It wouldn’t be a day without some mention of the Carmelo Anthony Saga. (You thought I was going with ‘Melo-drama, didn’t you?) It’s a safe bet that New Jersey owner Mikhail Prokhorov will be asked about the ‘Melo Man during a press conference before Nets-Jazz tonight.
In the meantime, the proposed meeting between the ‘Melo and Prokhorov looks to be back on, according to several reports. Anthony initially denied knowing anything about a sitdown with the Nets, but Mitch Lawrence in the New York Daily News writes the meeting can happen anytime in the next three days.
Prokhorov and the Nets’ bid to get Anthony in a trade before the Feb. 24 deadline remains on hold. But Denver has OK’d a meeting between the Nets and the Nuggets superstar and that could lead the way to a three-team deal that has been in various stages of negotiations for the past few weeks.
Over in the Daily News blog, Frank Isola claims the New York Knicks are still in the running to land Carmelo. The Nets, Isola notes, can still offer a better deal, but ‘Melo still has the hammer on where he wants to go.
Donnie Walsh says he can get two first-round picks for players on the current roster, which would help the Knicks’ chances of landing Carmelo. A Knicks source claims that Walsh would be willing to move Danilo Gallinari, Landry Fields plus Eddy Curry‘s expiring contract in a potential trade for Carmelo.
Still, the Nets deal – which could include as many as three first-round picks – would be a better deal for Denver. But it still comes down to what ‘Melo wants. If he says no to signing an extension with New Jersey, the deal is off. He could wait until the summer to become a free agent and simply sign with the Knicks. Or maybe he’ll do what’s in his heart and re-sign with Denver, which has given him everything he’s wanted and is committed to putting a winner on the court.
Dwyane Wade just went through his own season and summer of speculation, so he can relate to what ‘Melo is going through. D-Wade caught up with Anthony recently in Miami and had this to say:
“He seems like now he’s getting to the point where he’s fed up with it, he’s tired of hearing about it, he just wants to focus on basketball. It’s not really bothering him as much as it was at certain points although no matter what kind of game he has, people are going to say something if he doesn’t score 30.”
Life is so unfair.

Is melo worth all the drama…dont get me wrong anthony is one of the best scorers in the league and can score at will but is he really gonna take a team to the promise land…all these drama is making it seem like he is as good as lebron james…I hate lebron but even i will admit carmelo is not in the class as james
melos not the best layer or scorer in the league but hes the most efficient scorer and put him on a knicks team, avging most ppg for any team in the league, where offense is the most important aspect of bkb than yes hes easily worth the drama.
I think melo will be great for the knicks and is definitely worth the drama, however they will still need one or two more pieces to really make a run for a championship. Melo is a good scorer but not a good defender, average at best.
Look up the 10 top scorers, and you’ll find Carmelo with an unimpressive FG%. I wouldn’t trade Eric Gordon for Melo straight up, as Gordon is outscoring Anthony, and is known as a good defensive player. Carmelo is good because he takes shots with the game on the line. He’s great, but not worth 3 or 4 players who are near great.
melo is not worth all this drama honestly…like dont get me wrong that is the most smoothest ball player in the league he is da most dominate scorer (top 3) but all t his drama is not worthed he doesnt wanna b there obviously he knew NJ was not a good move he know where he wants to b thats NY he should jus finish off the season in DEN see wat type of cinderella story comes out of it then go where he wants to go NY an try t o make something happen the knicks can get somebody else b4 the deadline is up like igaudala or something jus sign him for less money an then pick up MELO over the summer AMARE,MELO,FELTON,IGAUDALA now think about how they will run!!!! HMMMMMM
Iggy won’t be leaving the sixers cheap, Knicks don’t have enough assets unless Gallo and Fields can be packaged
Is Melo playing to the ego of the Nuggets? If Melo shows some cooperation in going to the Nets, will the nuggets feel as if He didn’t dictate the move to the Knicks? In my opinion this is a power struggle. If the Nets package is better then the Knicks, its not overwhelming in my opinion. Give Melo whats he wants. He’s been loyal to Denver, and if you ask me Years ago when Melo came in to the league, I honestly thought he would just be slasher/finisher type player. He exceeded my expectations. He gave Denver some great years. Denver give the man what he wants. Its not like the Knicks are offering Mozegoff, Walker, Rautin, and Eddy Curry’s contract. A trade to the Knicks in a bigger picture wouldn’t only help the Knicks, but the entire league.
melo please wat ever you do please dont go to the nets stay in the nuggets the nets will be such a down grade for the nuggets and you will never be able to get to the playoffs in such a low team cause right now the way you are playing in the nuggets you guys have a pretty good chance of getting in the playoffs
Why can’t people just let Melo be? The man already has enough pressure on his back. Don’t folks have a life other than bothering with what is going on in Melo’s life! Give it a break already people.
