Artest Sings Redemption’s Song

Posted by Sekou Smith

LOS ANGELES – Kobe Bryant walked out of the Staples Center Thursday night with his fifth NBA title and his second straight Finals MVP. He praised the “Spaniard” [Pau Gasol] specifically for all his help in reaching this career milestone.

The MVP on this night, however, was none other than Ron Artest.

No one walked out of the building without seeing that, not after his 20 points, five rebounds, five steals and iron will helped drag the Lakers back from a 13-point deficit to beat back a Celtics team that controlled the action for much of the night.

“Ron Artest was the most valuable player tonight,” Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. “He brought life to our team, he brought life to the crowd.”

When he replaced Trevor Ariza on the roster and in the starting lineup last summer, Artest made it clear that if the Lakers did not return to this space and place and win another title that it would be on his broad shoulders.

Those would be the same shoulders that carried the Lakers throughout one of their uglier games in these playoffs (32 percent shooting from the floor and 67 percent from the free throw line). While Bryant and Gasol struggled early to manage their games through tough nights, Artest was a vision.

He was all over the floor. He drained a 3-pointer with 61 seconds to play that helped the Lakers finish off the Celtics in a dramatic Game 7 that was full of twists and turns, many of which Artest played a hand in with his stifling defense on Celtics captain Paul Pierce, and timely work on offense.

In the 2008 Finals, these same Celtics were able to choke the Lakers out in six games by smothering Bryant. They knew he’d want revenge and would do anything he had to in order to get it. That usually means Bryant will have an explosive scoring night and find a way to impact a game in whatever way he can.

Not this time.

“He didn’t have to,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “Artest was unbelievable.”

The rest of the Celtics knew it, too.

This was their Game if Artest hadn’t played the way he did.

“Artest was the difference in the game,” Big Baby Davis said. “He wanted it. He took it from us.”

It’s been a wild ride for Artest since he charged into the stands at the Palace of Auburn Hills on that fateful November night in 2004, when he played for the Indiana Pacers. The brawl that ensued and the fallout — Artest was suspended for 73 games, the remainder of that season, and held up as the scourge of professional sports for an ugly affair that won’t soon be forgotten.

Flanked by family, a still giddy Artest addressed all that and more in a wonderfully rambling post-game session in the media work room that has to go down as an instant classic, a cathartic one you actually have to see to believe.

He apologized for those past transgressions, for those teammates he “quit” on because he was young and egotistical — his words.

This night was about not only the Lakers winning a title, but Artest’s own personal rise from the ashes. No longer the punch line of a joke, he exited the building doing all the laughing.

“The history of me in the playoffs, which I need to get better at, is playing more consistently throughout the playoffs,” Artest said. “Today is one of those days where I trusted in myself and I didn’t settle for some shots. I kind of at the right time did exactly what Coach wanted me to do. I just got to thank Coach Jackson for having me and Kobe and the Lakers for giving me this opportunity, and I’m really, really just enjoying this, and I just can’t wait to go to the club.”

  6. Raphz says:

yes, artest is for some reason why the lakers got the ring. bt of course kobe and gasol are the main guyz and ron is the 3rd but the deciding factor of the team. we know kobe and gasol are target of the celtics’ defense especially to kobe who is facing 2 or 3 opponents at the same time. if ron plays well then a very big chance the lakers will win. a team will always need a 3rd guy offensively. just like the bulls had kukoc and the magic-jabbar teamed lakers had worthy. its because the 3rd guy has less pressure compared to the 1st and 2nd. it was very good that the lakers have ron artest and indeed he was the MVP for that game but it really is KOBE who lead the fight and carry the torch to victory. theres no “I” in team as always.

  7. noslen says:

yah! true ron is my mvp in game 7 but in a whole series its kobe is the man, the mvp!!!!! thnx celtics 4 a wonderful game that we ever see. sorry but LA was the champ. go lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Cian Washington says:

Why did Lebron’s name even enter this conversation…this was about Ron Artest and the Lakers…Lebron has nothing to do with it, and for the record until Lebron can manage to win a ring Kobe will always be better. I can’t believe people have the audacity to say that Lebron did not have a team…Please! Shaq even out of his prime is still a good center, Z is a good center, Mo Williams can play, Antwan Jamison, I’m not going to go any further but he had a team…..at the end of the day it just didn’t happen. but back to the topic at hand congratulations L.A. and great job Ron Ron,,,I’m loving this because I’m one of the only people I know that felt that letting Ariza go and picking up Artest was a great move…..lets see it resulted in a ring…..

  11. think says:

    @reasons?

if the 96 bulls were to play todays celtics, what would happen?

    mj vs. allen = mj
harper vs. rondo = harper, harper is long and quick enough to prevent rondo to have an amazing game
pippen vs. pierce = pippen is better than ron both defensively and OFFENSIVELY
rodman vs. garnett = kg wont score at this age against rodman in his heydays
longley vs. perkins = longley shoots jumpers… taking perk out of his defensive comfort zone… luc doesnt have to defend perk

do you think the celtics would even go the distance of forcing game 7 with that bulls? i dont think so.

i dont think these lakers are even competent enough to battle againts the pacers (w/c took the bulls to 7 games)… and more so they could take out that seattle team (payton, kemp, shrempf, hawkins, perkins + 7 deep bench) in a finals game

just think bro… if kobe was playing during the defense-oriented time of the 90’s, he would always do what he did in game 7… selfish-poor-shooting-performance-that-he’s-just-happy-he-was-bailed-out-by-teammates… the celtics arent half the physical tough teams jordan’s opponents were back then… and kobe just lay eggs against this team… tsktsk

    just think bro… just think…

you guys just won… please don’t spoil it by being st*pid..

GASOL — The best BIG MAN .

KOBE – The GREATEST of his Generation

    RON – The IRON MAN

ODOM – The best Sixth Man

BYNUM – The 2nd Best BIG MAN

FISHER – The Bravest Shooter of All Time.

PHIL – The next NBA Commisioner (LoL)…..

  14. olegna says:

    tp mj ur father,
your time is up so better accept that kobe deserves to be the mvp of the finals, lebron needs more time and he’s nothing to prove that he is ‘King’ michael jordan proved himself so does kobe this time… go Lakers for a grandslam!!!

  15. bokpabs says:

ron ron you deserve to be the mvp of the night you’ve shown maturity on and off the court, you’ve said that you’re sorry from the past ugly experiences…I salute you and continue to be one of the best defensive player ever….congrats bro… you deserve to be champion as a laker…

  16. hector says:

    KB24 > MJ23 & LBJ23???

kobe is better than lebron, no doubt about that but kobe better than his airness? you do not know your nba histroy my friend.

