Just Dwight?

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – With all this time off between their demolition of the Hawks in the conference semifinals and their date with either Cleveland or Boston in the Eastern Conference finals, the Orlando Magic had to do something.

So why not dinner and a movie with Superman himself, Dwight Howard?

It helps when Howard is starring in the movie, as he is in the basketball flick “Just Wright,” out this weekend.

Even Magic coach Stan Van Gundy joined in on the fun (above), which is as hilarious as anything. All these smiles and all this recreational fun and down time has overshadowed the fact that the Magic plowed through the competition this postseason in stunning fashion (8-0 and counting).

But let this be the first caution warning for the Magic and their faithful, including all 1.5 million (and counting) of Dwight’s Twitter followers, those that did and did not make the movie premiere.

Be careful with all this extra time.

The Cavaliers had a similar run through the conference semifinals last year before meeting up with the Magic in the conference finals and then struggled to match up, losing that series 4-2 despite having home court advantage.

The Cavaliers smashed the same team, the Hawks, in the conference semis last year, before coming apart against a much better and motivated Magic team in the next round.

The Magic will face a similar situation this time around, because they’ll be dealing with a much tougher and deeper Cavaliers or Celtics squad after destroying the Hawks in the conference semis.

Again, this is just a warning.

The Magic can’t rest on their rousing success in the recent past (below).

Not with so much at stake in the near future.

Think again big guy, magics are down 0-3 , where are they? bunch of ppl here talking abt regular season winning, orlando only won because of injuried boston had, boston wen fully healthy r unbeatable ;)
lets just bring out the broom on monday n wave goodbye to the magics :) they gunna get there ass handed to
    BOSTON 2010 CHAMPS

  2. Jerred@lvrz says:

Orlando is better this year then they were last year, they have better 3 point shooter this year to.There is no doubt in my mind that Orlando will have troubel beating the celtics or lakers, but in the end orlando will prevail over the celtics and will be a remach Lakers vs Magic and then that championship is owers for the takeing because the Lakers are weak this year.Thats just my opinion.

  3. Michael says:

This article is bogus, just plain ignorance. There is no such comparison between the cavs last season to the magic this season. The magic are a very deep and talented team who are all hungry to win it all. The cavs became complacent last postseason and did not have all the resources to be a championship contending team. They thought bringing in shaq this season would be a boost, and a near trade-deadline acquistion of jamison would help. Both trades did not pan out well at all. Shaq’s game is depleted and jamison’s intensity is not up to par with the rest of the team. The magic give it their all every single game and they show it. They were off after the bobcats series for awhile, and people are claiming that the hawks could be a problem for the magic because they may be rusty, and what did the magic do? they ran over the hawks, every single game. Upcoming matchup against the celtics will be similar, they will come out and fight. Cavs are a show boating team that don’t come up with plan B. Mike Brown’s playbook probably has “Give Lebron the Ball” as their only play. Once LeBron shows signs of vulnerablity, teams will take them out with ease. With that said, I believe the celtics will give magic a challange, because the celtics have the resources to stop the magic. The only problem is, will they be consistent throughout the series, and will they execute. If they did what they did in game 1 and 3 against the cavs, they wont stand a chance against the magic. The only thing that would slow down this well-prepared magic team is injury. So far their game has been near perfect. The magic are ready to make history. Vince Carter is ready to take home the hardware. magic 2010 nba champions.

  4. remsteal says:

Really BBAmp? What does Howard being (arguably) the best center in the league have anything to do with Orlando being supposedly better than Cleveland. This year LeBron is the best player in the league (that’s what MVP means right?) but the Cavs are still out of the playoffs. One person’s talent has nothing to do with a team’s success (D-Wade anyone?).

Also – Cleveland has had a better record than Orlando the past two years. Your claim that “It has been more than obvious that Orlando is a better team than the cavs this year and last” really makes wonder a few things.

  5. c's fan says:

Regular season wins matter not. Postseason=entirely new game. I respect the Magic, but don’t get overly disrespectful of the Celtics to bolster your opinions of the Magic. IF the Celtics lose, I will cheer for the Magic to beat LA, but let’s understand that it’s still an “IF”.

  11. Rondo? says:

Whats all this about magic not being able to guard rondo? you know he drives into the lane right? his not a shooter. Magic have the defensive player of the year who blocks most his shots through help defensive.

    • mj says:

get ready for howard to foul out of most games with celtics driving the lane

    • CELTICS says:

yeh he drives in, so where are the magics right now? =S
i cant hear you guys.. my bad u guys r ready to go home cuz celts are bringing the broom

  13. DRO says:

MAGIC…too much heart, talent, putting in of work, and you can just tell they love to play. Lots of Chemistry with this team. Everyones riding high, this our year. God bless! Lebron…If LeBron doesn’t show up no one will. He’s living the life, has got everyone following him. Growing out their hair like him (Mo Williams) rocking his shoes (Whole squad) and generally being too much a follower. LeBron is great and until he has someone to feed off of, the Cavs will always be second rate. But as a Magic fan, I admit he’s beast.

