HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – You’ve been asking for it since our Kobe’s Top 10 Plays series began. And now it’s here.
The 2002-03 season was a special one for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. No, they didn’t win a title that year (they lost in the Western Conference finals.)
But Kobe was at his lethal best. Take a look for yourself (Yao Ming might want to take this one off):
We only have two more installments of our Kobe’s Top 10 Plays list. So you will need to check back here in the days leading up to the 60th All-Star Game, Feb. 20 in Los Angeles, to make sure you don’t miss any of the action.

that was his best season

Great player. Top 15 all time.
more like top 3!!!!
I would say top 3 in best SGs of all time:
1. Micheal Jordan
2. Kobe Bryant
3.Oscar Robertson
Kobe would be in the top 10 all time:
1. Micheal Jordan
2. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
3. Karl Malone
4. Wilt Chamberlain
5. Kobe Bryant
6. Shaquille O’Neal
7. Hakeem Olajuwon
8.Oscar Robertson
9. Charles Barkley
10, Magic Johnson
May have forgotten big names but oh well, these are out of the top of my head.
Did you just throw in 3 guys from the past because you don’t know much about baskitball? Seems you know the past 20 or 30 years only.
You didn’t just forget big names, you made one of the worst lists I’ve ever seen. To have Karl Malone at 3 and Charles Barkley at 9? Neither of them sniff the top ten and you’ve left some people off that I’ll list now.
Larry Bird
Bill Russell
Moses Malone
Jerry West
Elgin Baylor
John Havlicek
Tim Duncan
Your list is an insult to the NBA and basketball in general.
you a jordan fan lol..you forget the big names in the NBA hall of famers…your list is suck.
that top 10 is awful. Mind you, Kobe is my favorite player of all time.
1.) MJ
2.) Magic Johnson
3.) Kareem
4.) Larry Bird
5.) Bill Russell
6.) Kobe Bryant
7.) Jerry West
8.) Wilt Chamberlain
9.) Elgin Baylor
10.) Shaq
Its really hard to even pinpoint a top 10, I would say the list I provided would even be pretty in-accurate and offensive to some.
Definitely his best season during the Kobe-Shaq era.
“Nice rotation to Bryant. BUCKLE UP FOR KOBE BRAYANT! KOBE BRYANT JUST SUCKED THE GRAVITY OUT OF THE TARGET CENTER! WHAT A PLAY!”
Kobe was great that year,
Ow Sekou: Lakers lost in conference semi’s.
Conference finals was spurs vs mavs
In that series, the Mavs lost Nowitzki, in the third game. I wonder if the Mavs did win that series, if they could make a little dynastie of their own, winning 2 or 3 championships, with the big 3: Dirk, Nash and Finley.
Kobe is the real king!
This is the question that i have just voted Kobe http://trendocean.com/question/NjZmMDMzOTk4Mzk3OWQ2YmY2MWUxZjQ1ZGYwY2I3NDY
there seem to be lots of NBA players wearing zoom kobes… hope to see them in this section..
where is that Kobe dunk on Sprewell?? i cant believe they forgot that, it did happen during the ’02-03 season!!
kobe great player maybe the second best all time after mj
This was one of the seasons that KB should have gotten the MVP. He should have gotten it this season 05-06 and the year he actually got it. He should have won 3 MVP’s. However, because their are so many haters (if you don’t believe me just read some of what has been written on here) he didn’t get the praise he should have gotten. Shaq was hurt/lazy this whole year. KB carried that team the whole season. He did the 40 point 9 times in a row. Shot lights out from 3 and what a lot of people probably don’t remember is that when he dunk over Yao he was hurt. His leg was dead but the man is a amazing!!! He was getting IV while on the bench or half time can’t remember but still got that 40 point 9 times not done since MJ who when he did that (I am guessing) but probably won the MVP! KB should have won it! He was and still is a beast!!! Was this the season that he got the 3 point record?