Game 7 is the greatest testament that kobe is not better than mj. In a critical game where kobe should step up, he shot a dismal 6 of 24 from the field, thats 25 percent shooting. The Celtics defense was a mess in game 7 against kobe, he just did not make the right decision when to take the shots. He was trying very hard to grab all the credit in the lakers winning another championship. Kobe better than MJ, thats funny.

  17. jov says:

@MJ YOUR FATHER, you think west is powerless? seems like you know nothing bout basketball my friend, the west teams has had the best records for the past 3 years and they’ve been the hardest conference. Just because you see 2-3 teams standing out in the east (magic, cavs, celtics) doesn’t mean the west is less competitive.

on to the topic, artest was the wild card of the series, we all know the C’s will leave him open and dare him to shoot. he did his part in some games and lost 1-2 games for the lakers in other games. it was a total team effort. its amazing how dumb people are when they say things like “without _____ the lakers wouldnt have won” of course they need everybody. hell one can argue without PJ, MJ wouldnt have won those rings or vice versa, but it doesnt really matter cuz this is a “team game” sheeeees people use your mind if you have one..

    • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

USE YOUR MIND, I THINK YOU ARE THOSE EXCENTRIC FANS THAT ALWAYS DON`T SEE REALITY. YOU WIN A GAME THAT ALMOST LOSE, 7 GAMES AGAINST AN OLD TEAM? THE WESTERN CONFERENCE GAMES THE LAKERS SWEPT THEM, PUT LAKERS CAVS, MAGIC AND CELTICS IN THE SAME CONFERENCE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN?
UTAH IS NOTHING, SUNS ARE GOOD BUT NOT BETTER, OKC TOO YOUNG BUT FACING CAVS AND MAGIC NO NO NO IT`S HARD.

RONRON. . AKA TRUE WARRIOR. Really Deserves to call himself by that alias. He really fought well last nyt.
Hey Media guys. . forgot the TRUE WARRIOR identity. . Congrats Ron and IDOL Kobe, Pau, Fish. . Lots of Love to LA LA Land

  19. Nektarios says:

    Let’s see the players….
    1. Ron played great. Thanks to him and Gausol Lakers won 7th game.
    2. Kobe had 2- 3 players guarding him, so he tried to make plays for his teammates. Also, he saw that if i can’t score i should go for rebounds. Some smart plays too.
    3. Gausol was excellent in Playoffs. European style !
    4. Buynum unlucky again! I will still wait for him being healthy to see some action!
    5. Odom I want more from him
    6. Farmar Exploded when team wanted him
    7. Vujasic Some good shots when needed. Needs more playtime.
    8. Walton What happened this year?
    9. Mbenga Try much harder. Such a body wasted…
    10. Brown Get more confined next year and he will help his team
    11. Artest Best defender. Great energy. Needs to play more with brain though.
    12. Fisher Great ball handler, great hustle, silent power.

7th game was the worst game in playoffs ! I understand it was the championship that made players shoot 30%. Anyway it was a game of defense study.

Anyway this was a great season. Such great players in all teams. I need to see more of some other teams… I hope to draft good players.

Coach Jacksonm please stay in L.A. Basketball needs personalities like you.

  25. pottok says:

Kobe can be really thankfull to Pau, so he should have been to the Shaq…. without those guys, he’ll still be battling to get his first ring…
M.J never had a big center, and had by the way a much better f.g pourcentage, played way more classy then Kobe will ever be able to
Boston plays team sport; L.A displays a one-man show, with stars (Gasol, Odom, Artest) surrounding Mr Capricious, to make sure it gets in one way or another, plus Mr Zen to take care of the plan; plus Bynum (young star on the rise), plus Fish (old star on the rise). Yeah sure, won’t you add Bosh, just to make it sure you can’t lose…
Kobe is able to loose some nba finals (how can u loose with Malone, Payton and Shaq? ask the guy, he knows how….); Jordan, for himself, doesn’t loose in Finals, and is always finals mvp, whereas K…..

    • matt says:

MJ had Pippen who was so good that the bulls without MJ went to the eastern confernece finals.

    • think says:

right about that… LA was a one man show… kobe tried to carry his team on his shoulders in game 7… but it seemed though that his teammates carried him… kobe cost the championship… but his teammates just bailed him out… i hope he’d see that… he aint no MVP… Gasol is, and so is fish, and so is artest, and so is lamar… all the games theyve won, kobe was just bailed-out…

without ron-ron lakers won’t won against boston.artest did a good job on defense from game 1-5. then from game 6-7 he made all the defense and scoring for the lakers.so without him lakers wont be able to have its 16 nba tittle

  27. Arwind Santos says:

well Berdugo do u think the LAKERS can win without Ron?can Kobe guard Paul Pierce?no yeah he his passing when he already misses a lot..he is a great player but in this series for me he is not the MVP it should be Gasol or Artest they did the major damage to the celtic’s but to win this Championship it needs the whole team let’s give a credit to all of them it’s a team effort the bench also contributed well..

  29. Anissa says:

I have many times myself criticized Ron’s game and questioned his role not only as a Laker but an NBA player. Last night I had to take back all the negative criticism and applaud last night’s MVP: Mr. Ron Artest. His role last night is why we have the 2010 Championship. After watching his interview I recognized a man who himself has struggled with confidence in his game and that win last night I hope will infuse confidence and trust in himself to recognise that he is in the NBA for a reason- because he CAN play ball like a champ. Sometimes our own lack of confidence hinder us and perhaps that is why he is not consistent. I look forward to watching him play next season, ENJOY YOUR WIN RON!

  30. Ruffhouse says:

    Michael Jordan 6 rings, 6 mvp’s
    Kareem Abdul Jabaar 6 rings, 2 mvp’s
    Magic Johnson 5 rings, 3 mvp’s
    Shaquille O’Neal 4 rings, 3 mvp’s
    Kobe Bryant 5 rngs, 2 mvp’s

What’s the one glaring difference between Kobe and the rest of these people on this list? I know. Everyone else on this list were top 3 picks and won all types of college awards. Neither one of these people were Kobe. Kobe was a skinny little kid who went 13th in the draft and only had 1 30 point game in high school. With Kobe being mentioned in the same category as these players are utterly ridiculous. Only a great player can do what Kobe has done. The kidding thing is it isn’t over with yet.

