  1. Kel says:

The only upset I see happening is Portland over the Mavericks at this point. Experience counts. Boston is still the team to beat in the East. In the West, you can’t ignore LA or SA. But the dark horses are OKC and Dallas.

  2. KarlJohn says:

    My prediciton.
SASvsGrizz=SAS experience will be their weapon
LAvsHornet=NO will have a good shooting % on a slacking Lakers
PORTvsDALL=Dall will take advantage on the outside shooting and also in the inside
OKCvsDEN=OKC will dominate under and outside
CHIvsIND=CHI is looking strong with Rose on
MIAvsIND=MIA will advance with their big 3’s skills
NYKvsBOS=BOS experience on playing in playoffs and aggressiveness will takeover
ATLvsORL=ATL is more aggressive and shoots good basket

    Im not that Karl.XP

  3. doodles says:

i hope dallas will win the crown.. thier eager this time..

  4. ANDY says:

Why do stats really matter? If you really care about stats, then you should put each playoff teams’ record against all the other playoff teams.

  5. Karl says:

    @ Think April 14, 2011 at 1:46 pm.

Wtf?? Shaq finished 2nd in the MVP voting in the 2006?? Are you high or something? he wasnt even in the MVp conversation.

  6. Nuggets Fan says:

ok, from my prediction for the 1st round playoffs

    MEM vs SAS = SAS
*SAS will def. win because they are #1-2 offensive team in the league, plus they play good at home and #1 seat, they will take care of their business.

    NOH vs LAL = LAL
    * LAL will win this one cause Kobe still there! lol j/k.. they are the old champs… only CP wont help anything much.

    POR vs DAL = 50-50%
    * DAL could be having a tough time…. POR has been playing well… I supported POR for this one… MAVs been playing bad lately.

    DEN vs OKC = 50-50%
    * Since im the nuggets fan, have to support my home team… but the Thunders, they are good! Durant,Russel,Perkin,Greene…… this gonna be a close game…

    IND vs CHI = CHI
*CHI for this one…. #1 seat in the East

    PHI vs MIA = MIA
*MIA = James Wade Bosh equal win

    NYK vs BOS = BOS
*Im not the Melo haters…. im going for BOS this one because they are a better team…. NYK got their 6 or 7 winning streak because they played against Cleveland, Toronto, Nets, Philly, Indy and they got lucky with the Magics for tripping Richardson with no foul and the Ref called Howard the 6th foul…

    ATL vs ORL = 50-50%
*4th and 5th seats always been a good game to watch…. I have no idea who will win this one

  7. Tenki says:

Miami has one big advantage in the playoffs: DWYANE WADE.

  8. ANDY says:

  12. killajo says:

i cant stop laughing reading some comments, im a fan of a team that plays both defensive and offensive. i think the best team on paper (OFFENSIVE) is miami come on guys lebron james d wade are 2 of the best players in the league and with chris bosh they could be very lethal there is no doubt about it. this being said i am not a miami fan infact id rate miami way down on the list, and id be fried to see them win the cup. i’d love to see sixers beat heat, i know i know……..but anything is possible….keep the faith lol…. i feel spurs is a damm boring team with great players….okc is doing really well and have got their groove goin.

id love to see the lakers in the finals cause they are my team…i will not talk trash and say lakers will win…. anything can happen in a ball game..yeah i do strongly feel they will win but lets jus wait and see.
the way i see this is

western conf : LAL OR OKC
eastern conf : BOS OR MIA
FINALS : I HOPE LAL IF NOT THEN I HOPE ITS OKC

dammm excited for the playoffs..its gonna be fullll power

  13. LA3PeaTbaby.. says:

    1st round (WEST) predictions :

SAS vs. MEM – SAS in 5 or 6
LAL vs. NOH – LAL sweep
    DAL vs. POR – DAL/POR in 7 <——(can't w8 for this series)
OKC vs. DEN – OKC in 6

    1st round (EAST) predictions :

CHI vs. IND – CHI sweep
MIA vs. PHI – MIA in 5
BOS vs. NYK – BOS in 7
ORL vs. ATL – ORL in 5

I think in west it may go down to LAL vs. OKC/POR and in the east… I wish that my predictioins are wrong because I want MIA vs. NYK. but I think it may go down to CHI vs. MIA/BOS.. btw, I'm also a knick fan.

Blazers are such a scary team to play in the first round. There so deep. I feel bad for the mavs. I just hope the spurs win!!
But they probably won’t, my guess would be either bulls or lakers…..
I just wished them blazers were in portland maine so they could give those eastern conference teams a tough time in the first round.