  14. sekou the magic team is better than the cavs team was and i remember that the cavs did not have a bench or a good supporting cast stop hateing on them cause the beat the bobcats and the hawks get of lebron james or kobe or k.g jock player

  15. SoWhat says:

And for the record MJ, im guessing you’re taking your name after Michael Jordan, which means you’re probably over 30 and by the way us Americans are going now in days, Out of shape. You’re just as ignorant as any other fan that thinks Lebron will take it all. But hey I understand your pain..as long as it’s taking Lebron to win a championship we’re all growing old and out of shape.

    • mj says:

      how wrong you are
      1) age – 22
      2) in great shape & work out on a regular basis, eat healthy and try to help others stay heallthy all the time
      3) love bb and am a true history buff – mj was & still is the best
      4) feel sorry for anyone out of shape – only means they don’t respect themselves – gotta love yourself first before you can really love others – old & out of shape is not a good reason for anyone

  16. and to the celtic fans we cant handle them go back to the season 3-1 and i dont want to hear about we did not have kg you had him and still lost

    • mj says:

what now? orlando will win the next four games? watchout for the broom!

    • CELTICS says:

      LOL regular season dont matter
celtics up 3-0, where are the magics? difference = KG’s back
magics suckk, need to go home with a nice broom

  17. i have been a magic fan every since we had shaq and i amstill a fan when t-mac was there and all bad season and the good ones dont hate on them cause they r good when they had a season when we won only 22 games you was laughing now we r back and ready for a championship and thats that

  18. SoWhat says:

MJ, How are you going to compare Michael Jordan to Dwight Howard? They played two different positions and had to different purposes in the game. Yeah, both wanted to win games and most importantly a championship, but michael jordan made assist and scored around and inside the paint. He passed the ball to his centers for big plays. Dwight howard is that Big play but he isn’t a point guard. His job isn’t to create plays and make game winning shots. No, im not Pro Dwight but I do respect his game and think he should of been highly considered for the MVP besides Lebron, whose been disappointing true fans with his non-reachable championship ring. Even if Lebron, or im sorry Cavs beat Boston ( because Lebron can’t obviously do it on his own) and they beat Magic, they Won’t beat Lakers. I think all you Lebron riders forgot about Kobe Bryant and the west. I’ll give Magic credit Again if they make it to the finals but they already proved their point making it last year. I think we all want to see Lebron fall to the Lakers feet: the ones who truely understand basketball and what a championship team is. But in the meantime, lets hope Lebron makes it past Boston and the Magic. P.S. The unfortunate part is, if Lebron doesn’t make it to the finals im sure it’ll all be because of his injured “elbow”. these sports spectators always have an excuse for the guy

    • mj says:

d howard will foul out of most upcoming games – he just can’t help it – celtics will make sure of that in the east finals
i do feel sorry for the big guy – it’s a good thing he has good & some great role players – he needs them

  19. lakers_champs says:

All u chumps need to know the LAKERS are the best team in the league…Magic will make the finals but get their asses whipped again..

  20. champ says:

first of all lebron is not a that sweet. its just that the referres cheat for him. they just give him too many calls so he could win a championship. also if lebron is so sweet how come he never won a championship. every great player should get at least one championship

  21. Omar says:

So MJ….By your rationale I guess Don Nelson, Chuck Daily, and George Karl are all jokes in the NBA community cause they’re not in great shape huh? Who are you Sara Jessica Parker? Is this Sex in the City, cause I thought we were talking basketball…Who the hell cares what a coach looks like and how the hell does that equate to coaches ability?! And as for your “what people want to see” argument…thats exactly the type of BS that has cost the NBA so much respect in the sporting community..This isn’t wrestling!!! Why should “what people want to see” have any bearing on the game at all?! This is exactly the type of garbage belief that spawns “superstar calls”, which is a cancer to the sport. In stead of trying to blow up the sport of fabricating a messiah, we should abolish that kind of garbage so that the game can be played in it’s pure form. Why do you think so many people would rather watch college now rather than pro ball? It’s because real sports fans don’t like the idea of “what the general public wants” to have any effect on the outcome of their team’s play…Your comments make me sick…

    • mj says:

omar are you stupid or just dumb? your comments show just how much you know about basketball – 0 too bad for you
keep that fantasy mentality and try watching some other sport if you’re so disgruntled with the nba
so sorry i made you sick, but you’ll keep getting sick with your ideas of what happens in the nba now & in the future – what is now always has been and will always be – truth
      tough luck for you

    • mj says:

  23. CELTICS says:

    I AGREEEE WITHHH MJ.
    THANK YOU :)