I can’t blame melo for being annoyed. Carmelo will probably stick with the nuggets for the rest of this season. Then he’ll try to go to New York.
no hell stick out it out this season without sigining and extension with any team then in free agency go to the knicks we can all see it coming if he wanted to be on the nets the trade would be done already he will be on the knicks
melo is one of the top 10 players in the league and one of the top 5 scorers in the league im a shamed that only the nets are goin so hard for him. if melo wants to win like he says he does he would tell the nets straight up no. his first option should be new york, his birth place and picture the big three of felton stoudamire and melo, 50 wins is possible if they do the trade by the end of the week
Sigh…I hope this stuff ends soon.
This whole Melo speculation thing needs to stop right now. It is getting overplayed and ridiculous. Melo has been nothing but professional throughout the year. He’s playing really hard for Denver right now, and this is getting to a point where nobody cares anymore. The media is becoming so obsessed with writing about where he might be going and speculating that’s its just becoming a nuisance. Give the man a break. At least he’s not putting on a one hour tv special to humiliate his team. He’s playing hard and he doesn’t deserve any of the crap treatment NBA.com and other basketball/sport websites are giving him. Leave him alone. Let him be. Let him make his decision, and then you can talk. Let him play basketball and stop writing ridiculous articles based on pure speculation and with little to no facts. How would you feel if you were in Melo’s position, and you were just trying to focus on helping your basketball team win games, and all around you the media is going crazy and creating stupid rumours about you? Even bringing Melo’s wife into this…what the hell? Leave them both alone. He’ll come to a decision when he’s ready. Until then, go write articles on something else. Because this is just getting ridiculous now, and Melo DOES NOT deserve this type of trash treatment you guys on NBA.com and other websites are giving him.
carmelo anthony goes to the knicks then without question knicks become better than hawks, bulls, and if they recieved a solid low post defender even the magic
if Knicks get Melo as free agrent, MAYBE better than the Bulls. We haven’t seen the Bulls with Noah and Boozer on the court together. I would say Knicks with Melo would be even at best with Knicks. What they got for Gallinari would determine whether a healthy Knicks team could be better than a healthy Bulls squad. VERY EVEN
it is so obvious that melo wants to play in the worlds most famous arena an that is madison square garden as a new york knick. This deal to the Nets would have happened already because its all in melo’s hands to say to NJ yes i will sign that big contract but he is refusing to an cant really say WELL i am gonna wait for the end of the year an sign with the Knicks because we all know that is what he wants to do an basically is saying to everyone that knows the game….
Yes! Now the Knicks can offer Denver T.Douglas, B.Walker, A.Randolph & our 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 1st round Draft picks!!!! Let’s go Donnie, time to work! Let’s not forget Isiah Tomas still works for the Knicks and he drafted L. Fields in the 2nd round. so for the next 4-5 years the Knicks can draft good 2nd round picks. Plus still have money for CP3 That would give the Knicks a great team for years to come.
That would be a terrible deal for Denver as the picks would be low 1st rounders if Knicks had Melo and CP3. They would be insane to do that dream boy
That would be a very generous offer for Denver to take. Seeing as they might not get anything for him if mello desides to play the year out in Denver! If i was Denvers GM i would respect Mello and give him what he want’s. i would take whatever the Knicks have to offer! Denver still has a good team without Mello.
He should definently go to the knicks…. its obvious he want to play with Amare…
it would ut him in a better seat and have another great score where he will win more and wont have to do so much!
its all about team
i think melo is liking this drama,, to give him more fame and in tha end more money….knicks or nuggets
Melo is probably not worth all this drama.the lebron thing made a lot of ppl a lot of money and now the media is trying to ride this wave and milk it the only way they know how.
there is a reason that every team has shown interest but nobody is really jumping on a deal including Melo.