  31. Noli O says:

EXTRAORDINARY LAKERS!!! WHAT SEPARATES THEM FROM THE REST OF NBA TEAMS IS THE LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT THEY GIVE THAT MAKES THEM A CHAMPION…

  32. Beowulf says:

LA rules again! Celtics have made it to the Finals by using the whole arsenal of cheap plays and foults on almost every posesion. Somehow they got away with it. I have seen so many bad calls against their opponents I can’t even remember. Their so called “good defense” is nothing else than “foult all the time and hope we get a no-call in crucial moments”. In a fair game they would be swept by the Cavs, let alone the Lakers. If the referees were honest the Celtics would lose half of the team by the end of the first quarter with foult trouble.
Artest made some crucial plays down the stretch. But you guys forget he lost us the games 4 and mostly 5 with a lot of bad decisions at the end of the game. Bryant was fenomenal in game 5. The only one who made something happen. And nobody else showed up to help. If they were than there would be no game 7 and LA would finish Boston in 6. Kobe is the MVP, no doubt. Pau, Fish, Lamar and Artest were great when we needed them the most, but I can’t imagine LA wining this without Kobe who gets 2-4 defenders on him anytime he has the ball.

  33. IXTRINSITY says:

KOBE is a GOAT??? come’on… you dont win 5 rings being a goat… tell that to LeBronGAYmes… sure KObe was bad from the field but he did other things(15 boards) for his team to win.. and by just merely being on the floor attracting that attention from the defense he’s already creating a lot of things for his teamates… one.. two. three.. four… could i get another more?? five!!! six?? seven?? eight?? hahaha… go for it black mamba… great night for ron ron too… truely the diffrence maker for the night… and for PAUL PIERCE… come’on man… just say it… ron ron just kicked your butt… wahahahaha

  34. Ruffhouse says:

artest was the reason they hung around last night.

  35. Matt says:

Taking nothing away from Ron (and every other Laker that contributed) but how about Sasha Vujacic nailing the two crunch free throws. He’s brought on by Jackson specifically to get fouled and nail two shots and does just that (after playing a handful of minutes earlier in the game and taking maybe two other shots, and seeing his team mates struggle from the line for much of the game).

  36. LeGacy says:

LET ME HEAR YOU KNOW!!! QUEENSBRIDGE!!!!!

  37. Dvoice says:

As a fan of basketball, I’d like to thanks the Celtics for making 2010 NBA finals an interesting one to watch. In the end, my Lakers are just TOO BIG and in the game of basketball the big guys will eventually wear down the little guys (whether it is in the NBA or street basketball). That’s why Magic said you guys ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. Get some big players and I’d like to see you guys in another battle with the Lakers. Thanks to both teams it was very entertaining. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

  41. Malcolm says:

Is Kobe better than MJ right now. NO. But when he retires I truly believe it should be considered. I understand what you’re talking about when you say look at the points because yes MJ had eight 30 point seasons to Kobe’s three. But there other players if you just look at points who could be considered greater than MJ. Such as Wilt Chamberlain who averaged 50 points one year and 40 point another year. While averaging over 20 rebounds!!! That is ridiculous. Also there is Elgin Baylor who at 6’5 was averaging 33 pints and 14 rebounds. That is crazy as well. But none of these guys are greater than MJ in my opinion because to me there are other aspects you have to consider. Such as, in my mind in order to be the greatest you have to be a winner. Period. Great players win. Thats why Elgin Baylor can never be considered the greatest because he never one a championship. I know some people dont like to put a lot of emphasis on championships but this is what separates the good players from the greats and the greats from the best. This is why for now I will not put LeBron in the same breath as Kobe because he has not one a ring yet. And to me now that Kobe has 5. He needs to win at least two to for me to start talking about him and Kobe in the same breath. Another thing that you have to do figure out who is the best is see if they were an all around player MJ was a great defensive player 9 all NBA Defensive first team. Kobe has 8. He’s pretty close. You also need to be clutch which is Jerry West aka Mr. clutch was considered the greatest for a long time because he would make it when it counts. Now the one obvious thing that you have to have which separates Kobe from Robert Horry ( who actually fits the categories I have listed) is that you do have to have the stats and all though MJ has better stats than Kobe. Kobe came in at 18 and was not getting the minutes he needed plus he wasnt as mature as he is now. But Kobe’s career is not over yet and although I MJ is the greatest I truly believe that Kobe deserves great consideration. But only time will tell

  45. david says:

Good job Ron-Ron defending paulina pierce superstar. You deserve it although that was one of the worst nba finals ive seen in my life for both teams.

  46. Tom says:

LA won due to their dominance on the offensive boards. I knew that LA would most likely win if Boston could not stop those 2nd, 3rd and even 4th attempts LA was making. LA’s field goal percentage was horrendous in the first half, especially in the first but those multiple shot attempts kept them close enough. Boston fought hard right to the end with Rondo hitting a huge 3 point shot with under a minute left in the game but too little to late as now LA was now hitting the big shots. Boston had their chances in this game especially to put LA away but LA’s will and determination to win was too much. Ron Artest played an outstanding game. I was most impressed. If he can continue to do that on a more regular basis he will be a deadly opponent. I am sad to see Boston lose but at least they did make LA have to earn the title and didn’t just give up like Cleveland did against Boston in the east semi-finals. That was a pathetic scene. Both teams have hearts of a champion but LA deserves and has earned the right to retain their championship. I honestly think they can get a three-peat since they should only get better and Boston won’t be near as good next season and I highly doubt LeBron will stay in Cleveland. I think he will go to the Bulls but even with the Bulls that won’t be enough just yet for the Bulls to win a championship.

See why we loved Phil Jackson in Chicago. He is really an awesome coach.

Also: Please don’t compare this team to the Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls. They are nowhere near as good as that team and yes they did have a strong competitor in Utah in the latter years but they weren’t the only good team the Bulls had to battle either.

  47. tracshortie says:

Gd morning to all, first I will like to give a warm sincere congratulations to the Boston Celtics. There is no reason for the Celtics to hang their heads or be ashamed to let out any feelings. Lets take a it a step back last yr and early this year the name Boston Celtics did not exist, however Doc Rivers laid low and kept on beliving in himself and his guys. Rivers knew what the Celtics were capable and as a result his faith did not deter. Beating the two best teams in the East and then facing and automatic finals bid La Lkers is more than a miracle but a blessing. The Celtics showed heart, determination, poise, and the will to win. Unfortunately the Lakers had the final say as two of the NBA’s best teams went head-to-head in a game 7. History was made last night, with Perkins out, terrible offensive rebounding, turnovers by Ray Allen Celtitcs still held the lead for three qrts. Celticsa were able to contain Kobe for the entire game not allowing him to make easy shot, however Artest came ready to play. Though the Lakers bench was a non factor, every guy that was put into the ball game made it their business to make something happen. This is the one time that I have seen the Lakers players actually sincerely believed that they can with out Kobe having a 30pt plus game. They all wanted it, they felt it and they rallied for the win. The LA Lakers repeated as the NBA Champions for a second year as the story goes Phil Jackson always win in threes. Therefore next year will be another story to tell for the LA Lakers as they go into the 2010-2011 season as the favorites once again. CONGRATULATIONS LA LAKERS…..never thought I would be saying this being that its no secret that I am a BOSTON fan. Also a special thank you to Glen Davis you played well throughout the year and when you were most needed…I see you still remembered what we learned at LSU, being a former Track and Field athlete of LSU myself we never give up or settle for less than our best!