I think Nash got Mvp that year but Kobe definetly did his thing, I love this Greatest hits series if you didnt know how many great years Kobe has run the game, you do now
i feel you Paul, Kobe has been robbed of 2 MVPS…theres no question
His #1 play was the same #1 play as 09 except he dunked it here
I mean, Kobe is simply the best, there is no arguing about it, he is simply the best. That Windmill on Kg… That play is sick. People praise Mj dunk on Ewing, and it was a great dunk, great move, but give credit to this dunk, Ewing is just a boy in front of Yao. And what about that 360… Kobe, Kobe, Kobe
No. 2 is one of the best playoff dunks of all time! Top 10 all time for a in game playoff dunk for sure!!!
that #1 play is sensational!!
Yea loved it too, top 10 dunks of the decade no doubt.
Thaaaaaankkk yoooouuuuu,I’ve always wanted to see this
i dont know…i still think Kobe’s best season was his 81 point season
Yea he was on a mission that year
The best dribbler and maneuver in the league. Kobe
do you have his 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 spectacular shooting range and accuracy?
Hi Sekou,
I love this video!!! I also love the music in the videos you have posted, where can I find these awesome tracks to listen to in the gym?! I really would like them please.
first year without the fro!
Kobe should have won the MVP that year by posting his best over -all stats of his career. They robbed him again considering he’s the best player in the world for so many years. He’s the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
Kobe! The Best of ALL THE TIME!
what is with all this push for kobe crap, he is not retired he still plays, why for the last month has this blog tried to push that he is the greatest or something, HEY Sekou, lets have the man finish his career then u can feel free to carry on like this.
Great highlights of kobe…but can anyone just tell me why they’re doing this? I want to see Bill Russell’s top ten and Wilt… Larry Bird VS Magic, Clyde Drexler, The badboys, I wanna see Reggie’s Highlights VS Ray Allen. What is this??? I don’t get it. The leage is wrong. You guys better NOT call me a hater or anything, I don’t hate anyone, I love watching the NBA action. I also happen to be from detroit and we beat the lakers twice in the finals and one of them was when kobe was part of the team in 2004….Kobe has always been one of the best, no need to deny that. Just show us more of the actual history of the NBA not what just happened in the last 12, 13 seasons ago…
Your Pistons are garbage theyllbe lucky to have 1 highlight this season. The guy has highlights because he’s just that sick and the world wants to pay respect are there any Pistons in the All Star game? lol
That was disrespectful, it seems like you still are sad and upset that we beat ur buts back in 2004, LA… but that is not the point here… grow up and read what I posted again, We will have a lot more of kobe for many more years and give some time to other players from the past…anyways…goodnight.
its unreal…. i still shake my head at how he only has ONE mvp. all hope is lost for the NBA if he doesn’t get another before he hangs it up.
it doesnt make sense to me how the reigning two time MVP gets those awards when he cant even take his team to the finals (only did once and got swept years ago. didnt even make it past conf. semi finals last year.. he gave up, real valuable). but the guy who has led his team to three straight finals appearances and has won the last two championships back2back hasn’t won in the past two seasons. shrug.
stats dont mean anything if you cant get the gold, mvp committee, thats the whole point of why everyones playing.. to win the championship
just a thought
It doesn’t matter if Kobe will win another0 MVP or not. I do know that Kobe’s main concern is to win more Championship. 1 MVP is good but 5 + (LARRY O’BRIEN TROPHY / RINGS) CHAMPION is better. GO LAKESHOW !!! 3PEAT
KOBE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO CELTICS!!!
This is the best of the Kobe highlight reels thus far. That windmill slam was insane!