  24. Omar says:

I think the reason Magic fans are so upset is because writters like Sekou give the Magic and Dwight no respect. Maybe not in this aritcle, but in previous ones. Just ask this chump to repeat now what he said on his podcast, the one entitled “(not so) Superman” a little while ago. Writers like him are just trying so desperately to pin the “next MJ” tag on Lebron while overlooking the Magic and what they have accomplished. And if it seems like we’re a little insecure about it, well we have a pretty bitter history of franchise player leaving us because he thought he was “a big fish in a small pond.” Basically, use Magic fans would hate to see Dwight leave Orlando because he thinks he has to go to LA or something to get serious MVP considerations. Or that he has to ruin team chemistry and demand the ball all the time to satisfy these chump writers…A bit of a stretch, I know, but we just want our star to get the credit he deserves so that he’s happy and will stay put. But that won’t happen if these sorry media types keeping hyping up Lebron just because they want an MJ-type to take them back to the days when they were young (and maybe 40lbs lighter in this case…). Fact is, nobody in the league does what Dwight does, and just because he’s not willing to be a one-man offense like some players (look where it got Lebron) he gets punished bu not getting the recognition he dserves. But its ok, cause once the playoffs are over, and the confetti falls from the rafters, and the champaign bottles are popped…we’ll see who the real MVP is…

    • mj says:

duh, the real mvp was already announced – what planet do you live on?
you’re right – no one else in this league does what howard does – foul out of games alot

      • Omar says:

You know you talk all this trash yet you don’t give an example of a team or player that is currently more deserving or more likely to win a championship than the Dwight/Magic..are you embarrassed of your team, is that why you’re hiding behind the inarguable legacy of Michael Jordan?…You’re a grizzlies fan aren’t you? Why don’t you come back when you have a real team to argue for and stop avoiding the fact that any team in the NBA you can name is at the same level or well below the Magic and that real MVP candidates actually prove they’re worth in the post season, unlike Lechoke James.

      • mj says:

I’m a true bb fan and love all the games – not a true fan of any team, never have been – just want to see good matchups
I’m not crazy about orlando cuz they live and die by the 3’s and howard’s blocked shots are more goal tends. I’m from LA org, but have lived all over the country, but not a true Lakers fan although i do believe they are the team to beat this year.
MVP is for the regular season and James definitely deserved it this year, maybe not last year. Your dwight will never see MVP – he’s one dimentional & gets in foul trouble too often. Good bench sitter – ha!
Looking forward to celts/lakers finals matchup – definitely would be much better than last year. Be prepared tor your magic to die by their 3’s and howard’s fouls. They don’t deserve respect.

    • mj says:

so what now omar? orlando & d howard win 4 straight or the broom they used in the first 2 series they are giving it to the celtics?
or no comment cuz cat got your tongue?

      • CELTICS says:

HAHA yeh cat got his tongue man.
magic fans are going home tomorow.
the broom will b handed to magics tomorow.
        got there ass handed too

WHAT TOOK ‘MICHAEL’ SO LONG TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS? SUPPORTING CAST? COACH? HIS HUNGER? OTHER TEAMS FAULTERING?
DO YOU THINK ‘DWIGHT’ HAS WHAT MJ HAD WHEN HE WON??

  26. mj says:

I THOUGHT IT WAS A WELL WRITTEN AND INTERESTING IN-SIGHT INTO POSSIBLE SENARIOS THAT MAY HAPPEN.
WAIT TOO LONG – GET RUSTY – EVEN VAN GUNDY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE LENGTH OF TIME BETWEEN PLAYOFF GAMES.
SWEEP AWAY – GET TOO CONFIDENT – NOT LIKE IT HASN’T HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE NBA.
JUST REMEMBER SOME THINGS DON’T CHANGE – ONLY ORLANDO FANS WANT TO SEE THEIR TEAM IN THE FINALS AND DREAM OF A CHAMPIONSHIP (NOT ALOT OF NUMBERS THERE) .
MOST OF THE WORLD WOULD RATHER SEE CELTS/LAKES OR LEBRON/KOBE – THAT’S A BIG FACT THAT ORLANDO FANS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND CUZ THEY REALLY DON’T KNOW TRUE BB HISTORY – BUT THEY CAN KEEP DREAMING – LIKE SO MANY OTHER CITIES FANS.
I DO WISH THEM LUCK, BUT LUCK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS GAME.
AND ONE MORE THING – IF VAN GUNDY IS SO GREAT, WHY DOESN’T HE HAVE MORE DISCIPLINE ON HIMSELF AND LOSE SOME WEIGHT – HE’S BEEN THE JOKE OF THE NBA COACHS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. YOU WANT TO ACT THE PART, YOU BETTER LOOK LIKE THE PART. NOTHING WORSE THAN TRYING TO TEACH/COACH A BUNCH OF HEALTHY, WELL-MAINTAINED , STRONG , DISCIPLINED MEN IS LOOKING LIKE THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE. WOULD YOU TAKE A CLASS/COURSE ABOUT GETTING HEALTHY & STRONG FROM SOME FAT SLOB?????