I seldom come across such a good sport of a fan like you. I’m an LA fan, but I do appreciate the “good” fans of the other teams too, when they know how to accept defeat. I was ready to congratulate the Celtics during the second quarter of Game 7, but Ron Ron saved the day for us. Congratulations to LAL for being the champion and for the Celtics for being the best contender! Haribol!

  48. KG says:

    RON-RON
Ron was the man of the night!!!! plain and simple. Kobe, Gasol were realy having a difficult night and Ron save the team, offensively and defensively RON 20 pts and a crusial 3ptr in the game 5 reb. and most of all 5 stls.

    great job Ron!!!!!!

  49. C.B says:

Stop trippin guys. Ron did good and he came up big in the good moments. But kobe should get mvp because throughout all the 7 games, he’s been the best. But its not like they won just cause of him. SO just chill. LAKERS !! :)

  50. Ball Boy says:

Artest was hired by LA to be the defensive specialist that Rodman was for the Bulls or Big Ben was for the Pistons. I dont understand why you so called Lakers fans and NBA critics have riden artest through out the series. He was contracted to score. Thats what KB and Gasol are for. Artest was contracted to gaurd big names like Pierce. He was hired to make defensive stops which he did on a nightly basis. He was hired to make the big play when needed. Game 3 win and arguably the winning factor in game 7 (In no way was KB the winning factor in game 7… seriously, 25% shooting???).

Artest did his job PLUS MORE. Now the Lakers have won, everyone is praising Artest and renewing their belief KB is the greatest ever (vomit)

  51. Rods says:

Now im correct from my other blog here. Kobe will not shoot too much he tries to involve everyone in the floor, so ron, pau and all their players contribute on their own way to help notch the 16 nba championship because they are hungrier, hard worker, patient not giving up even the celtics are ahead most of the game. Oh what an effort, LA deserves to be the BEST NBA TEAM. Playing against BIG 4 is awesome beating them. And the 3 are getting older next year. Maybe the C need LB so much.

  52. Nino says:

CHAMPIONS…….keep talking about the lakers not being good enough to beat the celtics…..CELTICS FANS…….because right now we the L.A “CHAMPIONS” LAKERS are 2 busy celebrating……..dnt waste ur time saying that the best player ever KOBE BRYANT did not do it by his own….guess what?! nobody did…..not bill russel….not larry bird…..magic….not even jordan……he will be remembered as one of if not the greatest when he retires…..GO LAKERS…3-PEAT coming…..

  53. Ruian says:

Artest did a good job! disproving his critics!

FYI: Gasol is just watching playoffs in spain if he hasnt been traded to the Lakers.
same as kobe. he wouldnt win if gasol is not in LAL.
    go CHAMPS!!!

  54. Ragib says:

Could anyone have asked for a more entertaining game? Two Poster teams of the league, battled it out to a game 7, Lakers down by 13 at a point and coming back in the last few minutes to snatch it away. Thats pure EPICNESS.

IMO: Ron Artest was definitely MVP of this game, Pau Gasol a VERY close second, then Lamar Odom. Then Fisher. Then Bynum. Then Kobe =[ Sorry Kobe normally I reckon your awesome but you just couldn’t put on the show tonight when the team most needed it, and you would never hear about something like that from a Michael Jordan game. All that debate about MJ vs Kobe has died down because we see it now, Kobe’s good, but MJ was consistently amazing.

    • RDub says:

Kobe had the most points on the team and 15 rebounds and did a great defensive job just because he didnt have another 30+ point game doesnt mean he didnt do a great job he realized he didnt have it going offensievely and helped in other ways.

  55. Jojo Geolin says:

Congratulations to the Lakers Team, you guys deserved it. Kobe you’re the man. Go on for your 6th and bring the team for 17th. Ron, you really made d difference for this game. You’re d GAME-MVP… Coach PJ, you r unbelievable…go on for another three-peat…!

  56. L.A. All Day says:

I’m sorry but why do people insist on bring Lebron into this? This is about Ron Artest and the Lakers! Allan until you decided to bad mouth one of the best players in the league and in general a great man this was a celebration post for all Laker fans. I am not going to bash anyone but as dumb as this may sound, This blog should have nothing but comments about how great Ron played both on offense and defense, and on L.A.’s 16th title OVER the Boston Celtics! Ron had a great game. He lifted the Lakers up when they needed it and he told the crowd to get their ass’s up, and in the end Thanked them with a lovely three and a few blown kisses haha. Ron Artest is a great character and a wonderful player! Watch the video right at the end I mean does this guy not look like the happiest man on Earth? He gives a quick hug and than he has NO idea what to do with himself just runs all around Staple Center. Ron THANK you for your hard work and dedication. Ron for 2004 is long gone and we can all see that now. Seems like the last few years L.A. has brought great people in to complement Kobe. Gasol came in and took half of L.A. off of Kobe’s shoulders, and than they bring in Artest to take a third of that weight off of Gasol and Kobe. Enjoy the club Artest…I know in a week everyone’s mind set will be on that Three-peat. L.A. all day!!!!

  57. Niki says:

I’m really moved by Ron’s hard work! Lakers deserved it!

  58. Siser says:

I’m happy for Ron but MVP in game 7 = Pau. Ask Kobe… He’s agree with me. Congrats LA!!

  59. New Jersey Nets Owner says:

Hey! My team will be champion Next year! And our NBA record will be 82 – 0 and our playoff record will be 16-0! New Jersey Nets will Eat Lebron’s Ass alive!

  60. rich says:

Sekou, I just rated your article and gave it 99.9% why? because you forgot to say QUEENS BRIDGE. go Artest!

  61. Oliver John says:

Ron! you save the day for as and all the lakers fans. Lakers did it the hard way to win the sweet 16th NBA Championship in franchise history. I just can’t wait for another title next season. Way to go guys GO Los Angeles Lakers..

  62. random says:

If I was to Coach Boston on this game 7, I would’ve just let Kobe Bryant be Kobe. Let him score 40+ pts. that way, players with All Star Caliber like Odom, Artest, Bynum and a potential Superstar Gasol won’t get their rythm going. I would do a single Coverage on Kobe from 1st to 3rd quarter. And Trap him on the 4th quarter. (Esp. when i have a great defender player like “Tony Allen”.) The lakers have alot of very talented guys, and these players needs to touch the ball so they can flourish.. esp. Ron Artest, watch him play.. he likes to take alot of time dribbling the ball to kinda feel the game and he tends to do better on “Defense” if he touches more often. Yes I know he’s a defense specialist. but see if you let Kobe be kobe those other players will lose their confidence so as their defense ability. by not able to do anything or even touch the ball. Single coverage on kobe from 1st to 3rd quarter.. then when he feels like hes got it going trap him on the fourth. that way if he decide to pass the ball his teamates wont be able to produce anything.