simply wow imagine he still dunked like dat now. that goes for carter too
IF ONLY KOBE AND LEBRON IS ON THE SAME ERA, SURE THESE DEBATE WOULD BE OVER… LEBRON IS DOMINATING KOBE ON ATHLETICISM THESE DAYS SINCE HE’S MUCH YOUNGER BUT STILL KOBE WIN ON CLUTCH SHOTS WHERE ITS A BIG FACTOR
yea kobe is his prime was a beast, better than lobron i think…lebron just is a better floor general IN TERMS of seeing over defenders and dishing out the passes..but Kobe all the way
Kobe is still cooking stuff at 32 yrs old, with 35 yr old legs, and 2 messed up fingers….PRODUCING AT A HIGH LVL….dude is great man, no doubt about it
So tied up on todays NBA and forgot how good KB was in his younger days…KB needs Shaq and Shaq need KB, but actually both of them need Phil Jackson. So for argument sake it is not because of Shaq and not because of KB it is because of Phil. The difference with him or seperate him with the other players today is his will to win at all cost and never give up until you bring him back to the bench…KB bumaye…KB bumaye…let the mamba loose
He still has nothing MJ, Jordan was the best ever, compare the stats and the way they both play the game…Kobe is good but hes no MJ. If MJ came back now he would still probably destroy kobe at 48.
MJR ….mj tried that already …if he came back now , kobe wear tear it up …sorry
Just be serious boy, if Jordan would have played in this era, he would be an all-star, but he wouldn’t be a superstar. You can’t compare era’s.
the dunk over yao was epic.. thumbs up best sg ever
the question is, why all these Kobe’s Greatest Hits?
what is the reason? be that as he no longer appears in the top ten, we must remember what was and can no longer do.
why the NBA is determined to make the biggest kobe really is? I do not understand ….
i have only 2 great players in nba for me: michael jordan, try to watch the mj’s playground cd u can judge his moves like u cannot see before hang in the air for how many seconds and kobe bryant now i watch his video i admire him a lot his the best but there’s one players in my list right now its dwayne wade his not the best as mj and kobe but i like him the way he moves and his dunks….i guess heat will be champ this year cause they have big 3!
I DONT THINK SO DANDY. THEY (HEAT) JUST LOST TODAY VS. CELTICS. THEY HAVE TO FIGURE FIRST HOW TO BEAT THE CELTICS.
ANYWAY ITS GONNA BE A REMATCH! LAKERS VS. celtics
I don’t understand how people come to this site, claim to follow basketball and can ask the question of why so many Kobe highlights. Ok here it is:
The All Star game is next weekend in where? Los Angeles (Kobe’s Home Court)
Kobe was the leading vote getter of all players for this game.
Anybody that has 10+ years worth of highlights probably is worthy of having this type of attention.
I won’t even mention the 5 rings.
Or the fact that he is still as lethal as ever (ask NY and Bos)
Bottom line, Kobe is a Phenomenal player with a work ethic that can’t be comprehended or matched by his peers, he plays through injuries that other use as excuses to sit, he scores at will and is unstoppable in most defensive schemes.
LET THE MAN GET HIS PROPS!!!!
peace
The Best Player in that year indeed.. but the thing is, MVP stands for Most Valuable Player.. sometimes this abbreviation is mis-interpreted..
damn he killed it that year.. i remember the high level comptition from all the good teams in the west and rivals to LA., like the kings and blazers.. kobe definitly killed it though .. Kobe Magic and Jordan favorite of all time..
Most accurate list off my head
1. Michael Jordan
2. Larry Bird
3. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
4. Magic Johnson
5. Bill Russell
6. Kobe Bryant
7. Wilt Chamberlain
8. Karl Malone
9. Jerry West
10. Shaquille O’Neal
It’s funny how everyone is talking about how Kobe has lost a step and isn’t producing like he used to. If you look at his numbers this year from previous years, he’s actually more efficient. He’s averaging 25.5 pts a game while playing only 33.8 minutes a game. If you compare that to Durant (29.1 @ 39.8 min) or Lebron (26.2 @ 38.2 min) its still much more efficent. Also, I don’t think anyone else in the game today comands a double team as much as Kobe. Opposing teams base their entire defense on trying to contain him and get him off his game. Kobe also is much more selective now than he was younger in his career (where he was depended on for more scoring). His game has changed, he is no longer the slasher/dunker he was. If you watched Jordan late in his career you will notice that Jordan too changed his game and was more of a post up player. One thing that truly sets him apart from other players in this league is his footwork, if you take the time to really watch his footwork, it’s amazing. There is no denying Kobe’s greatness, and people who have watched him play every game since he came into the league can truly appreciate just how far he has come. He expects the best out of himself as well as his teammates. I think once he has finally stepped away from the game and we are no longer privelaged to his abilities on display, maybe then is when he will finally get his due.
kobe is the 2nd greatest sg of all time. And in the top 10 if not 5 greatest players of all time
All the dunks were because he was wearing Jordans that year
“MONEY IT’S GOTTA BE THE SHOES!!”
