvement.
Laundry Fields – Your dedication is clearly there when it comes to defense and even your offense, despite your offense struggling every now and then. I have very little criticism for you simply because your effort is there every night. My only concern and advice if for you is to try and find the confidence you had last year. If you can somehow find this within you, the Knicks will be a better team for sure.
Iman Shumpert – You are a natural great player with lots of potential ahead of you. But for some reason, you have come down from the level in which you started playing in the beginning of the season. This once again makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes in the locker room and in team practices? Please don’t let the others around you bring you down from that explosive level you possess. If anything, continue to show it “on and off” the court so that your teammates can feed off it.
As for the bench, i can see potential there as well. My only gripe is that you guys need to find your role as reserves, and become more productive in scoring.
In conclusion, the one thing I can say for sure, is that if the effort improves, even if you lose a game, the fans wont boo you. The fans boo the Knicks because we can see that the effort is just not there. Play hard, dedicate yourselves as a team, and don’t give up. Just my take on things
how about trading something for something or else, get the best of what we have..?
B.Diddy is still coming, game time later, let’s just wait what happens, and maybe we should take into consideration the playing time of balkman, wlaker, douglas, and other reserves, for what we know, knicks pay them to play, so why let them sit? just try to put your trust into combinations with melo and amare on the floor, or even 1 or 2 of our big three (tyson, melo, amare) on the floor and not to let them play at the same time the whole game, we have luxury on balkman, harellson, and walker, what else do we have on douglas and jeffries? c’mon man, don’t give up on this, coach has something to do with this but let us just put our trust on what we still have not done.just give it a try.
The Knicks obviously aren’t just going through the same things that the Heat went through last year it’s way more than that. I see nothing wrong with the whole Melo + STAT tandem…or the team as far as their personel goes. Their defense on the other hand is completely abysmal, and their fourth quarter execution leaves a lot to be desired also. Carmelo is doing what he was brought there to do…score. I say just fire D’Antoni, simple as that, he’s running a college offense and a middle school defense.
Whos team is this ?? Melos or Stat ??
When there is an understanding of who is tha Captain (not co-captain).
Then the NYK will have some greatness moving foward until then.
Whos team is this ??

there is one solution that would make the knicks a top contender, his name is deron williams, hes a free agent after this season, and seeing how bad the nets are looking with trying to get dwight, deron can come to the knicks.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
They need Deron williams or even Rondo. Also they need a legit 2, who can shoot three like ray allen.
PG:Williams or Rondo
SG:Ray/Fields
SF:Carmelo/Iman
PF:Amare
C: Tyson/Amare
NYK have no $$$$ left for any top notch players.
Deron Williams or Rondo are not playing for free.
yea I said it.
Hello folks, I’m actually a Denver fan here so I’ve watched Melo his entire career. I’ve seen a few Knick games on TV as I keep a small eye on Melo’s progression…(or regression?)
In any case, the problem that the Knicks have is really plain and simple. Its not the JUST the coach and its not JUST Melo. The problem is all of your pieces simply don’t fit well together. Amare and Melo absolutely do NOT belong on the same team. That’s like having Chris Paul AND Steve Nash on your team. While it make look exciting on paper, the reality is one player is probably going to have to sacrifice a part of their game. That in effect makes the point of having both players pointless!
I remember watching Stat when he played for Phoenix and he used to flat out dominate games on the offensive end. Dude was/is a beast. The trade for Melo absolutely robbed him of his place on the team. As a result, he hasn’t been the player that he is capable of being. Interesting enough, you guys didn’t need Melo’s scorer before the trade (you had that in Stat). But, that is all that Melo gives you besides “Star Attraction”.
The second issue is you have no point guard who is able to facilitate the offense and get players their shots. The sad part is, I’m not sure how much of a difference it would make even if you had a decent point guard because the pieces that your team is working with simply do not mesh well. I’m not sure that a Nash or Chris Paul can come in and immediately make everything all better.
Now, this isn’t a shot at your team, its actually a shot at your front office. I believe the owners of the Knicks made a business decision to trade for Melo. It certainly wasn’t a basketball decision. If it were, they would have either waited until the FA period and tried to sign Melo or held out for a trade that gave up less pieces. But I’ll be honest with you, when it comes to owning a business, the bottom line in any business is always money as everyone knows. I get the sense that the owner was willing to sacrifice wins for the money that Melo can bring to that franchise (and the owners pockets). In other words, winning ain’t always everything, but to some people, money is.
Last but not least, I do have to give some blame to the coach. When Melo was in Denver, we still had winning records and in fact made the playoffs ever year that Melo was here. We definitely underachieved in some seasons, but George Karl was at least able to develop a system that worked and produced success. Even when we had AI playing with Melo (another odd pairing), we still had winning seasons. I believe that d’antoni simply hasn’t yet figured out how to work with the pieces that he has. While I don’t believe that d’antoni is a bad coach, I do believe that he is the type of coach that needs players to make HIM better rather than being the type of coach that makes his players better.
In any case, this is just an objective post coming from someone who used to follow Melo when he was in Denver. Everything you guys are seeing in NY is exactly what he gave us here in Denver. The difference is he had a system built around his talents here. The system in NY isn’t built around his talents yet, so I think you are seeing the results of that. I’m sure things will change, but I have a feeling its going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Simple solution… wait for Steve Nash and Grant Hill to become free agents at the end of this year, and sign them for the midlevel exception… Nash and Hill have maybe 2 more years in them to try and get a ring before their bodies give out…
Otherwise… Try to trade Amare and Tyson for Dwight and Jameer and probably a throw-in to even up the numbers… Jason Richardson, maybe?
Or even better… do both. Why am I helping the Knicks though???
I agree with some of these bloggers that the Knicks lack a leader at point guard! They desperately need someone to run that team! Look at what Chris Paul did for the Clippers! Unfortunately I dont know if they have the funds to acquire a good one! They gave up too much to acquire Anthony, that’s for sure! The Melo-Stoudemire chemistry just doesn’t seem to fit! I am a Laker fan, but I still would like to see the Knicks become competitive! As I would the Lakers! I just hope the Lakers don’t give up too much to acquire a key player! Such as Dwight Howard!
