HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – You won’t have to wait until Friday afternoon to find out whether or not Kendrick Perkins will suit up for the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Stu Jackson, the NBA’s vice president of discipline (the dude who doles out the penalties and fines, for those of you not impressed with fancy titles) is taking a second look at all of the technical fouls and licks passed in Game 5 Wednesday night and trying to make sense of it all.
“All five of the technical fouls from last night will be reviewed and we expect a decision today,” NBA spokesman Tim Frank said by phone Thursday morning.
I don’t know about the other three but the two that have to be in serious question belong to Perkins. I’ve watched them over and over and I still can’t comprehend how a guy is assessed a technical for being a giant brat. Much like Celtics coach Doc Rivers, I didn’t see where either technical was warranted.
In a physical game where bodies, elbows and trash talk are tossed around liberally, Perkins was not one of the more obvious transgressors (bet you Big Baby Davis would agree with me if he weren’t still seeing stars from that face-crashing, inadvertent bow he took from Dwight Howard).
The Celtics can’t afford to lose Perkins, whose seventh technical of the postseason carries with it an automatic suspension for the next game. With Davis (concussion) and Rasheed Wallace (back) still wobbly heading into Game 6, the Celtics need Perkins more than ever.
The guess here at the hideout is that we see Perkins in uniform for Game 6 at TD Garden.
Whatever the outcome, someone’s fans will cry (technical) foul.

The NBA under David Stern has moved closer and closer to a dictatorship ship he took over. Originally successful is selling NBA T shirts he has no clue now. Players with guns rule the locker rooms. Players with drug dealings and habits roam the court. Refs want to control the outcome to their own benefit. Stem should step down.

If it smells fishy, maybe it’s because it is? Games like this embarrass officials, tarnish the reputation of the league, endangers players, and make me feel like a sucker for participating.
Dwight can’t help it if he’s a Tower of Power! All the injuries to Celtic players were totally inadvertent, and if the C’s can’t handle the heat then maybe they better get out of Dwight’s kitchen!

It seems to me that someone should ultimately look at why Dwight Howard should be allowed to get away with how he plays the game. Players have been complaining for a long time about how he uses his elbows as a weapon. See Glen Davis.
Davis is a soft big man anyway maybe he should try jumping in the air for a change instead of stayin on the floor maybe then he wouldnt have got hit
A good center uses his elbows as weapons. That how u make space in the post for your play. If Davis complaines about taking a elbow he should check out Shaq’s plays against other big men or plays of european centers.
I personally think we should suspend the ref who called the tech on Perkins, let him have a game to get his mind right. We know he made extra money last night so he won’t be affected money wise.

These refs are getting out of hand. they need to let them play basketball and stop be so darn sensitive. The foul Perk was upset about shouldn’t have been call a foul in the first place.
Let them play, call the rough stuff and let the ticky tacky stuff go. There very well paid professional ball players, i think they can handle it.
But will the league give one to Howard for his elbow…..cause it seems he gets away with a lot of those and that plus when he literally tossed Rondo to the floor should have been calls but guess what they were not.