  27. chichi says:

ayyy ima warriors fan but the magic are my 2nd team..Why do people continue to downplay how great the magic have been? Last year i picked them to win it all and I got laughed at, they wound up losing in the finals. I picked them again this year as well and was laughed at again and was told they are 1 hit wonders..? wahh? o well i guess people wont appreciate teams like the magic until(IF) lebron ever gets a ring

  28. Peter says:

LeBrons gonna do good no matter what. His team needs help still even after all the additions. You Cavs fans should worry about Boston before thinkin’ far ahead about them players facing the Magics. you all spitting images and thinking the picture too big. Best hope them Cavs murder the Boston ones if you Lebron fans wanna see them go far. FYI, shaq is a step behind Howard, can’t touch him.

  29. Adam says:

Why do you guys get so pissed off about this article? You’re right, the Magic of this year and the Cavs of last year can’t be compared as teams. The article is only comparing the similar situation the Magic are in now as to what happened last year with Cleveland. He’s not saying the Magic are in trouble, just that they need to be careful and not get too relaxed before the East Finals. The Cavs and Celtics are on a whole different skill level than the Hawks, so Orlando just needs to be ready, and I think they are ready for either of those teams. The East Finals is going to be a great series. And no one doubts the skill of the Magic, they are a great team. But Cleveland and Boston are also great teams so I don’t think you will see another 4-game sweep like in the first two rounds. As a Blazer fan I just hope to see the Magic beat down the Lakers this year.

  30. ISeekou says:

    Hey BBAmp,
I liked your post alot. Forget those clowns. It’s nice to see someone giving the opposing players some respect for being cool guys. Thumpsup!
    Cheers

  31. Omar says:

BBAmp, I tip my hat to you for being a good sports fan…As a die hard Magic fan I am obviously pleased with your compliments, but most of all I admire your ability to see these two teams for what they are, as I think rivalry between the Cavs and Magic is one of the most heated in the game today. Personally though, i can’t show the Cavs the same respect ou show the Magic. i respect Lebron and realize he is arguably the best player in the game today. But what I cannot respect is the fact that the Cavs continue to be a one-man team even though they now have legitimate talent on the team (not more than the Magic though). I think the fault of that is completely on Coach Brown’s shoulders. I will only say that if a coach like Stan Van Gundy or Phil Jackson would’ve had Lebron for 7 years they’d be on the verge of getting championship number 3. So it’s not Lebron’s fault necessarily, but I just don’t like the idea of one-man teams (which is why I have no respect for Miami and had no respect for the Lakers until they got Gasol). but anyway, I appreciate your classy fanaticism and apologize for Magic fans everywhere if you are getting patronized for that. That being said, GO MAGIC!!! BRING ON THE CELTS OR THE CAVS!! IT DONT MATTER!!! O-TOWN MAGIC 2010 WORLD CHAMPS!!!!

    • BigL16 says:

I personally don’t think that Cavs v. Magic is a legitimate rivalry like the Suns v. Spurs or Cavs v. Celtics but I agree, there’s no way that Lebron and the Cavs are gonna win by being a one-man team. I still don’t understand how people can think that Orlando can’t get it done? They’re the deepest team in the playoffs and obivously the best. They are at least two man deep in every position not to mention they create match-up problems for any team they face. The Magic are definately my favorite to win although as a Spurs/Celtics fan, I would love to see the big three plus one to lift that trophy up one last time. The one thing that bothers me the most, other than Orlando being so underrated, is how everyone has the Lakers in this pedestal. IMO the Lakers are overrated and I believe they have no chance against the Cavs, Orlando or Boston. First, they have no bench, then they have guys like Lamar Odom and Ron-Ron, who show up once in a while. Bynum is always injured at this time of the year so he’ll rarelly be a factor. Gasol is the only consistent one and Kobe is just getting old, although he’s been impressive some games. Whether they face Boston, suppose they win tonight or Orlando , they have no chance in stopping Rondo or Jameer Nelson. The Lakers got away with Westbrook and D-Will, but these two teams are far more talented and deeper than the injured-Jazz and the Thunder. Besides, they have more size than the other teams Lakers faced. Lakers got away with the championship last season but they aren’t winning it this season. However comes out of the East will take them out.

  32. dement says:

    (Cho)KING JAMES!!!

  33. DONCALL says:

Funny how BBAmp comes on here with 99% respect (A whole lot for a team rival) and many Magic fans immediately begin to bash him and Cleveland. Why are magic fans so angry. Is it because Van Gundy and your local media have convince you (and the team) that everyone thinks the Magic is a joke. Wake up call!!! Nobody takes Orlando Magic as a joke. Van Gundy does this to motivate the team and create emotion!