  20. D Sands says:

i am really tired of ppl puttin lebron on this pedistol when he was in clevand he had a great team stop saying the man didnt had no help he had more than what wade had in 2006 come on man. and you guys are crazy if you think the bulls arent coming out of the east

    • Anthony_20 says:

How bout the Spurs???? they win 61 games have a deep bench. Dont they deserve to go to the nba finals?

      • 3peater says:

remember 2001 where the LAL swept everyone in the west and eventually won the finals 4-1 at the expense of the sixers. in the regular season, LAL lost all 4 games vs SAS. but the latter was swept in the playoff. so playoffs and regular season are two different things. its when we level up. teams who cant just go home!

      • Mariano Camara_Arg says:

Do you think that the OKCLAHOMA `ll be beat SA in semifinals in a seven game series ?? Absolutely It s imposible… SA have a good bench, rotation, intensity at defense, and players with experience.

  25. Miami Heat!!! says:

MIAMI HEAT 2010-2011 Champions Lebron James MVP!!!

  26. Ok, NBA says:

The 2010-2011 Bulls remind me of the 2008-2009 Cavs – The Bulls will NOT make it to the finals this year.

  27. Spurs2011NBAChamps says:

SPURS NBA CHAMPS!!! WE WILL STOP THE LAKERS FROM THE 3 PEAT JUST LIKE WE DID 9 or 8 YEARS AGO!!! SPURS VS CELTICS IN THE FINALS! SPURS IN 7! GO SPURS GO!!!!

  29. TheProfeshonal says:

These stats are just for stat junkies. The Bulls have the best superstar playing right now, partially because of his team. The Heat have the best team in the east. (Boston is arguable, but they beat people when they had Perkins, since they gave him up, the D has been diminished Orlando doesn’t play defense, New York will be better next year. Really, it seems like CHI, my hometown team, will play MIA in the east finals. I”m pulling for both of those teams, I like the big 3 in MIA, and obviously CHI. People can hate all they want, but in reality, the paper is showing that MIA will face CHI, and with that, I’m picking MIA in the finals, because if Rose gets shut down, then there is no one else that can take over the game. (Oh and he will get shut down by some team for 4 of 7 games and if he doesn’t and wins it all, then my goodness!)

  30. rockhard says:

whats the deal with that stat about the heat damn they ofto look for one of the worse to showcase about THEM a mean the only negative comment about a team SHOWN!!!! OOH WELL I ONLY WANT SAY TWO WORDS WHEN PLAYOFFS TIME START TO ALL THE HATERS HEART ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!! GO HEATS

  31. Mariano Camara_Arg says:

I think that the best team in this playoffs `ll be the LA lakers, They have players playing for a long time together with a same coach. The starting lineup is the best of the league,in defense and in offense.
I saw that a lot of people of this forum coments or are in disagree of a lot of stats post by Sekou, i think that this stats let it be interesting and very important for this instance: •19%
“The Heat shot 5-for-26 (19 percent) in the final 30 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime with the score tied or when trailing by 1-3 points.” Despite, i saw a little improvement at the end of the season in this aspect.
We have to be carefully with my SA spurs and with the most smart player of the NBA MANU GINOBILI.
Listen or read carefully this list that was i made:
Numbers of rings in every teams. I `ll going to write the 8 teams of the semifinals in each conferences…
    SA: 10 (TD, MG and TP)+4 (GP)=14
    LA: 22 aprox (KB, DF, LO, PG, AB,RA, SB, LW) + 13 (PJ)=35 !
    DM:0
    DEN OR OKL ??= 1 K.Perkins.
    CHI=0
    MIA=1
    BOS= 9
    ORL=0
    NY= 1 of Billups.

    LA VS SA 62%-38%
    CHI VS BOS 45%-55%.

LA LAKERS NBA CHAMPIONS 10/11. Por lo menos asi lo veo yo.

    • Mariano Camara_Arg says:

      John schuhmann
      I am sorry

    • TheProfeshonal says:

you’re basing this off of rings? all the past rings have nothing to do with this years playoff winner.

      • Mariano Camara_Arg says:

Basing not, but i think that is important and the ball is more heavy for players than other with less experience.
You should be a fan of a heat absolutely… Good luck with the lie !! MIAMI HEAT.

    • Hector says:

Look bro Lakers are slackin and over rated it doesnt matter how many rings a team has… thats in the past…. sure they might make it to the finals but im not sure they can walk away with the tittle this year sorry

    • OKCKD35 says:

RESEARCH YOUR FACTS OKC=2 NAZR MOHAMMED WITH THE SPURS THERE GUY!