As everybody said he is a great player and one of the only players in the league that needs to be doubled but he is also not the type of leader that will bring in championships on his own.Melo has barely never passed the first round of the playoffs despite having pretty good potential on his teams.
but add a couple more stars in the mix and Melo becomes a huge threat.he wont re-sign in denver so if the nuggets want to get something in return they better act fast or they will be the next cleveland and directly be responsible for another teams championship run just how Memphis was with that preposterous Gasol trade.
imagine if denver doesnt manage to ship melo out before the deadline expires and he ends up in NY.that would be insane.this is already Kobe’s last chance for a ring since Miami pretty much owns the future but Melo in NY could make next season even more interesting than this one already is.just think at all the space Melo would create for Amare on top of Gallinari that already draws a big men beyond the 3pt line since u simply have to respect his shot.a quality player like Chandler would come off the bench and u never know what other free agents might want to join the party in hopes of a ring.the d’antoni offense machine would be rolling and crushing teams but as long as they dont defend they ll always be susceptible to better defensive teams in the playoffs on bad shooting nights but u never know.regardless this could get interesting.
i dont understand what the nets where thinking.this is an organization that already messed up a championship team and got rid of many great players.this was there chance at a quick comeback and a chance to aim at CP3 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.it ll take a long time and lots of luck for NJ to recover
barely passed the first round?!?!? they went 6 games in the western conference finals just a couple of seasons ago against LA and did a pretty good job with the current team they have minus Al Harrington. you obviously do not follow the playoffs or good players. Melo has not needed a big 3 or superstar team to win 50 plus games a season. The Nuggets have done it with great role players and their superstar. If I were the Nuggets, I would do everything to keep Melo happy in Denver and somehow bring in Rip Hamilton from Detroit. With Nene, Martin, Melo, Rip, and Billups….and a bench which includes Harrington, JR smith and Birdman…they could hang with anyone. If Anthony does not stay in Denver, it will be due to not bringing someone to the Nuggets by this trade deadline to have a serious shot at winning in Denver, and will be due to him leaving via free agency next year to the Knicks.
whats wrong with a 1hour tv special.. melo would wish he was as good, talented, famous, and paid as lebron, kobe, dwade etc. thats y he wants this special
Just trade him to the Knicks already! The big three of Stodumire, Felton, and Anthony is waiting. Go to the Knicks so they at least have a chance of winning the Conference Finals.
Knicks would disassemble their team to get a guy for 40 games. Cool your jets, and get Melo as a free agent, and see what you can get for Gallinari, as Melo and him both play SF. This year is a teaser, to give the league notice that the Knicks are on the rise. Like the Clippers, this season is an extended pre season for next year
Hey Melo, just go to NY Knicks. You are welcome there and have great opportunity to shine more and get a ring!!
LOOK EVERYONE, MELO NEEDS TO COME TO THE BULLS, FELTON IS NOTHING COMPARED TO D.ROSE, N WE HAVE A TRUE CENTER IN NOAH, A TRUE POWER FOWARD IN BOOZ, A TRUE POINT GUARD, AND ALL IS NEEDED IS A TRUE SCORER IN MELO!! MELO PLEASE C THE LIGHT!! THE KNICKS AINT GOT NUN ON THE BULLS SERIOUSLY!!! WERE ALREADY A BETTER TEAM THEN THEM!! WE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO GET TO THE FINALS AND WIN!!
LETS GET IT!!
GO BULLS!! D.ROSE MVP!!
uhm, no.
The Knicks are 2-0 vs the Bulls this season. Who”s better?
you could be right. We haven’t seen the Bulls starting 5 yet. Maybe they are ready to cause damage in the playoffs. I don’t know if Melo is the guy the Bulls need.
The Bulls cannot I repeat CANNOT afford Carmelo. You guys spent wayyyy too much money on Boozer
Well..it seems like a declared “war”… I would to say him on the line with Knicks!!!
Worth it!!!
chicago 97 the knicks beat the bulls twice dummy. Melo needs to go to the knicks and end this once and for all.
with these guys getting together trying 2 form vo-tran melo better pick the right team and it aint the knickerbockers D-Rose is the best of the rest people. D ROSE=MVP
yeah thats why they beat you twice already.
carmelo needs a healthy michael jordan to win a championship! he’s a great back up but not a franchise player.
look at the nuggets he got martin birdman billups and smith but still they failed to reach the finals because melo is their franchise player he is their MAN he’s good but not great.