Perkins:
Both Techs were warranted and bot should stand. At some point the Officials are charged with maintaining control of the game. Perkins stomping around and grousing warrants the techs.
Certainly part of the game is emotion; but I submit the emotion should be in the play, not in response to calls by the Refs.
As for the first Tech; he deserved that one as well. The elbow to the stomach of Gortat appeared to be inadvertant but who knows. A lot goes on in a game.
The Celtics pride themselves on being the “New Bad Boys”; they should stop crying and accept what comes as a result of their actions.
How could those Techs be warranted? He was helping his team mate up and his sweaty hand slipped and his elbow accidently hit Gortat. Period. The second one was a bad foul call. He walked AWAY from the ref. With the emphatic jestures and disgust of it all. Celtics were robbed. Dwight Howard knocked a players tooth out, and elbowed him unconciuos and nothing? I hope the NBA does the right thing, and I am sure they will. I mean what does the Stern have to gain in a repeat of the lowest watched finals ever.
you say that like he did it on purpose Davis was under him and he came down and hit him accident not his fault Davis desided to get that close to him while he was in the air besides that wouldnt have happened if Nate Robison wouldnt have fouled Howard (but they gave him a block) in the first place
There is no possible way anyone (Orlando fan or otherwise) could honestly say that Howard is “inadvertently” hitting all the other teams with his elbows. Yes, of course, on occasion he doesn’t mean to do it, and I think everyone knows that is part of the game, but come on! You cannot “inadvertenetly” give a person such a bad concussion that they cannot stand up! Its outrageous. If you watch him in every replay of every play he takes someone down. This is not skill, it is maliciousness. It is really unfortunate too because he is such a talented player but his skills are overshadowed (or at least dimmed) by his malevolence. He is going to seriously injure someone. And then to have the audacity to halfheartedly say “I hope he’s ok”. If you are going to play dirty and take someone out, then at least give him enough respect to just keep your mouth shut. It is very clear that there is an emmense amount of “anti-Celtics” feelings out there. I am not saying that the refs don’t make bogus calls in favor of the Celts (or any other team for that matter) because they do, and that is part of the game as well, but when it comes down to it you can’t be making those calls at the risk of someone’s personal safety. That game was atrocious. Yes, the Celtics probably would have lost even without losing Perk, Davis and Daniels, but give Orlando a chance to show that they really deserve the win and don’t take away from thier success by handing them a game they had a very likely chance of winning.
Remember Courtney Lee’s facemask?.. I’m pretty sure Dwight didn’t mean to do that to his own player?
Howard is a big dude, thats how he played. Then Bostons tactics are to swarm him, the closer you are the more likely you will get hit because he is tall. What do you expect him to do when he gets the ball hug it. Touch a ball from above and see where your elbow is. If you don’t play basket ball you don’t know what your talking about.
Why not look at how they his Howard too and see , he is just big and strong that you won’t notice it.
Yea Howard didnt mean to do that to Lee and remember Davis got hit right in the face while Dwight Howard was coming down after jumping there was nowhere for Dwight Howard to go but down of cousre Davis got hit why was he under Howard anyway it was an accident and it is very possible to get a concusion even when the hit is an accident

Oh so you are going to blame Davis for that! And what about all the other players he has banged up over his carrer? It was so easy for everyone to complain about Manute Bol but oh no not Superman Dwight Howard. He’s special. I see no difference between the two. Flying elbows everywhere!
Speaking of Howard lets not forget the no-call when he followed up a Lewis foul on Pierce by shoving Pierce to the ground while bending his arm back. You’s think based on last years playoffs the Ref’s would look at how Howard is very very dirty as the second man on the foul and on his rebounds. Somehow, other big guys in the league seem to be able to control their elbows!
He was already in the air he was coming down and hit Pierce besides the only thing Peirce wants to do is get hit that is his specialty right drawing fouls no one cares if he cries your a basketball player suck it up and play some defence
If Vince Carter’s technical foul was not reversed, I do not see why the 2nd tech on Perkins should be. He did basically the same exact thing. Unfortunately, what we have is sports reporters trying to be judge and jury for the game and that is not their job. His behavior was not warranted and I trust the ruling will be consistent.
I wish sports reporters would judge the outrageous calls a bit more…this league has gone to crap.
I just hope the League does not cave in and allow Perkins to play game 6.
While suspending Perkins does disadvantage the Celtics; worse case is he is not available for game 6.
As it stands now, game 6 will not lose the series for the Celtics.
If Perkins is allowed to play; then why have rules?
I like the idea of a review, but at the same time, don’t change the foul(s) just because it’s the Celtics.
The first foul was an elbow to the stomach of Gortat; either it was or it wasn’t.
The second was a clear demonstration of Perkins displeasure with the call. Routine behavior for Perkins
Players have been getting T’d up for years for the very same thing; why should it be different now?
Remember Rasheed Wallace used to be the worse.
Basketball is a physical game, but it is also a mental game. At this level, with all that is at stake, the mental is just as important.
You say Perkins was given 2 Technicals, I say he earned them. Perkins should sit out of game 6!!!