I saw the game or should i say the replays.. During the first quarter there were two or even three GREEN jerseys running towards kobe everytime he touches the ball. Yes the boston were successful shutting down kobe at first but when he decided passing the ball to his teamates. that’s what made all the other LAKERS managed to get their rythm going. it boosted up their confidence on that particular game and as i’ve said before the lakers have too many Talented Players.
strategy like shutting down the Ace Player won’t work against this Laker team because of the depth of their team/talents. it did work on cleveland since lebron is the only one in there there’s really no solid second option like Gasol or even third like Odom/Artest that the lakers have right now.

I’m not crticizing Doc Rivers i have alot of respect for the Man, and i think he’s a great Coach i could feel his charisma he’s the type of person that could easily be respected by anyone.. see how he manage and tamed all those big names during 2008 trade. all those i said on top is just my opinion. also Perkins was a huge loss for the celtics on this game 7.. I mean Sheed is a champion and is a great player but he really doesnt fit into this boston celtic team because his main ability is a big guy who can stretch the defense..The boston already has alot of those from player like Ray allen/ Pierce even big baby.. plus “sheed” is not the same sheed from piston we used to know.. he’s a bit old too old and not as productive as he used to on defense.

Rondo is a decent PG but i felt nate shouldve given more playing time… I know rondo can rebound but when they had perkins they would be good with nate robinson since they like to run their offense with pierce, and pierce when he goes for the lay up.. he only have one option and that is ray ray.. nate shouldve given more mins to play.. not saying put him oin starting line up.. just saying more mins for him wouldve help their OFFENSE.. since damn rondo he needs to practice on his jumpshot.. lol a PG can never be a real treat if he can’t make jumpshots. but he’s good in all other cathegories.. (you gotta make jumpshot man!) same goes for Dwight Howard, rofl he’s trying to dominate like SHAAQ in the middle.. but i think SHAQ was too big that’s why he cant be stopped.. also… with that athletism..if only he can make mid range jump shot.. he’ll become GOD of NBA.. need to relax on those weight and just focus harder on jumpshot just like his Coach PAt Ewing used to.

    • Millan says:

Hey man, save your analysis for the next season. All we want now is just to savor the moment of joy of being champions. Your analyses seems logical, but they don’t have any meaning at the moment. Regards!

Coach Jackson please go for the three peat! It’s part of the history in the making. Haribol!

  63. Bert says:

It was a case of a classic comeback from the brink of a collapse. Kudos to the Lakers, indeed, a real champion.

  64. Yu says:

When Artest guarded Kobe so effectively to force a Game 7, I immediately felt if he’s on the Lakers team, he’d made a huge impact. I’m glad Lakers Organisation got him. He’s the missing link just like Jordon’s time of Dennis Rodman but he does more where he can shoots the ball and is 1 of the best defender 1 on 1. Tonight he’s the reason why the Lakers won. Go Lakers. Hoping to see Chris Bosh join them then it would be really building on a dynasty. All hail Lakers!

    • LA4Life says:

yep! love to see bosh at LA but the problem is salary cap.. uhmmm get rid of bynum and the mvp(morrison)! LOL

  65. hecper says:

ron made an excelent game..absolutly….but nobody is pryin’ god for bring pau gasol to lakers like me? this team has grown a lot last 3 years…ron has a lot of fault on that….but pau gasol has been a reference and a lighthouse all this amost 3 last seasons, thanks ron, thanks pau, we belive in lakers, beatl nba¡

  66. Pretty Good says:

Weeks ago, i was thinking of what would have happened if Lakers had kept Trevor Ariza. Well, Artest did a great job to carry them on the last game so i’m not complaining.

  67. RECHIZA says:

I really believe on artest the time i saw him signing contract w/ lakers..he look so bad boy but have a tough peersonality to pursue the eagerness to win…i love your play!it so amazing…good offense, stealing and scores…

  68. LA Support Germany says:

  69. RKay says:

This is what I waited for and rooted for. I just can’t believe the Lakers beat those green douchebags in the finals. Ron Ron and Derek Fisher hitting those big 3s was freaking epic. Kobe and the Lakers finally made IT!!!!!!! GO LAKERS!!!!!!!

  70. Aussie Lakers Fan says:

  72. cal0y123 says:

WAY THE GO LAKERS!! KEEP IT UP.. AS FOR THE CELTICS, YOU JUST GOT LUCKY THAT YOU MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FINALS WITH RONDO’S EXCEPTIONAL PLAY. BUT WHERE WAS RONDO IN THE FINALS?

  73. bball fan says:

After the game, I was wondering if anyone from the Celtics organization was going blame the loss on not having Perkins. of course, Doc Rivers cryptically said that “because of the Lakers size- blah blah blah, we basically lost. Why, isn’t anyone saying, that Bynum was only playing 50% the whole series, because of his knee and that the lakers played and overcame their disadvantage. He and Pierce ,talked about the free throw discrepancies in the 4th. Anyone who saw the game, saw that the lakers rotated off pick and roll, making the celtics, take off balanced shots. The Celtics were stifled in the paint. They ran out of gas. They spent so much energy, to their credit, playing defense, they were flat down the stretch. The Lakers didn’t give up and got the ball down low. What happens when your tired and can’t defend as well as you did in the 3 previous quarters? You end up fouling… I congratulate the Lakers and the Celtics for an amazing series and am looking forward to next year. Going in to the playoffs, I thought that LeBron would be the new king, but wow, what heart from both teams.(don’t blow it Celtics by whining and Kobe, you”re better then the Shaq comment, you’re legacy speaks for itself)…….. impartial bball fan

  74. The Illest says:

Congrats to Los Angeles Lakers (even if there was a travel on Pau Gasol at around 74-70, so normally no basket). Congrats to Phil Jackson

But no, not a 3-peat. 3 times in a row, the Lakers in NBA Finals..too much!!!

Go, New Jersey Nets!!!!!! Haha! Within 3 years, a title…then NJN champions for the next decade!!!! Nobody believes that, but mark my words.

  78. john says:

that was a very nice game.

  79. onthebeach says:

Artest good game tonight has been very focused, but … back to business as usual, Gasol has done nothing? pair with my MVP Bryant, I believe that we must begin to give Pau the credit they deserve, without this ring would not be possible strength of the team shooting in the 4th quarter, where they are now all those detractors who criticize both , go lakers! to the three ring!

