About Last Night: Chi-Town Shines

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – Two of Chicago’s finest NBA products were on display in Tuesday night’s Bull-Lakers Fan Night matchup on NBA TV.

Derrick Rose and Shannon Brown helped cap a light (six-game) night around the league with one of the more dazzling displays of offense from opposing players in the same game.

Rose drops jaws with nearly every move. He is quickly becoming one of the most unstoppable forces in the league with the ball in his hands . But Brown’s game is blossoming as well, albeit in a totally different role as one of the main cogs off a much-improved bench for the Lakers.

It wasn’t a good night for everyone, though. The Hawks found themselves on the wrong side of the fence for the second straight night, losing in New Jersey in overtime. But the Pacers, Mavericks and Wizards (thanks to the return of John Wall) all woke up this morning feeling pretty good about themselves. You can see it all in the Daily Zap:

And why wait until Thursday to give thanks when you’ve got our main man “McBob” in the Top Plays from last night:

Last nights performance should put the rest any idea the Noah is not worth his extension or should have been traded for Carmelo Anthony. The guy never quits or takes a play off for the entire time he is in the line up. I’ve seen no center handle Gasol the way he did in last night’s game, he gave him fits the entire night. No he can’t really shoot but so what he is ALWAYS around the ball and does all the little things that make a winner. If Melo were to somehow join this current Bulls team then Boston, Orlando, Miami and anyone else in the East could just hang it up.

Watching the Lakers was frightening. Its just not FAIR, not only do they arguably have the best front line in the NBA, now they have TWO front lines. That bench of Brown, Blake, and Barnes (with Odom when Bynum returns) is a front line unit on any other team. No matter what the cost (save Noah) Chicago should have pulled the trigger on a deal to bring Shannon Brown to the Bulls. They need a number two guard and Brown has matured into a top flight second guard. Now he will probably smoothly transition into Fisher’s spot on the team in a couple of years, with a corresponding hike in salary.

The Bulls should’ve never got carlos loser, They should’ve saved money and got Al Jefferson who’s a lot better in my opinion. Shannon B has developed a nice 3 point shot. I have to admit that Noah has all hustle that’s why he has been in the top 5 in rebounds. If the Bulls happen to get Melo I agree my hometown team would be a force. I still say the bulls should fine Boozer for every game missed, he’s soft and to claim to get injured taking out trash at home is quite suspicious. What a waste of money he really has to prove that he’s worth the money they paid him. The bulls would be better off without him!!

Lets not be so hasty, at least wait until he plays a game or two before you lay into him. I actually believe that his skills could have tipped the balance in the Laker game and can in many games yet to follow. How he hurt his hand is really not important, he would be just as hurt if he injured it in practice or a game. It is the frequency of his injuries that are of concern.

Everyone says that Chicago needs a good #2 guard to complement Rose and Brown could have easily fit that role on the Bulls. It is not just his 3 point shot that has improved it is his entire game, passing, shooting and defense have all been kicked up a notch. The Lakers proved (ie Mitch Kupchak) they knew what they were doing when they kept Brown and let Farmar go.

The Bulls should have gone after Wesley Mathews; he’s got great upside and has shown that he can step up his game when his team needs him. As a a second-year player, he could have developed alongside the rest of Chicago’s still-young lineup.

Brown’s definitely a much improved player, but could he flourish as a starter? Would he be as productive playing in a system other than the triangle and without the attention his Laker teammates command?