Carmelo is a franchise player. Where was Denver before he came in the league? The worst team in the league. Melo has been in the NBA 7 yrs. And in those 7 years, the Nuggets have been a consistent face in the playoffs, even reaching the conference finals. The team he has now is built to fight for a playoff spot but not contend for a championship. Billups is an aging point gaurd who, at times can be inconsistent, but still trust worthy to handle a team. Kenyon Martin? You really mentioned him!? A guy who can’t stay healthy, has no knees, no explosiveness anymore? He’s a bench player at this point in his career. Birdman is a good help defender and rebounder, but struggles one on one in the post. J.R. Smith is wildly inconsistent and takes way too many poor shots. There really isn’t a lot on Denver’s team right now. Denver needs another low post guy to help out Nene, a Sefelosha type defender, and another spark plug off the bench to go along with Ty Lawson to replace J.R.’s inconsistency. I would love to see him stay in Denver though. He just needs more help. Look at Kobe. Not that big of a fan of his, but once the Lakers gave him the talent, his game took off. I enjoy watching stars stay with a team and create their own legacy, i.e. Duncan, Pierce, Kobe, Jordan, Reggie Miller
kobe said that melo was the leader of the USA team in 2008..smh
the knicks already have beat chicago 2 time this year what you are taking about and amare is the mvp
The knicks beat chicago twice you are right. But, chicago has been injured all year, and tend to play down to weaker competition. All the knicks fans can get mad, but chicago has proven this by loses to teams like the bobcats and so on. Lets make some facts Amares knicks barely over 500; Roses bulls 3rd in the east so please stop with amare for MVP he is just like he was in phoenix a selfish player with no defense and by adding melo they will be the worst defense in the nba. If Amare couldn’t win with one of the best point guards steve nash, joe johnson, shawn marion, he is not going to win with melo either so stop. The knicks have always been the laughing stock of the nba, and how can amare be considered for mvp on that sorry barely above 500 team so stop.
See if I had it my way, Melo would be coming off the bench 6th man style for the Celtics, and then everyone can watch a Super Dynasty team own the league for years to come. But that’s not going to happen. So truthfully I can see 1 of 2 different things happen in Melo’s future. 1. He allows the Nuggets to trade him to the Knicks, out of respect for the Nuggets and then he would still be loved in Denver and get to play for a playoff potential team. OR 2. He stays in Denver with the ultimatum that Chauncey gets traded for another piece to the puzzle (Maybe an aging Zachary Randolph type player or a disgruntled Troy Murphy) and then they wait for CP3 to come to them, and then they have a great East vs West battle and the NBA stays more balanced.
I do agree with everyone saying that this is getting blown out of proportion and the reporters need to lay off of Melo and his family and let the man decide when the time is right. If we are all talking about it, who’s to say that the whispers aren’t happening in the locker room as well, and that really affects a team.
All in all I wish Melo the best of luck in any decision he makes, and if he ends up in the East, good luck against the Bulls, Magic and especially the Celtics (the Heat are missing too many pieces and we will see that in the playoffs)
Carmelo has all the sidekicks before when they face the lakers in the conf. finals but just couldnt win it. .He lacks CHARACTER. .Character completes everything not just being talented but the totality of being a great basketball player..
He just couldnt lead, and for you sure, even if the Nets will land you, still no championship is assured.
I think Melo has grown up since their conference final run. We don’t know how he is in the locker room, but you can see the growth and maturity in him now, especially with the way he’s handled the trade talks. Especially when he heard Billups’ name come up in the deal. He knew how important it was to Billups to finish his career in a Nugget uniform, in his hometown and really stood up and felt bad for him. If I was in Billups’ position and I heard Melo standing up for me, I would play harder for him and have more respect for him. The team would feed off of that also. Gotta remember, he’s still 26!
If the entire nets proposal went down, it would have been a pleasure to watch.. the chemistry between Billups & melo is great. however between Hamilton and Billups is undeniable. Along with the addition of Brook Lopez still remaning at the Nets, it would have been a pretty decent team.. moving to the knicks? yes it would be a strong, but not dominant combo w/ melo/amare. Melo was originally a SF, but hes worked so much on his post game that he uses his perimeter game only to compliment his post nowadays, when it should be the other way around. Melo would only then be stealing Wilson Chandler’s thunder that he’s built up with the new Knicks team.
