HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – We’re not ashamed to admit that we are suckers for anything that produces bright-colored sneakers and apparel on the basketball court.
It’s one of the reasons we absolutely love All-Star Weekend, St. Patrick’s Day and especially NBA Green Week, when the green headbands, wristbands, knee and elbow sleeves and wicked kicks come out of the closet.
But NBA Green Week is about more than just making a fashion statement for teams like the Raptors (video above), Rockets, Trail Blazers, Nets and Mavericks, whose Guard The Planet initiative is one of our faves here at the hideout. And for Bernard King, the scoring machine and four-time All-Star during his 16-season NBA career, it’s about so much more.
King is the co-owner of BK&T Energy Solutions, a LEED accredited company that helps clients save money by reducing their energy consumption. For putting some serious substance with the style we’ve decided to crown BK as the King of NBA Green Week here at the hideout.
If there was a Mardi Gras style parade, which doesn’t sound like a bad idea, King would be on the biggest float. Because he’s not just talking about the environmental awareness movement, he is a part of the movement!
And now, a little throwback love for the King of NBA Green Week:

who’s that old guy? ive seen him in some other videos, but i just couldnt get a name
are you refering to Bernard King? not sure!
Yeah, a lot of good it does when they create the thousands of shirts to show off how “green” the NBA is. Hypocrisy at it’s finest.
the shirts are made from organic material, so it is promoting alternate options that are better for the enviroment.
Come on this is Red Auerbach!
Sometimes it takes some resources in order to reduce our resources, whether it’s creating some kind of message to capture an audience to raise environmental awareness, which hopefully in the long run, will reduce the impacts we have on the environment, promote sustainable energy, local green jobs, etc. Hopefully the NBA will “follow through” and practice its green week message not just one week out the year, but every week.
Enjoy ‘Green Week’ rest of the NBA… because it’s going to be another ‘Purple & Gold’ postseason! (Luke Walton should’ve known better than to wear that cursed-color t-shirt on the bench yesterday.)
Am I the only one getting a little tired of all these gimmicks in the NBA? NBA Fit week, NBA Green Week, Noche Latina Uniforms, etc. etc..
@ kbangbang: The old guy is one of NBA’s greatest coaches: Red Auerbach!
Green day for the NBA should be drug test day. Lord knows how many of those players smoke that green.
I think that this should be for a whole month! Its pretty cool and it shows kids/fans its cool to recycle.
Do you think they smoke to much green in the league ? who is the no. 1 pot head ? who averages more blunts per game ?
Your not really helping the world, just making it less awfull then what you previously did. So it’s an improvement more then your actually helping
Benard King should be in the BB HOF no question.
those tight little shorts were so right…I could watch this video ALL DAY.
Kobe Bryant
Why is the NBA pushing these leftist causes (NBA Green, noche latina)? I wish they’d just stick to basketball and quit the “Me too!” with ramming these things down people’s throats. I’m getting really turned off towards the NBA because of these things.