It’s weird how half the people are complaining that the game was too physical and the other half of people are complaining that the refs were too ticky tacky.
You Celtics fans cant tell the game was fixed and if orlando wins it will be because of the reff decisions. Both teams are playing their best, I agree the first technical for gorthat and perkins was unnecesary, perkins hand slip when helping his teammate get up. The elbow from howard to davis was accidental and it happend only because of the foul that nate did (but they gave him a block instead of a foul) . So; Be objective. The refs make mistakes but they are not taking sides, its a win or go home situation so they want to control a very physical game, and you cant deny that both perkins and rasheed are a big trash talkers.

How can a guy take an elbow to the head and be almost knocked out and no foul call but Perkins gets his second “T” on a touch foul and gets ejected? I wonder if the ref realized he gave Perkins a “T” already and if he did would he make that same call on that play that caused him to get ejected. I have seen much better officated games…..
I don’t think anyone is denying that Perkins and Wallace talk trash all the time. So does Davis. The issue is that this was one of the rare occurances that Perkins did the right thing and WALKED AWAY and he is being punished for it. If they had waited a few minutes, I’m sure Perkins would have complained about another call in the second have much more vehemently and actually warranted his second T, but what he did was the complete correct reaction in the moment. That is the issue that people are complaining about. And notice, no one has said that Perkins never complains because that would be rediculous as there is almost never a foul called on him that he doesn’t do his trademark “ME!?!?!” face.
Dwight Howards elbows are dangerous. I can’t say for sure that he is doing it on purpose, but it sure looks like it. the only way to make him control his elbows is to start calling him for fouls or flagrant fouls when he uses them to injure a player. I have played basketball and I know that sometimes you hurt someone by accident, but not on every possession. and if you do hurt someone by accident, you get called for the foul…but not howard. It’s dirty and it’s ruining the series. A real athlete wants to beat the best team…not injure them so they don’t have to play the best team. I hope the c’s take game 6 because Howard should not be celebrated for his dirty play of basketball.

That game last night was a disgrace and the bias was even attempted to be disguised. It was very transparent. From the 1st qrt play where Howard ran over Piece and did not get an Offensive Foul call, to the elbows sending people to the hospital. When Davis went down, my mind immediately the worse. Tell me what good is it for the the league to change a Game 4 elbow to Garnett’s head to a Flagrant 1, which during the game (which went into OT) would have been two shots and the ball! I’m a Laker fan. I dislike all things Celtics. But, as a fan of basketball as a whole, I have to say this is totally suspect…
All throughout the playoffs, NBA announcers and pundits have been saying things like “that’s a playoff foul” (i.e. Dwight Howard’s potential flagrant 2 foul in Game 2)… and “this is the playoffs”… blah, blah, blah. (like we don’t know – they tell us every stinking TV timeout!) Yep, anywhere from Magic Johnson, John Barry, Michael Wilbon, Reggie Miller (sorry, Reg…), Kenny the Jet, Chris Webber, Charles Barkley, Doug Collins, Marv Albert, Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy (wonder how he feels about that technical foul he got with the Rockets when Tim Donaghy was officiating), Mark Jackson… the list goes on…
So my question is this: If “playoff fouls” are known to be strong hard fouls, why is Perkins being called for a tic-tac foul like the one that got him thrown out of the game?

The commissioner himself has recently said, the league is a “product”. And just like a widget, that product can be changed and/or altered at any time to suit the primary need – profit. (Remember, all the commercials and advertisements we see in these playoffs cost something. More games – more revenue)
So let’s see if this thing gets wrapped up in 6… how many times do they have to tell us the improbability of a team coming back from a 3-0 deficit?

I Think that Boston Fans should stop complaining because there wouldnt have even been a game five if they had finished Magic off at home like they were suppose too. Boston has players who flop and complain and cry and as far as im concerned if they didnt wanna be hit they shouldve pick up golf or something its apart of the game suck it up and keep playin Magic had to they were down 0-3. vince carter and jameer nelson are huge floppers…there wouldn’t have been a game 5 had they not called big baby for the foul on nelson late in game four….where he was blocked by davis and jackson and van gundy both said where is the foul…but jameer jumped into him…so they called it…i turned off the tv last night when carter jumped into sheed and they called sheed for a foul…sick of this league where defenders are forced to get out of the way to avoid being called for a foul.