People who think Melo is coming o chicago are Fools of Stone. He is Coming to the Knicks and that is final. Melo just should embarse the Nuggets and go to The Knicks in the Summer of 2011.
hahahahhahahhhahhahahahahha. That what the Nuggets get for being so follish.
Good call from Phrokorov to call off the deal! it’s hard to sacrifice everything when it’s not worth it
If carmelo is going to the knicks, New York would be a threat to everyone. carmelo has the ability to make his own shots and create shots for the others. Amare and carmelo is a good combo but they would really need a guard that would lead them and be able to utilize these perennial all stars and thier skills. If the Knicks gets lucky and gets Carmelo in thier crew they might want to get a veteran guard. In my opinion the Suns are trying to rebuild and Nash really needs a ring. This situation is really good for the knicks as a follow up move and will definetly help their chance for a ring. Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Head coach Mike D’antoi another good team in the east.
put carmelo on the knicks and the knicks will implode…..you cant put melo and amare on the same team…..if amare doesnt get his solo shining light , he will not be happy……the reason why he left the suns is for the spotlight and to live up to his name…STAT…..melo will take so much away from that…..wont work
go to bulls not to ny NY is a scoring team they need some Def melo has no Defense
KOBE TO NJ!
Melo should choose the Knicks, it will be a hard fought, dog fight basketball in the east with amare on his side.
Melo should be trade to the LAKERS team who is suffering right now. They need two scoring machine to be name as a championship contender.
lol why choose a team in the eastern conference where you need to beat the 3 superstars from the heat, the great boston celtics and power team of orlando, while if you go west 1-8 position in playoff ranking is anybody’s game.
D-Rose
Whoever
Melo
Boozer
Noah=championship how does #7sound 2 my bulls comrads
The best possible place for melo would be clippers. Think about it, all clipers need is a good small forward and they can only get better in years. Imagine BDiddy, Gordon, Melo, Griffin and Kaman in same lineup! Plus next years first round pick from Clippers could be a good one for Denver, as well as 2 good young players in Aminu and Bledsoe. And LA is a nice town to live in, especially when you are rich and famous….
MELO to the hornets?
CP3,MELO,D.WEST
i think melo should go to houston i mean we could give the nuggets yao ming shane battier and lots of young talent.seriously thin of AARON BROOKS,KEVIN MARTIN,MELO AND SCOULA
think of AB,K-MART,MELO,and LOUIS SCOLA
melo go to rockets
Melo is going g to the Lakers!(I wish), but for real he should go to the Knicks. Next season.
We need him in New York to bring excitment back at the garden. im a knicks fan since 87 and the Knicks Deserve a player such as him.
Hack bring Melo to Miami!!! Why not?? WADE JAMES and BOSH!!!!
Hack bring Melo to Miami!!! Why not?? WADE JAMES and BOSH!!!!!
LOL Im kidding ^^^^^^^^
I think melo should meet with the nets because with a player of his talent and a team like the nets. He can bring a big impact to the rest of these young nets players. Especially when you have a chance to bring in Melo with Rip hamilton, but I do think that since they shouldnt bring chauncey billups, they should try to get Chris Paul. Then you have a solid pg, a beast sg and the second best sf in the league. with this lineup that i have recommended, the nets can go from where they are, to making the playoffs and having a chance to shut the heat up.
OR Melo Could come to the Rockets
LAKERS (But go to New York Knicks)
NEW YORK CAN’T ACQUIRE MELO IF GALLINARI AND FIELDS WILL BE GONE. THE KNICKS SHOULD WAIT FOR THE FREE AGENCY OF MELO FOR THEM TO BE A CONTENDER.
MELO SHOULD JUST TAC HIS ASS TO DA KNICKS N STOP WASTEN EVREY BODY TIME MELLO IS MY BEST NBA BASKET BALL STAR BUT IF HE WNT TO GET CLOSE TO A RING TEAM UP WIT STUDMIAIR N I DNT NO IF DA ROOMER TRUE ABOUT MELO GOIN TO HEAT WELL IF HE IS TAC HIS ASS THIEIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