  32. Abdul Kayani says:

@think. LeBron is already dominating the league. He has about 3 most point per game, and is the closest nba player currently to average a triple double. And at the end of the day LeBron is human. Magic had so many role players on their team. Dwight was too good in the paint, jameer nelson played good, bench played good, and tec. Boston Celtics had 3 really good players, not to mention on of the best point guards today in Rajon Rondo. And who did LeBron have? Mo williams who averaged a little more than 12 points in those playoffs and game and Antwan Jamison, who wasn’t much help, no disrespect to him. So as you see, spening majority of his years averaging more than 25 ppg, 6 apg, 6rpg, and only going to Finals once, get irrating. If the Cavs could’ve added a better bench and some better players that can pick up the slack when lebron “chokes”, he would’ve considered staying. These cavs fans don’t care if LeBron wins or not. They just wanted him to spent the rest of his career playing for their team, and not win, because they just wanted joy of having a good regualr season. which they will never have again.

  33. Halo 623 says:

All this talk about lebron and them heat winning a championship it aint gone happen yea they may be wining games rite now but its all a show as soon as them playoffs start they just gone sink again. And Even if they did make it to the finals they would have to face them lakers come on they cant beat the 2 time defending champs. Yea they beat us in the regular seson twice but that was the regular seson. Its play off time now baby and this kobe and derrick fisher time of the year. And prix who ever you are what are takeing about yea you have talent and talent can over come some things but it takes a team to overcome obstacles and the heat aint no team.you can forget about bosh being a big man in the paint because that aint gone happen. He aint no Gasol and he definley aint no Bynum. So stop whinning and talkin about the refs are cheting to help the lakers win and give credit to where credit is due. And to all them kobe hators saying he is getting to old just sit back and shutup and watch cause him and the lakers are about to shutdown every team in the west and the last team in the east and come out vitorious with a back 2 back 2 back win . Theree times NBA champs

  34. Francisco says:

why they do not show that kobe shot 40% only when the lakers went 17 and 1, this is a clear indicator that he has no case for mvp

  35. The Answer 03 says:

@Gary: LeBron wasn’t the only one to come close to a championship with a “‘weak supporting cast” . Don’t forget about Allen Iverson. He was also close. Not just close, but closer than Queen James. Just a friendly FYI :]

    • syden says:

      Another Celtics(bulls0-Lakers for the finals.
Celts will beat the Heat for they’ve got better post-season experience and the heat has Queen Lebron whose legs shake when postseason games start

  36. Charlie says:

    “MAGIC vs. HAWKS
    27.2%
Magic opponents attempted just 27.2 percent of their shots from within five feet of the rim, the lowest percentage in the league.”

    – HAHAHA!! that’s why Dwight Howard is the most intimidating center in the league

  37. watcher says:

Looks like the Mavs grabbed the empty chip packet when going for the lucky dip again. Amazing stat re: the Blazers current starting 5. There is no upset to be had in that series as it could clearly go either way. Nuggs cant match the Thunder, Lakeshow walk all over the injury affected N.O. midgets, and the Grizz will be happy with an honourable loss (6 games would = 3 games @ Memphis = good result).
The East has some interest with the unproven Bulls. Just how far can they go before youthful exuberance meets veteran savvy? Indiana are in Memphis’ boat here. Are the Celtics a shadow now that their (imo) average big has moved on? Not against NY. Unless Mozgov grows wings or Turiaf grows an offensive move or two. Still the teams are so polarized in style one cant help but imagine all sorts of crazy scenarios. All of which may be viable with D’antoni’s fearless, yet vunerable coaching philosophy. Atlanta were playing better in 07, and Phillys dip got them the Mavs chip packet crumbs by drawing the chip-on-its-shoulder Heat.
And I cant wait to be proved wrong!

  38. Erel says:

In The PLAYOFFS If you don^t win go home
    LETS GO MAGIC :D

  39. erik says:

you are right josh lakers is best and they are gonne be they was and they lakers champion 2009 -2011

  40. erik says:

plic=x shut up and listen lakers is really good team. they beat portland 3 times in this season lakers is gonna be champion of this year. goooooooooo laaaakkkkkeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrssssssss

  41. ??? says:

Wow john schuman, you should atleast give positive stats for all of the matchups but u chose to give the MAGIC and especially the HEAT negative stats, why is that? so many haters/favoritism , when ur writing an article be sure to be neutral. You can atleast mention that the magic are one of the best 3 pt shuting team in the league with a total of __ 3pt fgs made, or can say that the big 3 average 70.9 pts most by any 3 players in the league blablabla >.<

    • ??? says:

oh sorry i read the magic comment again and its actually POSITIVE, i didn’t see the opponents thing at the start, so the HEAT have the only negative stat here, Nice Job Heat hater, im a spurs fan, hoping that manu will be back healty for the playoofs >.< :)

  42. the future says:

the real question for the east is can the heat make it out? can they get past the celtics or the bulls? im a laker fan and we all know the biggest obstacle is OKC with KD. its going to be a good playoffs this year! personally, i dont see the heat beating the celtics but who knows.. i think its going to be a laker-celtic finals, but i personally want to see a lakers-bulls final or a lakers-heat finals. let the games begin!