At the end of the day why has it been rescinded? For the entirety of this series all the Celtics have tried to do is foul the hell out of Dwight,argue every call and generally try to rough up the magic.
Changing the referees decision after the game makes a mockery of the rules. If this was Soccer the Referees decision is final otherwise whats the point of having them?
Yeah,some decisions may be wrong but if every decision in every game is looked at before long referees will be too scared to make any close calls at all!
Being a Magic fan maybe im biased,but I dont care! I have not enjoyed these playoffs a great deal. The Nuggets and the Mavs were rough housed out of the playoffs and it looks like more and more teams are lookin to go the “bad boys” route.
I would love it if a great attacking team like the Suns reached the playoff final and as for Paul Pierce asking for a broom,he needs to look harder cause right now D.Howards lookin like the bin man gettin ready to take out the garbage, and the broomstick is in his hands now!
I have no problem with Dwight or KG’s elbows. Don’t want to get hit then get outta the way. If you are under his elbows.. well sorry. He can’t wait for you to move before he brings his arms down. A player is entitled to that person space.
My problem is with referees introducing their emotions into the game. It’s not about you referee! The shame is we’re talking about them today instead of the great play of Orlando.

I agree…crawford has an ongoing hate with Perkins…you can youtube videos of him calling perk for a T where he did nothing at all…The Ts that were called on him last night was a joke..both of them…complete joke…the one called against vince carter was a joke….this league is quickly becoming garbage…KB yells and crys after every call….LJ does the same thing….stomp around and have a cry look on their face…but they are THE LEAGUE. Perkins does it and well it aint cool…he was kicked from the game last night without doing anything at all really…and the Cs can’t get the half of game back they lost him for. If the NBA has any respect for their fans outside of Orlando, players not named Dwight Howard and wants to be credible for their decisions, its time to stop hiding referees under suspensions and fines. They did a horrible job, players were injured and reputations were tarnished. I dont understand why the league continue to condone bad decisions made by ignorant refs. Granted,Joey crawford and Ed Rush are considered the premier refs in the world but the fact of the matter is that they did not get the job done. The NBA and David Stern needs to realize that the reason why players and coaches speak out is because none of the representatives in the NBA attempts to discipline these refs. Even then, refs are able to simply push aside comments, suggestions and maybe advice because the NBA rather than finding out the source of the problem, chooses to punish those that peak against it. I dont care if you are a Boston fan or an Orlando fan, game 5 was atrocious and the NBA should be ashamed. The call on Perkins was already borderlining the integrity of the sport, then you add a technical for displaying emotion in a plyoff game? I understand the need for refs to control escalating situations on the court to ensure the safety of the players, but when you see Dwight Howard dropping elbows (intentionally or not) and multiple players being the victim of his “accidental extension”, its time you say something and actually assert some sort of authority, players are getting hurt for god sakes. The league should not be stupid enough to protect the refs before they do the players. If you are a basketball fan, you should be able to see and question these events. I dont care how biased you are, Orlando is the team thats swinging elbows and complaining about all the calls. Dwight Howard really is dissapointing in this respect as every time a call goes against him, his arms rise up and argues against the call. But the reality is, the league cannot allow players to dictate the refs on the court. So i guess what im saying is that there needs to actions or policies implemented internally between the elague and the referee association.
I believe the bigger flopper in this series is paul pierce.I”m not celtics fans .but I’m a Kevin Garnet fan.I love the way KG play ,he play with a strong passion,calm and with a lot heart.when paul pierce got hitted by howard flagant foul even if i’m KG and ray allen too fan I was happy.I have watched the 82 game of the boston celtics i never lose faith in them.You don’t how many time pierce flopped in those games drawing foul.He and lebron draw foul like crazy,superstar treatment like phil jackson say.Before they played cleavland and I knew they were gonna win.The only thing I didn’t want was a fight between magic and celtics my worst nightmare came true .I’m not a fan of this team,but I love how this two team play except pierce.Paul Pierce has become one of the biggest flopper and that is the Truth.

For all the talk about big men, hard fouls, and refs, game 6 will be decided tonight by the play of the point guards. Boston plays better under adversity and this playoff run has been fueled by the superb play of Rajon Rondon. I look forward to an intense game that will be decided not by refs, but by the brilliance of Rondo.