BTW I currently live in Cleveland but I’m moving back down south for the better weather and quality of living. However, I will stand up for Cleveland any day. Trust me you won’t walk around this city running your mouth. This is a very tough town and that is why year after year Cleveland sports fans are disappointed with the lack of toughness in our teams.

  34. MAGIC_FAN says:

First, to all of you chowder heads, worry about the Cavs tonight before you start up about the Magic. I will say it one more time: WE WERE WITHOUT JAMEER NELSON WHO WAS AVERAGING 17 POINTS A GAME, SELECTED AS AN ALL-STAR, PLAYING OUT OF HIS MIND BEFORE HE WENT DOWN TO INJURY. WE PICKED UP ALSTON WHO IS AVERAGE AT BEST AND STARTED A ROOKIE NEXT TO HIM WHEN WE PLAYED THE CELTICS AND THEY STILL PUNKED YOUR A$$ES. SO IT NEVER HAS BEEN, AND NEVER WILL BE A VALID EXCUSE TO ALWAYS SAY, “YEAH, BUT WE DIDN’T HAVE KG.” EXCUSES ARE FOR FANS OF TEAMS WHO RUB MONOSTAT 7 ON THEIR PROBLEM. ALSO, IT WOULD NOT HAVE MATTERED IF YOU HAD KG OR NOT – YOU STILL WOULD HAVE LOST THE SERIES. THE MAGIC SHOULD HAVE WON IT IN FIVE GAMES ANYWAYS. Plus, Perkins and Big Baby playing way over their heads – it more than made up for the absence of Mr. Distort-A-Face.

I mean geez, you guys are starting to sound like we should forfeit the rest of the season and just go ahead and hang another banner up in the rafters. I will tell you this, if you do get by the Cadaverliers, the Magic are sitting in the grass, waiting to pounce on your posteriors.

  35. Oreally? says:

This article just made me smile and laugh :) I mean was it really necessary to write an article on this subject? These players are proffessionals for crying out loud. Do you think Stan would go soft on these guys and not make sure that his team is prepared? The Magic are ready. They’ll meet the Celtics or Cavs for the ECF and then move forward to the Finals to face whoever. The Magic this year are a different team. Please do not make those comparisons to last year’s Cavs either. I expected something more from NBA.COM.

  36. Ross says:

Wonder what these “analyst” would be saying if the cavs started out 8-0 in the playoffs. Cant understand how so many people was saying they dont “Trust” the magic when they just made it to the finals last year, in the same breathe say they “Trust” the Cavs when this group has yet to make it there, seems a bit backwards to me. The Magic are clearly better than both the Cavs and the Celtics, i dont know why these “Analyst cant see that. They are the best defensive team left in the playoffs, they are probably the best offensively balanced team left as well. If the Cavs lose then they will have home court the rest of the way through as well. Dam maybe i should write a colunm! lol

  37. Shea23 says:

As a nets fan the magic have been the team I’ve followed in addition the last two years to keep my sanity. And when VC got traded their it was a welcome surprise. Im rooting for them and credit to Van Gundy I think this team is ready.

  38. Sekou Smith says:

Hey Mystic, obviously, you do have to score more points to win. And no one is bashing the Magic for stretching out a little bit. You just have to be careful this time of year with the breaks between series. What’s so wrong with mentioning that?

    • Mystic says:

Other than the fact that it’s been mentioned in interviews with SVG and the players in the past couple days, that they just went thru the very same thing between the Bobcats and Hawks series, and that any and everyone can readily remember what happened to the Cavs last year?

Well, besides that, nothing I suppose. The movie opening was a nice story; the complacency thing, mmm kinda bordering on the more-than-patently obvious. Just IMO!

Oh, and for the record, complacency didn’t do in the Cavs last year. They were thoroughly beaten by a vastly superior Magic team. 1 day off or 10 days off wouldn’t have changed that.

  39. CELTICS says:

Magics are a good team, but also boston got perkins to defend howard, i mean howard himself addmited to the media that perkins the only guy that can defend him well and thats because of his physicalness, rondo i dont think anyone on that team can handle, if LeQueen cant then i dont think noone on the magics can. KG just got healthier, so magics wont have this as easy as they think they would, still a good match-up after all celtics did take this magics team to game 7 last year without KG.

  40. ajay says:

As a magic fan i am confident that the magic has both the power and the willingness tro beat either team.remember that cavs are a one man team and the celts are tired and bruised.go magic.

  41. Mystic says:

  43. 407 Big South. FL's Finest City says:

I do believe the Magic need to be aware of what could happen if they start getting too complacent.

They deserve all the rest they’re getting, and it could work in their favor if they use all that time wisely.