  43. hey guys says:

    hey guys…

if you look at the matchups above.. you’ll see that its just about the 1st round…

  44. lady cali says:

all you Laker haters wake up and smell the coffee, I know you know it’s on and popping and not only will we represent the west again, however we will beat the Bulls ( who happens to be my east coast team!, however I was born in raised in L.A.)! lets go Lakers another parade in downtown…………….YEAH BABY!!!!!

  45. josh says:

    la lakers are the best
they will demolish anything that comes in the way
i mean miami and newyork have 3 big men
but the lakers are an all rounded team
one star performance doesnt sort it out for them
they work well together as one unit
and thats what enhances their invincibility

    • heat says:

you serious? Lakers didn’t even win a game against Miami this season.

    • Vlad says:

yeah i know i read it 1 million times…why don`t they just hand the rigs to them now??????? spare us some time then …

It`s basketball guys…a lot of things can happen

  46. Daa - Truth says:

No team has improved enough to beat the LA LAKERS in a 7 game series. Rose gets shut down. then what?. LA will destroy Miami inside! Lakers 3-peat… its unfortunate lol but its reality.

  47. den says:

hey guys would it be fun to watch if heat can go all the way to finals,,,just asking your honest opinion…..???

    • Andy says:

Yeah, I think it would be fun to see the Heat go to the finals!! People don’t have to like the Heat, but they can’t deny the talent of LeBron and D-Wade!!

  48. kobe24 says:

    i mean 3 peat

  50. vandalz says:

heat shot 5-26, lbj always get rattled in the final min…ill go for # peat or d rose in the finals

  51. Lakers are the best team to win it all because of many reasons. 1. Andrew Bynum. He has proven he can be the best center in the leage when he faced Dwight Howard and got more rebounds than him and gave Dwight 3 blocks. 2. 6th man of the year Lamar Odom. He is a terrific player coming off th bench and no one can argue about that. 3. Pau Gasol. He is one the best PF in the NBA.He just needs to get tougher. 4. Ron Artest. Im not sure about this one but he is a heck of a defender. 5. The partnership and playoff expirience of LA. 6. KOBE BRYANT. Everything great about him has already been said.

    • OKCKD35 says:

i’ll give you 7 reasons the thunder will beat the lakers, 1. Kevin Durant 2nd year in a row scoring champion. 2. Russell Westbrook, the lakers have nobody fast enough to guard him. 3 Kendrick Perkins, will give Bynum fits in the low post. 4 Serge Ibaka, most blocks in the NBA this year coming off the bench most of the season. 5. Thabo Sefolosha, only reason we have him is to be “Kobe kryptonite”. 6. James Harden, noone has scored more points off the bench than Harden Since the all-star break. 7. age, Combine the top 6 with the age of the Lakers and i smell an upset on the rise!!

  52. PERSON says:

THE BULLS HAVE BEEN TO THE NBA FINALS 6 TIMES AND THEY WON ALL 100% AND THEY’RE GONNA MAKE 7 NBA CHAMPIONS IN LESS THAN 20 YEARS THE BEST SINCE THE 60S BOSTON

  53. Al says:

    Really interesting play-offs..
It’s like the experienced grind-out / find-a-way-to-win teams against the new/suave/unpackaged teams. The experienced teams, (LA, San Antonio, Boston) sides being like your full English breakfasts, a never disappoint’er and on the other hand your bowl of fruit – fresh, vibrant though perhaps slightly hasty. (Miami, Chicago)
Personally, I can visualise LA, with a team that seems so personal, like a close family, becoming champions. With a coach like Phil Jackson, just proven to be good. Miami will provide a great deal of entertainment, but perhaps they just won’t be able to ‘hack’ it when those rings are within grasping distance.
Oh how valuable it is having a ring in the cabinet at home.. it’s impossible to diminish the chances of those old wagons.

  54. Terrence says:

Lakers vs. Celtics finals. Lakers win in 6 games. Go to http://truballers414.blogspot.com/ to see why

  55. Miami Heat says:

The Heat improved in clutch situations toward the end of the season. I think that the Heat will carry that momentum going into the plyaoffs!

    • lady cali says:

The Heat sucks and they won’t make it out of the east, they were swept in te regular season by the Bulls and if they meet in the playoffs the Bulls will run through them again!

  56. Hank says:

Would be nice if nba.com enhanced the +/- tool to show more than 50 combinations- maybe take it to 50 combinations per page and have 2-3 pages.