  80. fanphil says:

    • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

WOW YOU ARE FUNNY, I ACCEPT THAT YOUR TEAM WIN THIS YEAR BUT COMPARE ME WITH KOBE, YOU ARE DISRESPECTING THE BEST PLAYER EVER, THE BEST TEAM EVER IS CHICAGO BULLS AND YOUR LAKERS OF THIS YEAR AND LAST YEAR ARE NOT EVEN GOOD ENOPUGH TO BEAT THE LAKERS OF MAGIC.
KOBE IS NOT MJ (GAME 7 WITH MY DEFENSE KOBE WOULD HAVE 5 POINTS AND 2 REBOUNDS AND MYSELF POUNDING HIM ALL NIGHT LONG, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE 50 OR 60 POINTS, 20 REBOUNDS AND 10 ASSIST EASILY)
PIPPEN THE BEST DEFENDER OF THE GAME IN HIS POSITION , EXCELLENT REBOUNDER AND TEAMMATE IS WAY BETTER THAN RON RON.
RODMAN CAN GET YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND, THE BEST REBOUNDER AND DEFENDER FOR DECADES AT HIS POSITION.
      DON`T SAY STUPID THINGS.
THE LEAGUE, ESPN AND PEOPLE WHO REALLY KNOWS PUT MY CHICAGO BULLS THE BEST TEAM EVER AND OF COURSE MJ THE BEST PLAYER EVER WITH NO ONE NEAR ME.

  91. Reynaldo Ubando says:

Congratulations!!! LA Lakers for wonderful and great game in game 7 for winning the 2010 NBA finals.
Great Job for all LA Lakers team.

  92. shobemio says:

Great job ron your MVP for the night..L.A is the best team and thanks to Jackson for the great coaching..1 way to go guyz grab the 17th title..and also Kobe you done a great job..Go L.A

  93. K'Reem says:

Right Ron Artest was the main reason they won the NBA finals not only for tonight but for the entire series because if they didn’t have him Paul Pierce would have went off on them like the last time sorry Trevor Ariza you play good defense but not strong enough to guard Pierce

  94. Jason M says:

Ron’s Redemption! I’ve never been so stressed out watching a basketball game. That was a long war and you could feel the emotion seeping out of the TV. LA will sleep well tonight. GO LAKERS! Thank you for another amazing season!

  95. Capi says:

    G-A-S-O-L
    Hard job to the Spanish.
Before Gasol LA didn´t have options to be the Champions.

    • Dvoice says:

Gasol is definitely a great player, but the “chemistry” between him Kobe made this a great team. Championship cannot be won by one man show.

    • LAKERS says:

Whats the point. We have him now, along with a 16th championship!!! Possibly 17 18 19 20 and 21!!! So what the heck is the point.

  96. melly says:

Along with Ben Cousins, caaaarnnnnn Richmond

  97. melly says:

Tim Duncan was the mvp of the series!!!

  98. elev8 says:

RonRon is really enjoying this moment, this championship ring!!! SO go for the club Ron, release your preasure….

  99. COmbi says:

    - yeah ron is the MVP for game 7, but pau gasol should be the finals MVP in my opinion ..

  100. champ... says:

Paul pierce said, he was once dreaming of winning a championship in LA., but opposite the LAKERS bench..You know thats contrast..Perhaps he can win his second championship ring in purple and gold…after all his a hometown boy, thats possible and a dream thats good to be true…anyway congratulations CELTICS but LAKERS worth it…MVP! MVP! MVP!

  101. 19vonskie19 says:

Ronron, you are unbelievable!! you did what you have to do… man, MVP for a night. Now, I’m about to go spend the next few hours rubbing it in every single persons face that told me the Lakers would lose to the Celtics in the finals.

  102. reasons? says:

jordan didnt win a ring with such caliber opponents like this celtic team, who did he beat? payton? johnson with hiv?
kobe and the lakers did it, against a big3, 4, 5, or maybe 6 team? kobes the best there is! double teamed, triple teamed, zoned, shoved, pushed, ended up with 23 points, 15 rebounds on a game 7 finals against a very strong celtic team is one for the history! take that to the bank!

    • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

LET ME TELL YOU ONE THING MY FRIEND I DIDN´T HAVE THE DOMINANT BEAST OF SHAQ, THE LENGTH AND VERSATILITY OF GASOL AND BYNUM, I WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AGAISNT YOUR LAKERS WITH THE BEST PLAYER EVER IN LA IM TALKING ABOUT MAGIC, I PLAYED AGAINST THE BAD BOYS DETROIT PISTONS (THE MOST COMPLETE TEAM IN NBA), THE KNICKS A VERY HARD TEAM TO BEAT AND I CAN GIVE YOU THE LIST IT GOES ON AND ON.
I THINK YOU ARE A YOUNG FAN BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH DO A REASEARCH FIRST. KOBE HAS 2 RINGS AS A MAIN MAN, HE DOESN´T JUMP LIKE ME, HE DOESN´T BLOCK BIG FELLAS AND SO ON.

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME, IVE WOULD WON 8 RINGS NOT 6 DONT FORGET I WENT TO PLAY BASEBALL.

    • think says:

      @reasons?

if the 96 bulls were to play todays celtics, what would happen?

      mj vs. allen = mj
harper vs. rondo = harper, harper is long and quick enough to prevent rondo to have an amazing game
pippen vs. pierce = pippen is better than ron both defensively and OFFENSIVELY
rodman vs. garnett = kg wont score at this age against rodman in his heydays
longley vs. perkins = longley shoots jumpers… taking perk out of his defensive comfort zone… luc doesnt have to defend perk

do you think the celtics would even go the distance of forcing game 7 with that bulls? i dont think so.

i dont think these lakers are even competent enough to battle againts the pacers (w/c took the bulls to 7 games)… and more so they could take out that seattle team (payton, kemp, shrempf, hawkins, perkins + 7 deep bench) in a finals game

just think bro… if kobe was playing during the defense-oriented time of the 90’s, he would always do what he did in game 7… selfish-poor-shooting-performance-that-he’s-just-happy-he-was-bailed-out-by-teammates… the celtics arent half the physical tough teams jordan’s opponents were back then… and kobe just lay eggs against this team… tsktsk

      just think bro… just think…

you guys just won… please don’t spoil it by being st*pid…

  103. jackpoy says:

there’s numerous things about the nba finals, either it was rigged by the mafia and the government to go seven games, hum?
(don’t forget the most worst officiating i’ve even seen, and i watch kids play basketball, so that’s bad.
Or phil jackson is losing his masters degree in coaching. Ron artest was not an offensive factor this whole series. People tend to forget, because of his defense. but he wasn’t. Kobe did not play like kobe tonight, very selfish, until the end.
Boston needs to get rid of paul pierce or put him thru severe man up practices, lol
Rondo deserves finals mvp? i think so. he dont have a jump shot for god sakes.
and i hope lakers could find some time of thug juice for pau gasol and lamarr odem, should sell them for lebron?

but what i love about ron artest is that he knows where he comes from. Queens, ny. im from queens also. and he shouted out the hood at the interview with the lady. the significance in that is he’s not scared of who he is, no more what color, race, height, size, or intellect. i respect him for that. an kobe only got ron, because te leaf didn’t fall far from the tree, and ron artest was the real kobe stopper, not garbage rubin patterson!