They LOST at the SEMIFINALS against the Spurs. Sekou fat fool!
kobe is my number 1 player in the NBA
if steve blake trade to the lakers team
LAKERS will be undefeated hehhehehe
mj vs kb.Mj has been block by kobe in allstar game
but mj he did block kobe?
thats why i like kobe uhmmmm…….
boston is wicked…
la lakers will be the champion for this season and kobe will be the mvp..
and from that he’ll tie the record of mj…..for rings
Hey Sekou…
ur wrong men…
its the conference semis against the spurs >.<
Mavs vs spurs in the conf finals that year…
write right stuff men..
or you'll get fired…
i love the comment on the last play “kobe is doin what he does best bringing people to their feet with some sensational plays.”pretty much sums up kobe and the top tens to me .
also KOBE is supposed to already have 3 mvp rings the reason he doesnt is just a mystery bigger than the bermuda triangle or maybe its just cause there are way to many mj cocksuckers and kobe haters for him to get the full props he deserves. i think as much as ppl think he is good and he is already said to be one of the best ever he still hasnt gotten half the props he deserves and most prob will start getting recognized as much as he is supposed to when hes dead and burried which will obviouslyy be too late its a true shame.
Does anyone know which season he had dunk where he jumped off one side of the baseline, cocked it back, turned 180, dunked it with both hands on the other side of the rim?
I think that was against the pacers. email me!
his footwork on number 1……DANG
the #2 dunk is kobe’s best dunk ever!
They lost against Spurs in Semifinals 4-2.
kobe is wearing jordan in top play # 2
EL MEJOR DE LA NBA ES EL COBY DESDE SU YEGADA A ELLA . MI IDOLO COBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Who cares about MVPs. Rings matter, nothing else. Everyone knows who wins the ring, and everyone knows why teams win the ring. The MVP award is for a single person in a TEAM SPORT.
It doesn’t matter that Kobe doesn’t have 3 MVPs. It matters that he’s got 5 rings. It matters that he actually proved he could LEAD a team to back to back rings without Shaq. That’s what has made him great. His greatest performance was against the Nuggets in the conference Finals in 2009. If they lost that series then his legacy would be cut to pieces, but he dragged that team from behind all the way to the championship, and that’s what makes him great.
Forget MVP awards, they’re a joke. Lebron has 2, but it don’t mean anything. Barkley got one instead of Jordan; Malone got one instead of Jordan. You don’t think they’d trade them to beat him in the finals?
Nash would trade both his MVPs for a trip to the finals, let alone a ring.
Inquestionably the best since Jordan! And I am HUUUUUGE Jordan’s fan. He is th reason I ever begun to love this game. Fortunately there is Kobe to keep the passion up. I voted in a poll a few weeks ago agreeing that Kobe wasan’t yet a top 10 ever. But I remade the calculations and don’t see any player that I’ve seen or heard about who could top him besides Jordan, Johnson, Bird, Jabbar, and maybe Chamberlain.
He is a top 10 EVER!
weeew.. blake ‘great griffin copied the top play. LOL
Kobe’s amazing! 3-peat for LA 2011
how do you guys not have kobe dunking on sprewell at the garden on the baseline. you guys are worrying me about the fact that you don’t remember the best highlights. that was by far the sickest dunk kobe ever completed. Come on guys.
The fact that this guy came out of High SCHOOL and being compared to MJ and the best player closet to MJ. This guy need not to be compared to LEBRON or vice versa. He still playing a high level at age 33 or 32. He deserved all this credit. Bron wont even go to the DUNK contest. Last time I check bron wore 23 in Cavs. I wonder why he changed it? Kobe being player of the decade. We are all blessed to watch this guy. I dont even care about all those stats this guy wants RINGS. He is the complete player, Please dont say he had SHAQ and Jordan had no one. NO CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM OR PLAYER WIN RINGS BY THEMSELVES OR WITH BUMS. SO STOP IT.