And allow more flexible column sorting and put the per minute performance information back in there. If you have the tool and want to promote its use, why de-tune it so much?

  57. katz216 says:

    @cris

    what record?lol

    • chris says:

      - On March 27, Wade, James, and Bosh became the second trio in NBA history to have at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in the same non-overtime game (a home win against the Houston Rockets), matching Oscar Robertson, Wayne Embry and Jack Twyman for the Cincinnati Royals in a loss to the Philadelphia Warriors on February 2, 1961. Additionally, it was the first time that a team’s trio recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds in consecutive games since Sidney Wicks, Lloyd Neal and John Johnson accomplished the feat with the Portland Trail Blazers in March 1975. It was also the first time in Heat franchise history that three players scored 30 points in the same game.
      – The 2010 Heat finished with a 58-24 record, third best in team history and a second overall seed.
      – James finished second in the league in scoring with 26.7 points per game and Dwyane Wade finished fourth (25.5 points per game). They combined to score 4,052 points this season, most by a duo in franchise history.

      • Law064 says:

@Chris those stats are really great but I mean what does it mean? If you ask me they should’ve had the best record of franchise history with the trio they have. Boston set records and so has the Bulls but they are not really worth mentioning. Can this trio have 20 and 10 in the postseason? The Heat better hope they don’t have close games cause if they do I have 1 name D.Wade if Lechoke shoot it’s going to miss. No clutch no heart just a big frame with speed.

      • unknown says:

That is record????Oh my god.I believe Wilt Chamberlain scored like 4,000 point on his own in one season 50ppg.Add another guy stat to wilt 4000 point, like the guy who scored 22ppg in wilt team that season you will likely have 5,500 or more and you got the best scoring duo ever. Now that is a record. The best scoring duo with 25ppg or better I believe was Shaq and Kobe and they won a championship. So if they don’t win the championship this record don’t mean nothing. And nobody care about franchise record anyone can break them , including two mini Jordan and one mini Pippen.

    • chris says:

You want stats also? (only 2, I’m not paid for that!) : 75% of their losses by single digit. Among those single digit losses, 77,77% are equal or less than 5pts.
Which means that the heat is not a bad team at all (they started to build this team last summer), they already reached almost the same regular season wins that the cavs took 6/7 years to reach. In other words, the next season they will have 65+ or even 70+ wins in the regular season, or even beat the 72 wins record of the bulls.
Speaking of bulls, like some people say, they are like last season cavs, a great regular season team with a good defense and an all-star player and that’s pretty much it…they rely way too much on derrick rose(what happen if is injured?), it’s too easy for the other teams to cut the horse’s head. They will go through the first round and that’s it!
The celtics, they’re done, but everybody already know that (with the perks trade…).
I will love to see an OKC/MIAMI finals but I think it will be a Lakers/MIA matchup in a simple marketing point of view. After all, kobe and lebron jerseys are the best sellers, and it’s with these two team that the nba (it’s a business after all, they are not philanthropes) have the best ratings.
Miami will beat the lakers in the finals, putting the mark of the beginnig of an era (emerging teams : NYK, bulls, okc, miami…rebuilding of lakers, celtics, spurs). A lot of drama (which rhymes with NBA), because phil jackson will retire without the last 3-peat and kobe without the 6th ring (he’ll never equal Jordan; and he has already played more minutes; so nervous breakdown).

  58. Abdul says:

Lets get one thing straight!! everyone tries to ride the hate the heat bandwagon, Lebron James should have been Co-MVP, D rose deserved his but look at what Lebron did for the heat, D wade may have one a ring in 2006, but look who he had on his team, then look at what D wade did after that…NOTHING!! Lebron is the most playoff experienced player on that team, the way the game changes when is on the floor is remarkable. the Celtics made the biggest mistake of any franchise in history when they traded away Perkins, now they gotta rely on Grandpa to let them to the finals..its not gonna happen, cant argue with physics, Shaqs too old, no tires left. The Heat must win the EAST. Lebron, Finals MVP..BOOK it!!!

    • Ruben says:

if Le-choke is the most experienced player in playoffs time for the Heat, the Heat has a real problem lol

lechoke has only experience in choking at the playoffs.

Wade is the only salvation for that Heat team

    • GMAN says:

Your funny…. If you took Wade and stuck him with Rose they wouldnt loose a game. Labron is a great player. Rose has less around him and they are still great. Rose is hands down the MVP This year.