  104. LAKERFAN says:

YAY!! I’m so happy for him! He’s so different playing for LA from when he played with Houston. I love him, he seems like such a cool, goofy guy. He had a great game, congrats to him. So happy to have him on the team! LOVE YOU RON RON!

  105. jorge says:

Congrat’s also to Boston Celtics. You did a very tough job for the LA Lakers. You have heart of the Champion but maybe this is not yet your time. Keep doing it and make NBA basketball more exciting for us.

    • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

I LOVE YOUR COMMENTS, KUDOS FOR YOU, YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT FAN WITH RESPECT. LA AND CELTICS FANS RESPECT IS EVERYTHING.

      • true blooded LAkerfun! says:

yeah MJ YOUR FATHER! u never respected KOBE!

      • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

I respect kobe but he is so far out of my league rememeber this: 6 AS A LEADER KOBE GOT 2 AS A LEADER NOT 5, FIRST 3 WAS SHAQ, WATCH THE VIDEOS AND STATS DON`T LIE. LA fans you always put kobe in a pedestal, get real, what happened with you in 08 excuses excuses and don`t forget you almost lose game 7, poor kobe desicions and excellent job of artest, fisher and gasol. THE GREATEST OF THE GAME NEVER EVER GOT POOR DESICIONS ASK MAGIC. CONGRATS RIGHT NOW.

TO NBA REFS AND THE LEAGUE PLEASE LET THEM PLAY STOP MAKING CALLS, TOO MUCH POINTS ON THE LINE. I WANT TO SEE A REAL SHOW FULL OF BASKETS.

  106. Jake says:

You guys will never seize to impress me by underrating Mr Pau Gasol. Games 6 and 7 have been his. Almost a triple double in game 6 and 19 points, 18 rebounds (9 Offensive) 4 assists in game 7.

Before de “Gasol era” that LA locker room was a mess, since Gasol? 2 rings + 1 final.

    enough said? Seems not. Whatever.

    • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU WITHOUT GASOL THEY ARE NOTHING, KOBE IS NOT ME, HE IS GOOD BUT NOT THE BEST, DO YOU REMEMBER THE LAKERS WITHOUT GASOL AND KOBE AT HIS BEST? THEY LOST AGAINST THE SUNS. LOL

  107. jorge says:

ron congrats, you liberated LA from desperated loss in Game 7. You are the LA’s missing bullet Celtics mistakenly forgot.

  108. LA LIFER says:

Never talk too much during the playoffs. Never say things that will motivate your opponents. Celtics said they “DESERVED” this championship. Bad move. Now Artest have revived his career and his life with the help of his therapist and his performance tonight. Eventhough Kobe struggled (25 pts and 15 rebounds?), he came through. So did Pau, Sasha, Odom and the rest of the team.

    If they win next year:

    Kobe ties Michael Jordan
Kobe gets 2 more rings than Shaq
Lakers tie Celtics for most NBA championships

And People will keep trying to compare Lebron Shames, I meant James to Kobe eventhough he has not lead any team to the NBA. Would you rather be 2 time “FINALS” (MVP) champion or 2 time regular season mvp? I think I’ll take the FINALS anyday.

Congrats Lakers. Let’s do it again next year.

    • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

LEBRON IS YOUNG, TALENTED, HE NEEDS A TEAM SURROUND HIM LIKE KOBE (GASOL,BYNUM,ARTEST,FISHER,ODOM), DON´T HATE HIM BEACAUSE HE IS BETTER THATS A FACT.

      • Lakers Champions says:

Congrats to the Lakers on winning another title, back to back. The Boston Celtics gave them a very hard time but as Champions you have to regroup and finish what you have worked for the whole year. The Lakers were critisized the all along and were always compared to the Caviliers but who are the CHAMPS of 2010. Like history shows it no ONE man can win a championship. Jordan did not do it, Magic did not, Bird did not, Duncan did not and the list goes on. It takes a TEAM to win a CHAMPIONSHIP.

I am not sure why everyone compares Kobe Bryant to Micheal Jordan. They are both difrrent players and both are going to be remember as one the BEST in their time. Jordan has 6 rings and Kobe 5 who cares. Kobe is not trying to be like Mike nord did Jordan tried to be like anyone else. They both work very hard on the court and off the court to make a name for themself in this league. They are dedicated players who work hard during the off seasons to better them self and it shows when the seasons starts.

As for the remarks with Kobe and Lebron. I like Lebron and to me he is consider as one of the best versatile players we have right now. There is to much hype on him though. Lebron did have a good team and great players who compliements his team but it all comes down to determination. If we all looked at LBJ last game he GAVE up and was no longer competing. If you as a leader GAVE up so will your team. Kobe in this case was not having the best shoting night but in did it on deffence and rebound. Even knowing his team was down in the last game of the seaon he did not give up. He encourage his teamates and they stepped up. From Derick Fisher superb 3 point to Ron Artest fantastic game and late 3 to Paul Gasol all around game. Every player stepped up for the LAKERS and this is how they won.

Lebron will win one day but right now the LAKERS are the team to beat and I am sure during this off season with so many free agents they will looke to better their team to go for three in a row.

  113. Matt says:

Man Ron Artest came up huge! His And 1 with 7.30 to go in the 4th and his 3 pointer with 1.00 to go were enormous plays. MVP of the game for sure! If I was Kobe I’d be showing Ron a lot of love right now.

  114. vigort says:

I thought paul pierce boasted that he won’t be goin’ back to LA, well, that’s what happens when you brag against the Lakers.

Amazing series…this made my day….Ron you are the man….

  118. kensshin0789 says:

Everyone see Artest as the mvp and you guys are right he was the mvp of this night. But remember in game 5 of the suns the reason why the suns were tied by the lakers was how bad ron played. You see his ironic act in the last moment .But the reason that the lakers were in a game 7 was because of Ron Artest played so bad in game 1-5.I must admit the lakers would have stolen two games in boston if they have Ariza. But i’m cool anyway I love Ron Artest honesty. He is a true great player.Maybe all boston and lakers player should have gone to physiatrist before playing game 7.

  120. RNZ says:

HAIL TO THE CHAMPS! LOS ANGELES LAKERS!
    CONGRATULATIONS TO RON-RON ARTEST!

