Draft Tiebreakers/Lottery odds

Draft tiebreakers were among the activities that took place at today’s Board of Governors meeting in New York. The 2010 NBA Draft comes to you from The WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden on June 24.

Randon drawing results:

  • Utah (53-29) won a tiebreaker with Atlanta & Denver; Atlanta won a tiebreaker with Denver
  • Boston (50-32) won a tiebreaker with San Antonio, Oklahoma City & Portland; San Antonio won a tiebreaker with OKC & Portland; Oklahoma City won a tiebreaker with Portland
  • Memphis (40-42) won a tiebreaker with Toronto
  • The Los Angeles Clippers (29-53) won a tiebreaker with New York
  • Philadelphia (27-55) won a tiebreaker with Detroit
  • Golden State (26-56) won a tiebreaker with Washington

As for the May 18 lottery, remember it’s only for the first three picks. The rest of the lottery teams (4-14) select in inverse order of their records. The list below includes the lottery odds for those first 14 not fortunate enough to be playing this weekend. Example: New Jersey has a 25% chance at the top pick (250 out of 1,000), while No. 14 Houston is at 0.5% (5 of 1,000). The teams from No. 15 on select in that order:

  1. Your article says that Houston has a 5% chance of getting the top pick, but that’s incorrect. 5/1,000 = 0.5%