      • Law064 says:

@Ruben & Gman I agree totally. Lechoke will choke again Wade will try to will the Heat in the clutch cause Lechoke is simply not a closer he’s a choker. If Wade would’ve came home to Chicago The Bulls would be almost certain to make it to the finals.@Abdul Why in the world should Lechoke be named co MVP?? If you take Lechoke off Miami they’ll be ok but if you take Rose off the Bulls then you’ll have a huge problem. Your other comment Lebron has the most experience in the playoffs?? Seriously??? He’s choked the last two years. The Heat won’t make it past Boston 1-3 vs them get real my man. NY 0-4 vs Boston upset?? Stop lmao

    • Angus says:

are you sure about this Abdul? “D wade may have one a ring in 2006, but look who he had on his team, then look at what D wade did after that…NOTHING!! Lebron is the most playoff experienced player on that team”. i think Lebron has more experience in play-offs in terms of LOOSING!!!! Ring count: WADE: 1 LeFreak: 0 !!!

      • celts 18 in da bag says:

i agree and the last game of the regular season the celtics had 9 people playin and they still beat tha knicks with backups vs. starters this is there year. lakers vs celtics finals 4-2 CELTICS #18. HEAT DONT STAND A CHANCE LEBRICK BLOWS. Wade is tha only chance they got

  59. robld says:

Naaa…been way too long since my Bulls won it all

  60. think says:

Boston – LA (at this era) is at 1-1… better settle the score this year :)

  61. robld says:

@unknown Actually, the most profitable Finals for this year would be a rematch between the Bulls and Lakers on the 20th anniversary

    • Sweet says:

I don’t watch basketball but hear a lotta talk about it by my brothers, co-workers, & neighbors. With that said, I know about the rivalry between the Lakers & the Celtics. If those two teams make it to the finals, I surely gonna watch just 2 see who wins.

  62. robld says:

The problem is people take stats too seriously. Dont get me wrong, I believe stats can be very telling of a team. In the Miami Heats case its been a struggle to close games out for them all year(they still managed 58 wins). If they wanted to toss any stat on that team, it shouldve been their season record agaisnt the top teams.

    • Heated fan says:

Exactly! the playoffs has 16 teams…Based on games won by all the teams. its bulls #1 Spurs #2 and ohh look Heat #3 then lakers # 4 for those who think stats matter when it comes to post season, then feel free to think about that

  63. Jatniel says:

West Finals: L.A. Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs
East Finals: Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat
NBA Finals: L.A. Lakers vs. Chicago Bulls
    NBA Champion: ???

    • Kikz says:

NBA CHAMPION : LA LAKERS 2010-2011

    • Dave says:

i think this is the best NBA post season ever. the playoff teams are almost evenly balanced.

in the west, all teams, except NOH, have a chance to win the conference title. DAL seems to be a softie and is not explosive offensively without Butler and MEM doesn’t have enough to compete consistently with the top contenders. so the probable teams winning the west, not in order are (SAS, LAL, OKC, DEN, POR), but leaning more to either LAL or OKC.

in the east, the top 4 teams from CHI to ORL are likely to win, but ORL won’t be able to compete with the eastern top 3 in a 7 game series and BOS doesn’t seem to play like BOS without Perkins. so my top pick for the east is either CHI or MIA.

      world champion:
      LAL vs CHI ==> LAL;
      LAL vs MIA ==> MIA;
OKC vs ( CHI or MIA) ==> OKC

if i’m a betting man, i will choose OKC, but since i’m not and since i’m a laker fan from the time of Magic Johnson, i have to choose my team to win — LAL. :-)

    • Champkobe says:

I don’t believe in the spurs. Conference finals will be either the Thunder vs LA or Portland (LA fan here, but i realize portland isn’t gunna be easy to beat) or Denver (yes, denver) vs LA. Spurs can’t catch up to either of the team’s speed

  64. think says:

This is the playoffs baby!!! Some stats might mean something (Bulls improvement in effeciency, Lakers minutes on their best 5, Blazers improvement with wallace) but this is a totally different story.

Some teams are about matchups (blazers vs. mavs, thunder vs. nuggets, magic vs. hawks) but some teams will just be going through the first round with their “eyes on the prize” like LA, Boston (yes, Boston will beat NY for crying out loud), Spurs, Miami, and the Bulls.

The second round will be more interesting especially LA facing Blazers or Mavs and Boston vs. Heat.

  65. The Heat shot 5-for-26 (19 percent) in the final 30 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime with the score tied or when trailing by 1-3 points LMAO They are going home early. They better not sleep on Philly or they’ll be really in trouble. If they meet Boston in the 2nd round it’s curtains for the 3 ring circus. Ohh heat fans don’t give me that “we beat Boston by 23 points” Yes that’s true but you lost 3 previous games to this same team. Tell me if they can have a good bench performance night in and out in a series with Boston or the Bulls?? Miami SUCKS!!!!!

    • Gary says:

No they didn’t. That’s a combination of games(losses) not a single game. But this guy always rearranges stats against the Heat.