The number one it’s just my Kobe’s favourite play.
The level of talent Kobe has to play against and defender of his era and still be to WIN SHIPS and play still play at a HIGH LEVEL. I really think people forget how really great this guy is and was. Father time catches up to all player but he has answered every challenge of his career. Watch this on youtube also call Kobe Bryant – There is no comparison. I wonder who will be the next MJ or KOBE like player when KB walk away. I bet everyone may not remember all those STATS but they will remember KB is a hell of a scorer and won 5 SHIPS.
Agreed @Real Tech. No need to put LeBron in the discussion… He is just another great player. Like so many other I’ve seen. Period. Never understood MVP on his hands. C’mon. Rose puts him underfoot. I’d pick at least 5 other instead of James: ROSE, RONDO, DURANT, GRIFFIN, BARON, and even WADE has been doing extraordinary thins for his team and for the league. Let’s face. James never showed even more than Carter in his top form.
i wonder when u guys putting all those names on top 10 players. are they really that good? i mean, come on, will wilt chamberlain can do the 100 points in THIS time?? well kobe is so great he accomplished that 81, even MJ doesn’t reach it. i know there’s no need to bring lebron here but since im talking bout this, i watched games of malone, russel, etc, i think MJ, kobe, lebron, shaq are better than them even in their prime…
FOR ME THE BEST EVER PLAYER TO PLAY BASKETBALL IS NO OTHER THN MICHAEL JORDAN, HE SHOWD TO THE WHOLE WORLD THE FAR EXCELLENCE OF A PLAYER,DISCIPLE,ATTITUDE,DEDICATION,COMPETITIVENSS,THE WELL TO WIN AND THE LOVE OF THE GAME HEART AND SOUL YOU CAN COUNT ON HIM…. FOR ME NO ONE CAN DUPLICTE MJ HE IS THE ONE ICONIC TO THE WHOLE WORLD……I THNK IF HE COME BACK TODAY HE WILL STILL AVERAGE DOUBLE FIGURES HE IS MJ THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME………………
Words are not enough to describe Kobe beast mode on the basketball court. Listen folks the man is a freaking animal on the court. The dunk in the Garden over Latrell Sprewell plus the 12 three pointers over Portland. Kobe makes the degree of difficult shots look easy & effortless. Hands down I’m convince that Kobe is knocking on Jordan’s door to be the greatest. The season highlight still doesn’t do justice to how Kobe Awesomeness is a complete DNA of Best Player in the Game hands down. U Haters will appreciate it when its all say & done. I guarantee it.
I will say the best player in the decade now is KOBE BRYANT,,

And remember, stats dont tell the whole story, sometimes you just have to watch the game!!!
As for the Jordan/Kobe argument:
Jordan’s legacy and effect upon the game may never be outdone, he revolutionized basketball!! He had heart incomparable to any other being on earth. HOWEVER, as a basketball player Kobe is better. Jordan has better defense, more heart/hustle and MAY jump higher but every other aspect of basketball Kobe is either equivalent or surpasses him. Kobe shoots better, scores better, dribbles better, passes better he is just a better basketball player.
Jordan will forever have the largest memory/significance in basketball but Kobe is now the best player to ever play the game of basketball.
And remember, stats dont tell the whole story, sometimes you just have to watch the game!!!
When my kids grow up, I’m gonna be telling them stories about Kobe Bryant and that he is one of the greatest NBA player of my generation, and I’ll be showing them Kobe’s Top Ten videos and they’ll be shakin’ their heads in disbelief for sure!
hey! thats not correct, lebron is d best and more talented than kobe! list lebron in top ten he is 6 place for me! kobe i place him in 10
The All Star game is next weekend in where? Los Angeles (Kobe’s Home Court)
Kobe was the leading vote getter of all players for this game.
No love for kobe’s 9 consecutive 3′s and 12 overall?? wasn’t that this season? tsk tsk