They have to keep practicing, and keep trying to get even better (even though that seems kinda difficult given how good they currently are). But there’s always room for improvement.

    Go Magic. Go Orlando

  44. Zak says:

I’ve Been A Magic Fan since the drafting of Dwight Howard and I Knew from there that this team was going to go somewhere and that they would revolve around him. Theres no reason to say that us being well rested means we’re going to lose. If you remember last years Cavs was all about Lebron and he had no supporting cast but when you look at the magic . say that Dwights not having a good game we could still hurt you with 11 different guys.

    Go Magic !!

Me too.I can believe this article first.Cleavland play atlanta in 2008-2009 and they beat them in the regular season and in playoff and then they played a detroit piston very destroyed.Look at detroit they disnasty ended in 2007-2008.Fisrt of all who gave trouble to cavalier after they sweeped atlanta and cleavland.Orlando were no.3 so you believe they can be surprised this because cavalier have that bad luck.OH realley,if cleavland win the series agaisnt boston orlando will still be the underdog.Atlanta and Charlotte BOTH TEAM PUT A RECORD AGAINSTTWO team who have record of 8-7 against the boston celtics(who were sweep by atlanta 0-4 ) and the cleavland cavalier(Charlotte bobats who was THE ONLY TEAM TO DEFEAT THE CLEAVLAND CAVALIERS 3 TIMES)Orlando just destroyed the team who bugged so much cleavland and boston great diference for the 2008-2009 cavaliers 2 sweeps. And another thing the orlando sweeps was way cooler and the diferential points was way BIIIIGGGGGGEEEERR.

  46. East is weak that is why Magics are cruising, wait till they play the celtics in the ECF and then the LAKERS in the finals!

FIRST FIRST FRST GET YOURFACTS STRAIGHT BECAUSE MAGICS ALMOST SWEPT THE CAVZ 4-1 SOOOOO YOUR A WRITER FOR NBA CAN YOU DON HAVE YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. TSK TSK TSK
SECOND DONT YOU EVER COMPARE CAVZ ND THE MAGIS AGAIN. YOU OBVIOUSLY CANT WIN A CHAMP RELYNG ON ONEGUY (LEBRON/KOBE)DONT BE DUMB. WITH MAGICS THEY GO IN WITH THEIR WHOLE TEAMMMMMM SO WRITER COME CORRECT NEXT TME BETTER YET YOU SHOULD BE FIRED BECAUSE YOU PROBABLY DONT EVEN WATCH BALL.

  48. Marco says:

“The Magic will face a similar situation this time around, because they’ll be dealing with a much tougher and deeper Cavaliers or Celtics squad after destroying the Hawks in the conference semis.”

Honestly, I don’t see how any team in the NBA, much less the Cavaliers especially, are any deeper than the Magic. Speaking as a Lakers fan myself, I love our Top-7 guys (when Brown is playing well anyway), but it’s silly to think our set of reserves can match up with the Magic’s.

Also, it’s fine for them to be enjoying a little down time; they deserve that AND as much respect as the Lakers have gotten, considering they both made the finals last season (and I believe will be up for a rematch again this season).

  49. SekouSmithIsAnIdiot says:

This guy has no idea what he’s writing about, this year’s Magic is nothing like the Cavs of last year. The Cavs are a overconfident, arrogant team that relies heavily on Lebron to do everything. The Magic play as a team, starting with Howard and working it’s way through the bench all the way to Brandon Bass and Anthony Johnson. Next the 2009 Cavs had no answer for Dwight, Shard or Hedo, on top of that, they took every team for granted so they were never prepared for what was coming,.. They never stood a chance. The Magic are ready and they’re rested, if anything, the Celts and Cavs better prepare for a dog fight, because these Magic men won’t go down without leaving it all out there. Sekou Smith needs to be fired, all he can do is post about how Dwight isn’t elite and how Lebron is god, get a real job buddy, this one isn’t working out for ya.

    • Sheesh says:

LOL Damn dude, just cause he wrote one bad article and he’s not suckin Dwights balls he should be fired and “get a real job”? Take a breath man. I agree with everything else though, the Cavs rely too heavily on LeBron and whoever comes out of that series (Hopefully the Celtics) are gonna have one hell of a fight on their hands against the somehow-under-the-radar Magic.

  50. JHIV says:

I agree. I’ve been a Magic fan from the beginning. After the Magic swept the Bobcats, Stan Van Gundy didn’t let them slack, and he’s not going to let them slack after the Hawks. He’s the kind of guy that has looked at how the Cavs did last year, and he doesn’t want to go down like that. I definitely think that the Magic have a better chance at a Championship this year than last year. No team in the NBA has a winning record against the Magic this season, and they haven’t lost a game since April 2nd!!!

However!!! As all Magic fans are aware, they do have the reputation of starting games out strong and then losing them in the 4th quarter. I just hope that they don’t finish this years playoffs like that.