      • Law064 says:

@Gary Numbers don’t lie but he could’ve said thru all the struggles they made it to the #2 seed so that’s good for this team that was just put together. They still lose to Boston in the 2nd round.

  66. unknown says:

Well like last year.Boston will beat a lot of super star..Boston beated wade, lebron and dwight howard. Now this year will beat wade and lebron(and the half star is not included) at the same time and that is just the main course. How awesome is that?First amare and carmelo anthony for breakfast just for fun.And for the Finale we may get the mvp or the best defensice player with a lot “all-star” players.Boston is gonna win.The west doesn’t matter, but the lakers will be the best fit for boston to beat, because is gonna make a lot of money in tv rating and is rematch of course.

  67. HEAT4BRON says:

WITH ALL THE HOOPLAH OF HEAT BEING BOOED ALMOST EVERY WHERE, SHOULD THEY PREVAIL DURING THIS YEAR PLAYOFFS AND HOPEFULLY PROVE TO THE NAYSAYERS SUCH AS ALL TV ANALYST WHO DONT BELIEVE IN THE HEAT.

SO MANY TRASH WAS SAID AGAINST THE HEAT, AND STILL THEY MANAGED TO BE NO 2 SEED IN THE EAST AND BROKE MANY INDIVIDIUALLY AS WELL AS TEAM RECORDS ALONG THE WAY.

ALL RESPECT TO MY BUDDY SEKOU, U AINT INCLUDED, I KNOW U HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FAIR IN REGARDS TO THE ALMIGHTY HEAT.

I AM NOT SAYING HEAT IS A COMPLETE TEAM, BUT LET’S NOT FORGET TALENT CAN OVERCOME MANY OBSTACLE, AS WE KNOW WADE WHO SINGLE HANDEDLY WON CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE HEAT AND LEBRON WHO HAS WON 2 MVP AND REPEATED ALMOST SAME NUMBERS AGAIN THIS DIFFICULT YEAR FOR THE HEAT AND IF BOSH WILL COME OUT BIG IN THE PAINT, THEN THEY CAN SHOCK THE WORLD. GO HEAT !!

    • think says:

      calm down bro LOL,

Wade won the finals against the Mavs because Shaq (who was 2nd to MVP vs. Nash that year) was there. And the MIAMI TEAM also decided to be tougher defensively against Dallas. It was Wade’s greatest performance offensively, but it was never “single-handed”.

As for LeBron, he was MVP… but couldnt get past the Magic and Boston for the years he was the season MVP.

These two understood that they cannot win the championship “single-handedly”… thats why they teamed up.

They knew this, so should you :).

      • Gary says:

It is known that no ONE NBA star ever got a championship by themsleves, but Lebron came closer than most ANY other star on HIS OWN(meaning weak supporitng cast)…just a friendly FYI.

      • think says:

@Gary… point well taken… Lebron is such a basketball specimen… but still he chose to go to southbeach and play with wade, he knows he can’t just dominate the league with himself :)

      • Dave says:

Wade won the championship for the Heat with Alonzo Mourning. Shaq was almost non-existent during the finals.

      • Gary says:

@ Think, yeah he can’t dominate by himself in the playoffs, but did a pretty good job of that in two regular seasons in a row with a worst cast than a 80’s B movie.

      • Champkobe says:

I don’t understand all this “Lebron had a weak supporting cast”. He had two all-stars in mo williams and antawn jamison, a developing player in jj. hickson, and a former all-star in illgauskus. The only thing he was lacking is a strong bench.

      • Salman says:

listen gary what are u tryin to say no one can win championship alone not even micheal jordan could so dont hate on wade. he was the finals mvp not shaq and also kobe hasnt won a title himself either he had an all-star paul gasol on his side. look at wade number during the finals and your telling me that they won cause of shaq please cmon u should know better

      • with so many great teams in the league today, not in need of a “superstar player” i dont think anyone has single handedly won a championship.

  68. Gary says:

These are the most meaningless stats I’ve seen. How is this going to give any kind of insight to the playoffs? One random fact for each team and in some cases that stat is taken from certain (losses) which proves nothing. Meh.

    • prix says:

Agree! It does’nt make sense..And they empasize the weakness of the Heat rather than other teams, In playoff time, Heat game will not go into wire because ever game is a BLOW OUT!!!

  69. chris says:

LOL…the only stat which is not good it’s for the heat…where is the objectivity? (journalism = objectivity normally). I know you want to create some tough dicussions between heat fans and the others, but I mean seriously?
The Heat are already part of History, why you didn’t show all the good ones? How many records did the heat break during this season (as a team and individually)? That’s a much more interesting question!