  121. hobyo says:

Kobe just solidified his status as a G.O.A.T and the best bballer on this planet and Ron Ron = MVP!! He should be given a trophy of some sort :) +40 through this series and thanking his shrink?! Ron Ron’s the man.

  122. zzanzabar says:

Finally Ron, redemption. Congrats and thank you for helping the Lakers win a classic game. Many think that you are ‘erratic’ or ‘eccentric’ or even ‘egotistical’ but actually you are just plain Erlekh (honest). You say what you really feel and think no matter what others think of it. Who else would have the nerve to thank their psychiatrist (let alone admit that they even see one) for helping them to settle down and enjoy the moment? The debate might still be on as to whether a younger (24) Trevor Ariza might have been a better fit, but you Ron-Ron saved the day (again) and no one can take that away. Can anyone smell a ‘3-peat’?

  123. fan says:

hello, many people says that artest was very good tonight, it is because he has only a one guard and the hard guards are not focus to him thats why he did a lot of point, while kobe has a 2 or 3 guards thats why it is very hard for him to make points, but still he can do some shots and points for the team because he is a smart player, in short if artest is in the situation of kobe i thinks he cant play well anymore…… i think kobe deserve to be an mvp

  124. Arwind Santos says:

yeah, Ron is the main reason why the LAKERS keep the game close and he made an terrific job on guarding Paul Pierce even if Paul Pierce do not admit it Ron is the Reason why he can’t score effectively..for me Ron is the Most Valuable Player of the series because he is the one who does the important stop’s while Kobe scores when the LAKERS lose.if they don’t have Artest then maybe it will be easy for Pierce to score.and kobe was struggling to stop Rondo..

  125. Giovanni says:

GO TO THE CLUB AND TEAR THAT PLACE DOWN TILL THERE IS NOTHING LEFT!!!!

  126. peter says:

when people are on the top they tend to forget to look down and keep strolling dangerously but those who fell down know their pain and trouble surround them. those who prevail to breakthrough the downside will reign victorious and it’s been proven many times by our ancestor: Albert Einstein, Many Pacqiaou, and other successful people… the key is to remain focus/calm and consistent at all times. and Lakers once again prove it that failure does not mean they lose the game but their focus led to the championship dynasty. so GO ON LAKERS & THE TEAM

  127. MONGOL says:

Go bad boys. Only one bad thing is that Webber and Iverson do not have rings. But still they are best players for us.

  128. TC. says:

    Ron-Ron!! CONGRATS!!!!!! LAKERS!!!!!
My favorite player on the LAKERS tonight!!
I love him and his rambles!! And he’s cute, too! lol.

  129. MONGOL says:

I am happy for Artest. He is true player and man with open heart. Congratulations for all of Laker community. Congratulations Bynum, thank you for playing through your injury.

Artest you are real bad boy. Rasheed was wonderful. He showed how should play champion player.

  130. Getz says:

Wow!! Artest is simply amazing!! MVP for a night and the Lakers are champs again. Kobe had a bad game as influenced by the Celtic’s defensive efforts. But the forgot about Artest and he got a lot of good looks. And he lived up to his name as a great defensive player.

Kobe is the MVP of the series. But Artest is the MVP of the night and certainly deserves credit, too.

  131. Allan says:

LeBrick… where are you!? oh you are fishing…. then why everybody’s talking about you? because you are a bubble.

    • hobyo says:

King James will come of age soon… a unfortunate victim of too much hype and a lousy coach playing him 1 on 5

he aint fishing… he’s catching them with his bare hands… ;)

      • Dvoice says:

I read an article last month that Lebron said Celtics will defeat the Lakers. Lebron, Kobe is not you and he always find ways to win, and Lakers have many great players. Great job Artest and thanks for the energy in game 7!!!!

      • MJ YOUR FATHER says:

MVP IS RON RON, LEBRON IS WAY BETTER THAN KOBE, LBJ JUST NEED A REAL TEAM LIKE KOBE, KOBE WITHOUT GASOL, FISHER, ARTEST, BYNUM IS NOTHING. LAKERS ALMOST LOSE THANKS TO KOBE 30 SOMETHING PERCENT EFFECTIVENESS OR I´D RATHER SAY INEFFECTIVE.
CONGRATULATIONS RON YOU DESERVE IT, ENJOY IT.
NEXT YEAR THE LAKERS WILL GO TO ANOTHER FINALS BECAUSE OF A POWERLESS WESTERN CONFERENCE AND THE CELTICS THIS WAS THE LAST DANCE, I DONT HINK THEY WILL SURVIVE NEXT YEAR AGAINST THE BEST CONFERENCE IN NBA.

LBJ YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF CLEVELAND, WADE YOU HAVE TO JOIN FORCES WITH LBJ AND YOU WILL BE A CHAMPION AGAIN AND FOR YEARS TO COME.

      • blackmamba024 says:

Haha! LeBron? Called himself King James. He sure is a King but what is a King without winning any battle? 2 MVP awards. We know that. How ’bout a knuckle full of championship rings. boohoo for LeBron. Go Kobe Bryant and the rest of the LA Lakers.

      • think says:

have you been taught any grammar.I suggest you take lessons , because you said alot but i couldnt understand what your trying to say.

      • Jake says:

holy crap are you speaking engrish or what? jesus.

      • LA-champs2010 says:

@THINK: please don’t criticize other people’s grammar when yours isn’t even that great. first off its “a lot” not “alot”. Secondly its “you’re”, NOT “your”. Maybe our friend is a non-english speaking fan and is trying his/her best to communicate their thoughts. so chill out.

Ron Artest is a great player and has great skills. I’ve watched him in his Rucker’s Park days and have been a fan ever since. He WAS the MVP of the Finals game 7. His performance was excellent and he made some key shots to keep the Lakers in comfortable position down the stretch. He also made shots that altered the momentum of the Celtics, preventing them from catching up and making a move on the lakers. The Celtics made some huge shots in the last 2 minutes or so and it was Ron and Derek that made big 3s to equalize their efforts. Kobe and Vujacic also made huge free throws to keep the lead. Even though Kobe didn’t score as well or as much as he usually did but he had 15 rebounds. the Lakers won as a team and everyone contributed. i would make Kobe and Ron Co-MVPs for game 7 but as a series, its Kobe Bryant that stands alone as MVP. great game Ron!!!!!

    • Loretta says:

Way to go Lakers…and Ron in my eyes redemption is here…and yes I agree that Artest was definately the key lst night. Now for all those nay-sayers in the media, how do you like them Lakers now??? In yesterday’s poll it was asked who the hero of Game 7 would be…choices Kobe; Pierce; Rondo, or Ray Allen…hmmmm only one Laker choice? Surprise Surprise,,, none of the above…well done Ron.