    MVP: Dwight Howard

    GO MAGIC!!!

    • CELTICS says:

next year for magics ..this year its CELTICS
howard was shut down, magics had no answer to rondo and the celtics
now its time to say goodbye. regular season dont matter . postseason= whole different game.

  51. Cotoguer says:

    GO Magic!!!!!

  52. Anthony says:

orlando and Los angeles will be playing for the championship this year. I think the cavs will lose the series against boston and boston has no one to defend D. Howard, Rajon rondo can be controlled by M. Pietrus and keep in mind the season series was 3 to 1 in favour of the orlando magic

    • Ben says:

I’m sorry, but, Rondo will run circles around Pietrus and all the other Magic guards. BTW, I’m not a Celtics fan. Go Lakers!

      • DWE says:

Pietrus is one of the best defenders in the NBA, he would have no problem defending rondo. but it will probably be nelson guarding him. They also have matt barnes, another elite defender. Magic is winning it all!!!

    • CELTICS says:

im sorry magics are done.. LMAOO all u magics fan go home now
the broom is coming out tomorow. noone cud handle rondo and howard
was basically shut down by perkins. no1 new that perkins can defend howard , but
howard even sed it himself that perkins the only guy that can defend him physically.
      GOODBYE MAGICS :)

  53. Kumicho Saito says:

I am forever and always will be a Magic fan. I admit, I only first saw the Magic play at the Finals last year, but I’m telling you, I love them from then onwards. The thing that I like most about the team is that they are very humble. They don’t brag about their wins, and they just have fun while playing the game. And about the team being complacent, I agree with Omar. Van Gundy doesn’t seem to me like someone who would let any of his team go slack. I mean, just listen to his voice, guys, he’s like Adolf Hitler (or at least a cute and coachy version of Hitler). Anyway, GO GO GO Magic!..I hope they will get the title this time around!!!

  54. LD says:

Like Eric Snow and Brent Barry said on NBAtv, time between series to get some mental rest away from basketball and recharge your batteries is invaluable and just what the doctor ordered. This article is another steaming pile of anti-Magic crap. No matter what the Magic do they can do no right. If any of the series would have gone to game 5 the article would then argue that they should have took care of business and got extra rest. No matter what happens and no matter how positive of something they or any other NBA team that doesn’t have LeQueen on it accomplishes people are going to write crappy articles that argue the contrary, but it’s all good cause a lot of us enjoy the laugh.

  55. Zo says:

Ahhhhhhhh I’m in that video!!! i’m one of the lucky peeps who got to sit in Dwights theater.

Anyways Stan is working these guys so hard. I’ve never seen a Magic team THIS ready to play. They want to win every single quarter. They have been treating every possession like its to win the game. EVEN IF THEY ARE UP 40!!! We all know stan does. The magic have really turned it on in the post season. This team is looking like it has the high chance to have an undefeated championship run. Very unlikely, but it can happen if they keep doing what they are doing and not get complacent.

    Go Magic

    They are ready

  56. Michael says:

So, because Orlando earned the right for some extra time off, they should be worried? What are they supposed to do? Sitting at the airport waiting to find out if they’re flying to Cleveland or waiting to see if they’re staying in Orlando?

Come on now, this is ridiculous. First of, the Magic aren’t the Cavs, they’re pretty well put together and don’t really rely on one player (LeElbow) to carry them (As shown in the first round of the playoffs against the Bobcats).

Second, Stan Van Gundy can coach circles around Mike Brown. For all we know, Mike Brown is just a figurehead and LeCry is the one calling all the plays, lord knows 99.9% of their offense and plays go through him anyways.

Third, wow just because Orlando beat the Hawks to with in an inch of their lives, and the Cavs beat them last year in the second as well has absolutely no meaning on anything this season, what a stupid comparison!

It’s stupid articles like these that don’t give Orlando any props, but doubt them because their competition wasn’t “strong”, Bobcats fine, I understand, but these are the same Hawks you fools were touting as “One of the big FOUR” in the East, instead of Cleveland, Boston and Orlando, in no particular order.

How about you write an article on how they’re having probably one of the best runs in NBA history, or maybe that we’re a deeper, better team than last year. How about that while all these morons write how Hedo was our to go guy, but is absolute trash this year, think that HE is the better option than Vince and we’re at a disadvantage. /rage.

    Ok I’m done, GO MAGIC!

  57. Sdm says:

agree with GC, I guess this is something a lot of people think when they look at this years playoff run : “oh no remember what happened to cleveland last year” , I mean common nba.com , this is a weak article without any decent arguments …

you can’t compare last years cavs with this years magic , not at all

  58. Anthony says:

Celtics are comming. the squad in row

  59. robert says:

cavs suck cant stand em hope they lose were not going to be denied this year go magic

  60. CavsRwack says:

I am a MAgic fan and I hate the Cavs witha passion…but I really enjoyed Lebron in game 5 as did all the Cavs fans loooooooooooool, ur team has never been talked about and it never will oh and lebron aleady played his last game in cleveland (cheap city) and will play his last game as a cav tonite. And cavs wont be talked about for another 40 years. I am out like LJames in game 5.