    • james says:

I don’t think they broke a single record…… None worth talking about anyway….If there were any please tell me because I am unaware the LeBrick, The Flop Bosh, and Wade had any records

      • chris says:

        - Since the players-only meeting, the team had pulled together a 12 game win streak (10 of them by double-digits) and limited the opposition under the century mark (100 points) in all those games. During the winning streak, James led the Heat to defeat his former team by scoring 38 points (tying a Heat record for points in a quarter with 24 in the third) in a game that drew nearly 7.1 million viewers and earned a 25.4 rating in Miami.
        – The Heat set a franchise record for wins in December with 15 and set an NBA record for consecutive road victories in a calendar month with 10 (including the Christmas Day matchup with the reigning two time champs Los Angeles Lakers which the team won 96-80).
        – Sell out 99.1 percent on the road.
        – On January 27, 2011, via fan voting, LeBron James (forward) and Dwyane Wade (guard) were selected to be starters for the Eastern Conference at the All-Star Game becoming the second pair of teammates to be selected as All-Star starters in franchise history (Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade; 2006 and 2007). A few days later, forward Chris Bosh was selected as a reserve, marking the first time in Heat history the team has sent three players to the All-Star game in a single season.

      • Champkobe says:

Chris. Problem with those stats are that the majority of them broke FRANCHISE records, not NBA records. When it comes down to the playoffs, clutch is critical. And in all aspects, the heat are NOT clutch.

Prix stop being a stupid hater.

      • Gary says:

@ Chris don’t forget about the 30 points 10+ board record. These kids just don’t watch ball. Only look at the highlight reel and still the Heat are all over that too.

      • chris says:

I know gary, I mentioned it below on this page (with some other records).

      • maybe the best 3 players in a single team ever

    • prix says:

He is probably a Laker fan..it’s too obvious that the stats are one-sided againts the Heat.. Kobe got fined and It is just a SHOW OFF because we all know the Lakers wont get to the finals with a lot of stronger teams and they need Refs to help them out again..The higher ups bet too much and do everything for L.A to win…IT’S ALL ABOUT THE $$$$ BABY!!! That’s why I REALLY HATE CHEATERS…it have NO RESPECT TO THE GAME I MOSTLY LOVE!!!

    • Bfan says:

Are you talking about the Miami WEEP?

    • Gary says:

You and they guy below James don’t watch ball. They’ve broken a number of recorods. One that hasn’t been toched in over 20 years in fact. But keep hating hater cause this is just the first year of them being together. How many records has LA and Boston beat as a team in their first year of rebuilding?

      • Josh says:

They don’t break records, and if they did, why should anyone care? Anything they have done up to this point is gone, useless information now. This is playoffs, it is a whole new beast. In saying that, I think the Heat have as good a chance as anyone to get to the Finals, but don’t you think that stat is the most interesting? The one thing that shouldn’t be an issue for that team is their biggest?

      • BullsChampionship#7 says:

guess what bro bulls have a completely new roster too

  70. ddish81 says:

I can’t wait for the playoffs to start. A Bulls-Thunder match up in the finals is a good possiblity. I am also smelling another upset in Maverickland from the Blazers!!! We should make sure to enjoy this post season, it may be the last one we have for a while.

    http://www.sweaterpunch.com/2011/04/13/top-10-nba-trades-of-the-2010-2011/

    • prix says:

Blazers-Mavs could be the upset…L.A was lucky last night againts the Kings,if they fall to Portland that would be the last time we will saw L.A..but I’m more interested in OKC-Denver match up and NY-Boston which I see OKC and NY wins…

      • ddish81 says:

I don’t even think NY will show up. I think next year they might be a little thougher to deal with if there is any basketball. OKC should win, but Denver has been playing pretty well. I like both teams, I wish they both could advance.

      • Champkobe says:

Always the Laker hater huh? Still, even I’ll admit portland will be tough.

      • prix you suck it’s ovious you hate boston and the lakers because since they can both beat your teams you are oviously jealous

      • Imad Akel says:

im so upset that prix is a heat fan
i think i speak on behalf of all heat fans when i say please be someone else’s fan (like san antonio, nobody likes them….)

this year the playoffs are very interesting. I can’t really say who is the favorite in the east. If the celtics had finished second, I’d say they are the favorites as eastern conference champions. But since they fell to third and fell (badly) to the heat at their home court, i don’t really know if they will be able to get past the heat anymore.
I know if they did get past the heat, the bulls won’t stand a chance. But if it is heat vs. bulls for eastern conference finals, i used to think it would be heat for sure but now i’m abit less optimistic…
So overall, I don’t know who to put the higher odds on for the eastern conference champs.

In the west, although there are many great teams, i can bet good money the spurs will be the western conference champions. Both the lakers and spurs will cruise (no 7 games) to the western conference finals, and then the spurs will win it in a 6 or an epic 7 game series.