    • BBAmp says:

Hey man I was hoping the respect I tried to show would keep people like you from posting silly comments like this. Regardless I would like to tell you what’s what.

I am a Cavs fan. Cavs come first for me but I gotta look at the facts. Orlando is a great team with a great group of people. Consistent bench, great coach, and not to mention the most dominant center in the league. Between us fans I would like to wish you luck on orlando winning a championship. I mean no sarcasm. This is an honest wish for you cause I know what it’s like being on the losing end.

For the record I live in NYC and go to Cleveland regularly for school and I like both cities.

      • tata says:

The Cavs and Magic should combine to create an NBA dance team. Neither one of them deserves to win anything as long as they have clowns like LeBron and Dwight dancing on the sidelines like clowns. You will NEVER see an old film of MJ, Magic or Bird dancing like a fairy princess before, during or after a game. Joakim Noah had it right….LeBron is a b*tch and so is Dwight. No class.

      • LMVB says:

I can appreciate a dedicated fan like you who can at least see both sides. I guess we are just tired of the disrespect. lol Thanks for your post.

    • DWE says:

I am a magic fan too, but are you stupid? Cavs are talked about all the time for the past seven years, and they still will be talked about but for a different reason. Cause either lebron will leave and they will be talked about for being one of the really bad teams, or lebron will stay and it will just be the same.

      LETS GO MAGIC!!!!!

  61. Omar says:

As a Magic fan, I agree that there should be some concern with so much time off, especially given the opposition that awaits them in the next round, compared to what they faced previously. That being said, I think its unfair to compare them to last seasons Cavs. First of all, the Cavs cruised through the entire season, not just the playoffs, which definitely contributed to the over confidence factor. The Magic on the other hand, faced adversity early in the season and know exactly what they’re going up against considering they played both Boson and the Cavs in the playoffs last year. Also, last year it was unanimous in the media that the Cavs were going all the way, not the case with Orlando; plenty of people still doubt them…and they love that. Finally, and the biggest reason of them all, Magic have Stan Van Gundy, not chump bro..I mean coach Brown. You think Stan is going to let these guys get comfortable? You think Stan is going to let them think anything else other than this next series will be the hardest any of them have ever played? That’s the key my friend. The Magic will not let up no matter how much time off they get. Not on Stan’s watch….

  62. LMVB says:

What do the Magic have to do to get any respect? They had a long rest the last round and came in fighting. The secret of the Magic team is just that…the entire TEAM!. They have a deep bench and so much talent without throwing it your face every minute. Maybe if they were a cocky team, people would take more notice. that seems to be the way some “super stars” act out there. Undeafeated in the last 14 games, and look at the final scores. Are you guys kidding me? There are other teams besides Cleveland and Lakers. But it shows you that if the two stars from those teams are missing, they are struggling for points. NO BENCH. Give some respect to the rest of the league. There is a lot of talent out there.

  63. BBAmp says:

I am a cavs fan and hate the magic with a passion but it was really nice to see the magic players off the court hanging out and doing what they do for fun. What a great group of guys.

    • Steve says:

How could you possibly hate the Magic with a passion. There isn’t one unlikeable thing about them. I guess one could hate Matt Barnes, but other than that. Maybe you became a Cavs fan last year and only remember them losing to Orlando. I don’t know.

      • CavsRwack says:

Cavs r Wack… Orlando will win the championship this year. I been a magic fan since 1994. Honestly Orlandos team is to good this year the only other team is LA. LA and Magic Finals for sure.

      • BBAmp says:

yeah I remember the series last year but mostly it’s from this year – orlando’s 3’s are so deadly and with Howard at center its just unstoppable. It kind of drives you crazy when you are on the losing end.

What I hope everyone got from my message is that even though I am a cavs fan and cavs come first for me I am glad that the magic are a great group of guys that everyone (especially orlando fans) likes.

The cavs performance was terrible against boston and we will see how it closes out tonight.

It has been more than obvious that Orlando is a better team than the cavs this year and last and denying that would be like saying DHoward isn’t the most dominant center in the league and who would be dumb enough to say that?

  64. GC says:

Really? I expected an article like this on other websites but not NBA.com. I am really disapponted.

    • Baller21 says:

      You’re all right !!!

as we speak the C’s have done it … cavs out and Magic and Celtics are gonna be a hell of a series both team deserves each other, both strive in using the bench to win games and most importantly shares the ball with every player on the court.

Goodluck to both of you may the best team wins and goodluck as u face the Lakers on the finals
